happy new year. L’Shana Tovah. As I was born around this time I’ve always equated ‘New Year’ w/ the beginning of autumnal vibes instead of Jan 1. We are all experiencing year of weird covid’ celebrations rubbing up against our innately social natures. Even if you are a natural introvert & secretly having a solo rave that the world is finally closer to your mode-you cannot deny that humans are inherently social. We are not special in this way, all animals have their own form of physical social networking (including the recently revealed single cell bacteria, wha? parties be like microbial!) We honor this nature by celebrations, rituals & festivities. This year we will all experience different kind of birthdays/ holidays for us all, as this covid-cooked world ain’t finished in 12 months. Approaching my bday I had an intense longing to taste my mom Deborah’s aka Bubbie’s famous Poppyseed Cake w Custard filling & Cream Cheese icing under my candles. The cake is dense, moist and quite famous for celebrations in our hometown community. Im sure the potency of craving was connected to the need for such comfort and tradition in such an unknown, unstable moment in history. I quickly laughed & shushed my lil’ self -it would be difficult to make as it required 3 cake pans & a double boiler. (sung to the tune of Becks 3 turntables & a microphone) I didn’t even say the wish outloud. Sometimes silent simple dreams travel through the ether. Unbeknownst to me, my beloved Nicho had covertly requested this recipe + made it with Bubbie phone-coaching after I’d gone to bed. When he presented it to me I wept sumptuous tears as if I was okay with crying. Then we had the most complete Rosh Hashana meal & ritual I’ve ever had but there was a complete dearth of challah in the area. No worries, mate, super-Debs rolled up her sleeves w/ a complete lack of baking experience & made this stunning braid on the second slide. This moment, just a poppyseed on the timeline of humanity will pass-but our growth during these months will be immeasurable. In the meantime I’ve got a great pod to soften my evolution. L E M O N 🍋 P A S T E I’ve been skipping that cleaning aisle of the supermarket for a long time now. 😷 With a market saturated in products, it’s hard to know where to begin if you are thinking of culling the toxicity. We have been taught to believe we need a cupboard full of products for every area of the house! When actually we only need a few staple basic ingredients ☀️ I make this for my weekly bathroom clean. Zero waste as I just make what I need and it can be stored in a glass jar if you’ve made extra. All the things to love 🌱Chemical free 🌱Safe for my daughter to handle and make herself 🌱Totally safe scent that also purifies the air 🌱You don’t have to open all the windows & hold your breath when you clean 🌱Lemon essential oil is a natural germ killing agent and degreaser Just 💁🏻♀️ Grab a glass bowl Pour in some bicarb soda Add some vinegar little by little and mix to make a nice paste Too runny? Add more bicarb. Too dry? Add more vinegar! Some like to make more of a dry mix scrub. I prefer the paste consistency. 🍋Optional if you have it - Lemon essential oil. Spent 1/3 of the year with my mini man but it felt like I have just given birth to him yesterday. Somehow, baby Cayler seems to be an easier baby. He does not fuss and only wakes up for 1-2 feeds throughout the night. He loves cuddling and listen to Mummy’s singing. He looks extremely adorable when he laughs with his mouth open. He’s so unique and special in my heart. Este momento me ensinou algo que eu até já sabia, mas ao sentir na prática fez ainda mais sentido. O que temos de mais precioso é o tempo. O tempo de se dedicar, esperar e viver. . Este tempo me ensinou que a vida deve ser vivida no hoje, no agora. Sonhos são importantes e nos move, mas precisamos dar espaço para que eles aconteçam sejam vividos intensamente. Now he has a cough that sounds like his usual cough he gets if he gets sick, but of course I freak out & would be suspicious if I were to hear a person with this cough cuz these crazy times we are in right now can make a germaphobe lose her mind 🤯 Ill be monitoring him & treating him like hes a health threat to my octogenarian parents who love to dote on their only grandbaby... We are at Andromeda Strain level contagion containment practices & only took our masks off for this quick pic... Can you tell we are holding our breath?! LMAO ✌🏽😷🤜🏽💥🤛🏼😷🤙🏽 Some things I was thinking about for this statewide school closure: 👉🏽JJ is gonna work at a proper desk that includes space for the laptop, his books and all his school supplies. 👉🏽We are sticking to a regular schedule. But our recess time and lunchtime will mean walks with our pup, Eva & maybe some park time after a good hearty meal. 👉🏽We are dressing up as if we are leaving the house. 👉🏽 Keeping our sleep schedule so he can be fresh for class every day. 👉🏽Im gonna spend my time KonMari-ing the heck outta our home, anyone else?! 👉🏽Ill also be running, practicing yoga, meditating, taking online fitness classes from home (my gym closed too=smart move💪🏽) 👉🏽Using Libby, Hoopla & Overdrive to make the absolute most of my LVCCLD library card to check out audiobooks, ebooks, movies & music. 👉🏽Sharing information and resources as we always have - #ThankYou, mamas for providing so much of what I share. Do you ever wonder if you are cut out to be the kind of mother you want your children to have? Do you tell yourself at the end of the day if only I could yell less, decrease the feeling of exhaustion, not be so forgetful, have more time in a day, or get rid of the clutter and chaos...etc______you fill in the blank? If so, let me tell you first you are normal and your are not alone! ⠀ You ARE however probably experiencing a level of burnout! Burnout has as undeniably increased since the pandemic struck earth, but even before COVID-19, parents have been experiencing burnout for years due to workplace stress but also from general life and home stressors. ⠀ I know for a FACT I have experienced long periods of burnout before. Even now, knowing more about how to easily identify it, I still experience varying levels of burnout. I am, however, more equipped to manage it. ⠀ ➡️check in with yourself- ask yourself what outcome you REALLY want and use positive language around what you desire. Ex. Instead of saying...I want to decrease exhaustion, say...I want to feel energized. I want to have more time in my day- say...I will learn to manage my time better. ⠀ ➡️practice self care- get deep and ask your self where you need the MOST attention. Is it mind, body, or soul? Then create a self care routine around your biggest need. Start there before incorporating more self care activities. ⠀ ➡️Be ok asking for help! If you are giving all the time, where have you created space to give to yourself? Create that space by asking for help. If you have family or friends close by- ask if they can lend a hand. If you have a spouse- be vocal and honest about how you have been feeling and create a plan together that offers you some relief! Do not sugar coat it, be honest! If you are both burnt out (hello dual income household with multiple kids during a pandemic)- trade off space and time for you each to fulfill your own needs. ⠀ ➡️prioritize rest- this could be part of your self care, but it deserves an extra shout out! If you aren’t sleeping because (well motherhood) do everything to listen to your body and at least REST your eyes! #momburnout #burnout #selfcareformoms #positivevibes - @jennifero1 on Instagram

I’d like to file a formal complaint against every mom who warned me about the newborn stage but not the toddler stage. MY GOD. I love this little bear more than life itself, but we are in full-on toddler mode and it is ROUGH. We want to do everything ourselves but can’t. We have so much we want to say but can’t. We have big emotions we need to work through but can’t. I feel grateful that I have my background as a pediatric therapist because I’d like to think I know a few tips and tricks, but it still wears on you to hear the screaming. So much screaming. I think some of Charlie’s frustration is happening because he’s a smart little dude whose body hasn’t caught up to his brain (does every parent think this?), and I try to keep that in mind. It’s still tough though. So to all toddler parents out there- I see you.
