Эльбрус. Я никогда не думал, что такое бывает. Вот сижу на 3500 м высоты: тишь и благодать. Это другая жизнь и другой мир. Я мечтал и думал, хотелось вернуться в детство, вот и сходил поговорил с горами и ледниками. Увидел мощь Эльбруса. Поднялся и умер...от приятной усталости. Ночью вылез из палатки и долго фотографировал глазами звезды, чтобы эта картинка осталось в памяти . Осмысление и переосмысление...наедине с собой . Все всегда до мелочей, так было и раньше. Пока сидел и смотрел на ледник пришла лиса. Посмотрела и ушла восвояси. Поймал адреналин. Залез выше, хотел до приюта 11, а вот до скал Пастухова не смог, снаряжения не было. Ледник Азау . Вот это мощь и махина. Какой это кайф: пить талую воду с ледника и собирать травы, которые ты знаешь и заварить из них чай, готовить еду. Быть без связи несколько суток. Слушать шум водопада. Смотреть на звезды и думать-думать-думать, просто отключиться . Послушать шум ветра . Да, это другая жизнь . Я счастлив. - My girlfriend beat cervical and ovarian cancer recently so last year she organised a trip to Mount Everest, Base Camp for charity. We raised a combined total of $18,000 and made it there after a nine day trek!
When @quentinclimbing proposed we delay our flight out of East Creek by two days so we could climb All Along The Watchtower I knew the answer had to be yes, but I knew it was going to hurt. All Along The Watchtower *** ED2 5.12- / 5.11 C2 (1-2 Biv) 30 - 34 Pitches (GUIDEBOOK) If anyone else had asked me, I would have listened to reason and said no. I was really fucking tired. We had flown in six days earlier and it had been pretty non-stop. The day after we arrived, Adam Campbell and I climbed Beckey Chouinard on the South Howser and that is a story of its own, but one Ill tell at a later date! After Becky C, we had a rest / reset day and got ready to shoot a short film piece & photos on Solitary Confinement - a long day of climbing, rigging and filming! Next day we packed up and got ready for a night on the Portaledges, where we would spend some time with Quentin on his project. Jugging, Hauling and barely sleeping on a ledge somehow felt like a rest day at this point. We spent the day up on the ledge, belaying Quentin G LR and shooting film and photos of his progress on the crux pitch. Adam and I headed down around 4:30, just in time to avoid an epic lightning storm, which Quentin endured on the portaledge strapped to the headwall of the minaret - that is also another wild tale, and Quentins to tell. So all in all, I was bagged, Minimal sleep, hands were frozen and thawed so many times all the skin had cracked and skin raw. Laughable amount of sleep....but again, I knew the answer had to be yes. With alarms set for 2:30AM - Quentin and I woke up and charged some breakfast, too much water and left camp a 3:30AM Nailing our daylight/route finding strategy, we did the raps and glacier approach in the last of the mornings light and started simul-climbing the lower headwall just as you wanted to turn off headlamps. The lower Headwall went quite fast, the only factor slowing us down being some rockfall from a party above (They started the day before), which changed our belay positions a little and shortened some simul blocks. @arcteryx - continued in comments - @johnpricephotography on Instagram

Himalaya 05: basecamp We were here. In the zone. Among the mountains. We made it to basecamp feeling pretty good and healthy which is sometimes not the case. We dodged any food borne illnesses along the way and though felt the 16,000ft altitude of basecamp it was acceptable. During the two and half weeks in this zone, there were a number of helicopter extractions from basecamp of people who did not adapt to that altitude as well. It’s a slow process independent of your physical fitness level. After all that travel it’s hard to not want to get to it right away, but the altitude is very apparent and kept us in check. This was the first time we could fully get in out bags and get settled since leaving home. It gave me a chance to go through and clean camera gear, setup and test solar charging. We each had a tent to ourselves (quickly filled with 50% mountain gear and 50% camera gear) and a dome tent for dining - pretty spacious and luxurious for mountaineering. The basecamp was larger than anticipated and everyone else at camp was there