Не только щербатой улыбкой, расшатанной нервной системой и привычкой укачивать в супермаркете и без того мирно покоющиеся в тележке бананы и виноград...😅🍌 ⠀ Но и еще кучу всяких привычек, от которых теперь избавиться почти невозможно.... ⠀ Такой , как , например , резко вскакивать среди ночи от малейшего шума в полной боевой готовности принести водички, вытереть попу и померить температуру....🌡 До рождения детей меня среди ночи мог разбудить разве что пожарный кран.... ⠀ Суперспособность пить чай одной рукой, красится другой и паралельно следить косящимся левым глазом не сбежала ли каша...🍚 ⠀ А еще мыться за 7 минут, поднимать упавшие предметы пальцами ног и одеваться порой быстрее выпускника суворовского училища...😁 ⠀ В общем, дети - опреденно цветы жизни. Final day with this little poppet before P2! 😥 Summer 2020, a little different than we envisaged. No planes or passports but thankfully still lots of beach time. Ottilie lost her first tooth, cut her own hair, and fashioned several crop tops that I’m not sure are age appropriate. Watched far too much tv, eaten more sweets than would normally be allowed, stayed up waaayyyy too late. She hasn’t learned to read, has probably forgotten how to write, but can navigate herself around Netflix and my phone like a pro, which lets face it, are pretty handy life skills. One thing we *have* nailed are cuddles. Autumn’s officially arriving on Tuesday, what was or will be your last #summer plans before it comes to an end? Summer wasn’t quite like our usual summer because of the inevitable virus and keeping Baby E safe, hopefully we won’t be locked in during Autumn too! This was Baby E’s first time camping and he loved it! It’s a pretty rare moment for Paxton to show interest in Cooper! He’s usually just not that into him... but today he asked me if he could pat him. So what did I say?… “Absolutely!! As long as Cooper wants a pat!” Rather than approaching our dogs to pat them- I always teach children to call the dog over to you for a pat. If they don’t come, they don’t want to be patted so we leave them alone. Blow them a kiss instead if the child wants. If they come when you call, teach your child where your dog likes to be patted and to use one hand to pat. Two hands can be too rough or make your dog feel like their space is being invaded. Then teach your child the “pat, pat, pause” - Gently and slowly, pat twice, lift your hand up- if the dog doesn’t want more, they might walk away, shake off, yawn or turn their head, if they do want more, you’ll know as they’ll look at you, nuzzle their head into you or push their body into you, and in that case you can give them a little more. This is all about giving our dogs choices and not forcing interactions on them that they are not comfortable with. It will help build the bond and relationship between your child and dog. Make sure to tell your child why you’re doing what you’re doing and explain it to them as you go so they can learn to understand your dogs body language too. И это особенное и совершенно уникальное лето 2020 года подошло к концу. ⠀ На него было великое множество планов, классных проектов, красивых пар, но мир диктовал свои правила. ⠀ Это лето было для меня самым настоящим, когда можно было остановиться, посмотреть вокруг и насладиться красотой и общением с родными и близкими, или внезапно рвануть куда-то на выходные, решив все за пару часов. И главное - без постоянных звонков, писем, сообщений и мыслей о работе, которая настолько всегда заполняла все летние месяцы, что времени на отдых и посторонние размышления не было от слова «совсем». ⠀ Но, вместе с тем, я очень скучала по тому летнему ритму, к которому уже привыкла, по тем эмоциям, которые нам дарил каждый проект, каждая пара❤️. Да, что скрывать, скучала по сумасшедшему расписанию, бессонным ночам, вечному бегу и будням wedding planner- а, как бы странно это не звучало. Так бывает, когда любишь то, что делаешь. ⠀ Очень хочется свободы. Свободы передвижения, общения и выбора. Без переживаний и волнений. We took a trip to the @sussexcountysunflowermaze and had so much fun! There’s a fun free scavenger hunt to do as you meander through the maze. All of the maze connects so there’s no worry of getting lost (perfect if you have littles!). We got tons of great photos! (I’ll have to share more later) The pathways are wide to aid in distancing from other guests which was great! Voor wie is de voedselbos training in oktober? Je hebt het vast al eens voorbij zien komen in mijn stories of in mijn feed. In oktober geef ik een voedselbostraining, op een fantastische locatie in zeeland, met prive chef die allerlei lekkere dingetjes voor ons maakt tijdens de training. Ideaal is als je een grotere tuin hebt, een strook van 8 bij 8 meter vind ik zelf ideaal om mee te starten. Maar! Ik krijg het altijd voor elkaar om veel fruitbomen op een kleine locatie te plaatsen, heb je een kleinere tuin dan ben je ook zeker welkom. Mensen met een balkon word heel lastig, ik zal het je niet verbieden want je kunt ook op een volkstuin perceel een voedselbos starten. Je hebt een tuin op het zuiden of zuid westen(dan kun je meer variatie plaatsen) of je krijgt minimaal 6 uur per dag zon in je tuin. Ga je verhuizen? Ik leer je hoe je je bos kunt verplaatsen Je hebt totaal geen plantenkennis nodig, wel een voor liefde voor lekker eten. Je hebt altijd al meer fruit uit eigen tuin willen hebben (een bakje frambozen voor 3,50? Ik dacht het niet) maar je hebt geen idee of dit in je tuin kan Of je hebt al fruit bomen en struiken, maar niets lijkt het echt goed te doen. Je wil het liefst zoveel mogelijk onbespoten producten eten Je wil een onderhoudsvriendelijke tuin Je vind het geweldig om heel veel te leren over eetbare tuinen Je hebt echt een stappenplan nodig