If you are interested, please drop by and share around! . * A SYMPHONY OF SHADOW . * Jul to Oct 2020 * Why 50 Coffee * Shop E, G/F, Fu Fai Commercial Centre, 27 Hillier St, Sheung Wan . * Shapes and lines are the building blocks of our city. It may seem repetitive alone, but when light and shadow meets geometry, it adds a third dimension. As a musician, Hong Kong Cultural Center has a special place in my heart. I have always been fascinated by the geometry around the venue. While it was criticised for its dull design, the slanting pillars allow light to shine into the gallery. In this series, I used high contrast monochrome to capture the light and shadow cast by the architecture. I also included life as an element to illustrate how people interact with this public space. I hope to share with you my interpretation of this controversial piece of architecture and life around. - @thomasthtc on Instagram

FUCK!!!! De School is no more... It makes me mad and very very sad... Ive had the most memorable nights here. De School became an actual school for me, where during its first years I played as Makam in the basement. Being a home to a distinctly unique atmosphere, an ambiance we havent seen before in The Netherlands. It was intimate, free, tuff, raw and obviously an abundance of sexiness. I immediately noticed that this space would allow me to experiment and venture into new musical realms, do crazy things, which resulted in even more crazier nights... After some years I did my first TALISMANN dj set, something Ive never done before... De School, and people like Luc, gave me their trust, so I dared to go even deeper within my experimentations. Perfecting my techniques and experience, which became the foundation for a number of absolutely legendary nights. Its hard to explain for me, I felt completely connected with the audience, we were all one. The energy turned into a flow, where I didnt need to think about what track I would play next, it just happened. It was so open and free, that it really shaped the way in how I wanted to express TALISMANN. A blind trust emerged, where I could switch the BPM from 160 to 130 in a single track and back again, infusing moments where there was no beat at all... moments where people could rest a bit and let the magic of the moment deeply sink in. Maybe not everyone understood what I was doing, but many of them did and I want to really thank you all if youre reading this. Ive seen many clubs around the globe, but this one truly was a gem. Cindy George and Elise Zilius’s ARC 409 project “Slow Urbanism” is an antithesis to the proposed rapid development of Xiong’an, an unbuilt hyper-technologically advanced city, the waste-to-energy power plant is transformed into a sensory public park, preserving the initially proposed green conditions of the site in the city plan. By stripping the plant of its shell and exhibiting the mechanical components, the plant becomes an icon for the city as a symbol of the green ideals of the city. The material products from the waste-to-energy plant as a tangible trace of the process can become integrated with the experience of the park and the temporal pavilions within the light frame above. Together with the established visitor path, users are connected to the byproducts through multiple means of engagement, educating them on the waste-to-energy process and the city’s sustainability initiatives. 2020 A+Award Winners Gallery: Coffee Production Plant - Meama by @khmaladze_architects, Popular Winner in the Low Rise (1-4 Floors) Office Category, Jury and Popular Winner in the Architecture +Concrete category, and Jury and Popular Winner in the Office Interiors (25k sqft) category. . Given the prominent location, the city required a building that would escape the regular factory appearance, and the clients intention was to create a strong visual identity for the newly created coffee brand. The program required spaces that would fit both, coffee production plant with its facilities and office space which would provide variety of work space arrangements, meetings and socializing areas, both indoors and outdoors. Additionally, public areas which would include coffee tasting cafe with small coffee exhibits. . As a response, a regular, box‐like volume of a production plant required to serve the buildings primary purpose adjusts to program components by wrapping around them. It stays high where necessary to fit production equipment and lowers where possible. Same with office, the building shell wraps around work, meeting and rest spaces arranged on floors suspended on various levels. The three atriums as the light wells, and numerous skylights bring daylight to the work and shared spaces below. The atriums are filled with plants to form small green outdoor spaces directly visible from all indoor areas. . The 3,680 sqm green roof acts as an additional thermal barrier to the roof insulation. The roof is intended to grow vegetation found around the site with wild grasses and plants, to blend with the context and require less maintenance. . Esse trabalho por ser o processo de fechamento que integra os conhecimentos obtidos durante o curso, me estimulou a desenvolver a temática que envolvesse para além do projeto arquitetônico em si. Nele eu trouxe a necessidade de compreender a cidade para a melhor escolha de implantação do projeto, medidas para facilitar o acesso de todos os usuários ao equipamento, a integração e valorização do entorno em que ele está inserido, além de criar um projeto que proporcionasse um conjunto de atividades com elementos arquitetônicos específicos para cada uso. Para que todo o conjunto adotado estimulasse o uso e a integração social. Essa temática foi escolhida pois consegui envolver uma série de questionamentos que me motivam e acredito a respeito de construção social, valorização cultural... dentre tantos temas interligados. The brief was for a Korean restaurant in a high end dining precinct, with a series of functional layers that would change through the day. After our research trip (see previous post) we established that Korea is a modern, forward looking nation with a rich history and culture that surfaces in various art forms, and also in how food is prepared and shared. We created a sleek space, shaped by a minimum number of imposing volumes, each having a function carved or extruded out of it. The front area houses the pick up and takeaway counter, with a long communal table connecting with the back area. The barbecue area was conceived as a gathering spot, a bit like a mundane version of a ceremonial altar. A low waffle slab conceals the extraction and lighting, and the seating consists of a series of solid timber beams resting on a concrete base. A large seating counter sits between the gigantic, exposed concrete columns and faces the open kitchen. A white banner hovers over the bench and provides a source of light, whilst acting as a screen for projectors that cast both traditional Korean dramas and live feeds from the plating area.
