When most people hear the word โdetox,โ they think of cleaning up their diet, but another great way to rid your body of toxins is through exercise, especially yoga. Yogi @seanecorn recommends full-body and repetitive movements (like a series of sun salutations) along with deep breathing to warm up the body. After that, specific poses like the twisting triangle can support the process of detoxification more efficiently and effectively. โ โ Twisting Triangle How-Toโ Phase One:โ 1. Starting with both feet pointing straight ahead, take a big step forward with your right foot and separate feet to hip width for balance. Turn your left foot outward to about 45 degrees.โ 2. Rotate your torso to square your hips to the front of the mat.โ 3. Inhale deeply, then exhale and fold forward over your right leg. Bend your right knee slightly. Use a yoga block for support.โ 4. Place your right hand low on your right hip or into the crease between your hip and thigh. Keeping the right knee bent, gently pull back your right hip. Your back should be flat.โ 5. Press the outside edge of your left foot into the ground, lifting the arch. This creates a strong base and will protect your ankle and knee.โ 6. Press the bone of your right big toe into the ground to create a strong foundation.โ โ Phase Two:โ 1. Straighten your right knee, if possible, and press down into your feet. Lengthen your spine forward.โ 2. Rotate your right ribcage upward toward the ceiling, keeping your hips aligned.โ 3. Raise your right arm up toward the ceiling, stacking your shoulders if possible. Press down into your left hand and reach up through your right hand.โ 4. Turn your head to look up. If this hurts your neck, look sideways or down.โ 5. Take five to 10 deep breaths through your nose. When complete, repeat on left side. To switch sides, look down and place your hands on the floor. Bend your right knee and come up as you inhale. ๐คธ๐ผโโ๏ธWorking on your SPLITS?!๐คธ๐ผโโ๏ธโฃ โฃ Do these poses from @maryochsner to prep your body for the flexibility and strength needed to get into this pose: โฃ โฃ ๐ธDEEP LUNGE + HALF SPLIT: Start by holding each pose for 5-10 breaths, then flowing between the two posesโฃ โฃ ๐ธPYRAMID: This pose is great for increasing hamstring flexibility. Try to keep the hips square and use blocks if you need.โฃ โฃ ๐ธLUNGE WIDE PYRAMID: Start in a lunge and straighten up into a wide pyramid. Try to lift the front toes up and keep the back heel lifted.โฃ โฃ ๐ธFORWARD FOLD + HALFWAY LIFT: You can have a bend in the knees here if you need it, but the idea is to just work on your hamstring and low back flexibilityโฃ .โฃ ๐ธSPLITS PRACTICE!