Wil jij er dolgraag bij zijn? Before I became a mom, when a parent told me they didn’t want to get sunglasses for their child because they wouldn’t wear them, I kind of thought - well who is the adult here? I’ve been putting off writing this post for sometime.. Trying to organize my thoughts and feelings, especially after this monumental year has been very difficult, especially with the passing of my father and the reality that my family structure is about to change. My husband, my boy and I are moving to New Zealand in a month, a decision that was made Pre-Covid but one that we were going to take our time with. With all that’s happened this year we decided to fast track it and whilst I’ve been looking so forward to a new start, a new life, as our departure date nears this excitement is still growing but simultaneously with it is a sense of mourning. Feels like ‘mourning’ has become the keyword search for 2020... a mourning of life before Covid, of family members who were lost to the virus, of friendships that waned, of businesses and of livelihoods for so many. It would be remiss of me however to not acknowledge the gains ... through this time, this community has been such a source of comfort and inspiration too. I’ve made new connections and possibly friends through this platform. My social justice fire has been ignited in ways I couldn’t have imagined possible, my creativity feels abundant and I’ve been so inspired by so many of you... especially the mothers who’ve been hustling hard, the ones who have been pregnant in isolation, who’ve birthed during unprecedented times who’ve kept their children alive and well during a global pandemic, and those who’ve had to work from home and do all the things. I am you and you are me and the sharing of all of these experiences has touched me profoundly. I never thought I’d ever leave this insanely complex and painfully beautiful place and it’s people, and get quite irked when some refer to it as immigration because that word seems so 80’s and final. Because in its immensity, the world is actually quite small in no small part thanks to the digital realm and for this reason the New Normal will continue as is. Do you ever wonder if you are cut out to be the kind of mother you want your children to have? Do you tell yourself at the end of the day if only I could yell less, decrease the feeling of exhaustion, not be so forgetful, have more time in a day, or get rid of the clutter and chaos...etc______you fill in the blank? If so, let me tell you first you are normal and your are not alone! ⠀ You ARE however probably experiencing a level of burnout! Burnout has as undeniably increased since the pandemic struck earth, but even before COVID-19, parents have been experiencing burnout for years due to workplace stress but also from general life and home stressors. ⠀ I know for a FACT I have experienced long periods of burnout before. Even now, knowing more about how to easily identify it, I still experience varying levels of burnout. I am, however, more equipped to manage it. ⠀ ➡️check in with yourself- ask yourself what outcome you REALLY want and use positive language around what you desire. Ex. Instead of saying...I want to decrease exhaustion, say...I want to feel energized. I want to have more time in my day- say...I will learn to manage my time better. ⠀ ➡️practice self care- get deep and ask your self where you need the MOST attention. Is it mind, body, or soul? Then create a self care routine around your biggest need. Start there before incorporating more self care activities. ⠀ ➡️Be ok asking for help! If you are giving all the time, where have you created space to give to yourself? Create that space by asking for help. If you have family or friends close by- ask if they can lend a hand. If you have a spouse- be vocal and honest about how you have been feeling and create a plan together that offers you some relief! Do not sugar coat it, be honest! If you are both burnt out (hello dual income household with multiple kids during a pandemic)- trade off space and time for you each to fulfill your own needs. ⠀ ➡️prioritize rest- this could be part of your self care, but it deserves an extra shout out! I’d like to file a formal complaint against every mom who warned me about the newborn stage but not the toddler stage. MY GOD. I love this little bear more than life itself, but we are in full-on toddler mode and it is ROUGH. We want to do everything ourselves but can’t. We have so much we want to say but can’t. We have big emotions we need to work through but can’t. I feel grateful that I have my background as a pediatric therapist because I’d like to think I know a few tips and tricks, but it still wears on you to hear the screaming. So much screaming. I think some of Charlie’s frustration is happening because he’s a smart little dude whose body hasn’t caught up to his brain (does every parent think this?), and I try to keep that in mind. It’s still tough though. So to all toddler parents out there- I see you. I love the sun ☀️ 🥰 And no, I don’t hide out in the darkness 😝 It is one of my guilty pleasures. BUT, I enjoy it safely with these habits: 👉🏻 Sunscreen applied on all exposed skin. @aadskin1 recommends SPF 30 or higher, but I use the higher numbers. 👉🏻 Tinted sunscreen is great for faces if you’re fighting melasma or other pigmentary issues. 👉🏻 Wide brimmed hats to provide extra protection to face, ears, scalp, and neck. 👉🏻 Sunglasses with UVA/UVB protection for eyes. 👉🏻 Sun protective UPF clothing such as rash guards or long sleeve swimsuits are fail proof. The longer I mother my children, the more I am in awe of how they view their bodies. In short: they love them. My little people will joyfully tell me what they like about themselves.