for a nearby 7000M peak. Earlier in the planning we contemplated skiing it but opted for a more technical, more aesthetic and much more comple mountain that offered the potential for some much lower probability but stunning ski lines. This was also the first time we put eyes on that objective. Our sherpa team prepared an incredible meal that first night (and thereafter) to great relief as the teahouse meals were a nice cultural experience but not keeping up with the higher protein, higher fat and large quantity of food I was used to - especially when active in the mountains. This was starting to be a critical concern of mine. Another long day yesterday with @laurentbibollet starting at midnight from the valley floor! We climbed Nantillons glacier via the summer route first, finding wet snow and easy mixt climbing, then on its right side to the bottom of Spencer couloir! Plan A on aiguille de Blaitiere didn’t look that good but the line we partly skied in 2014 with @dcapoz (from 50 m below summit) on Rocher de la Corde looked appealing... Climbing quickly the first 200m, we had to rope on for the last 50m to have a safer progression... Amazing ambiance and unique view from this aesthetic (and not well known) summit... After testing the snowpack with the rope and doing a 10m rappel a bit lower, we enjoyed pretty nice corn snow on technical steep ramps... After such a long long approach to come here we thought we should rather try to do some more turns so we climbed a ramp in the North face of Pointe des Nantillons. Snow was pretty bad with a hard crust (and the line is really short) but we were just happy to be here enjoying the mountains. With the afternoon storm being a bit late, we decided to try a last couloir facing West ending at the pass between Grepon and Bec d’oiseau. Quiet short again but aesthetic with steeps sections, we were lucky to find good corn snow. Then Nantillons glacier was sticky and wet and we found snow patches bringing us back to the main trail and a well deserved lift down... It was probably the first time I was skiing so late in season and it felt like a great way to end the season 😊 No informations about previous descents of those lines! Doug Scott is a legendary climber. His climbs in the Himalaya were the foundation for a generation worth of dreams of climbing. The 1975 ascent of the Southwest face of Everest was the real deal. The ascent of the south face of Shishapangma, pictured here, was another climb of the ages. More than climbing Doug has helped the communities that intertwine with his life. @communityactionnepal is dedicated to helping rural Nepal. In March Doug was diagnosed with cerebral lymphoma, a type of brain cancer. Subsequently, he has been limited to the ground floor of his home in the Lake District. Dayara Bugyal Trek Itinerary Day 1 - Drive from Haridwar - Barsu (220 kms/day-long drive) Embark on your journey at dawn with a meal and a day-long drive from Haridwar to Barsu covering 220 kms. The route trails through the scenic towns of Rishikesh, Chamba and Uttarkashi beside the Bhagirathi River. On arriving Barsu that stands tall at 7,545 ft, settle down for the evening in a guesthouse. Day 2 - Trek from Barsu - Barnala (4 hours) This 4 kms long trek is a gradual ascend landscaped beautifully with Rhododendrons, Silver Oak and Deodar forests. Reach the destination for the day which is Barnala at an elevation of 8,530 ft. It is this place which marks the beginning of the famed undulating stretches of green prairies or ‘Bugyals’. Set up your campsite at this ideal location and retire here for the night. Day 3 - Trek from Barnala - Dayara Bugyal (5 kms) This day entails an ascending trek of about 5 kms to the high alpine meadow of Dayara Bugyal, Uttarakhand that is elevated at 9,980 ft through the Barnal grasslands. On arriving this vast meadow that resembles a table top, you can catch sight of some majestic peaks, namely Srikanth, Rudregaira, Gangotri I, II & III, Jaonli, Draupadi ka Danda I & II, Black peak, Bandarpunch and such. Spend the night in the camp set up here. Day 4 - Trek from Dayara Bugyal - Bakaria Top - Dayara Bugyal (3 kms) This day marks the climb up from Dayara Bugyal to Bakaria top, the highest point of the vast meadow standing at 12,000 ft. Get enchanted by the panoramic views of snowy peaks, lush valleys and such from the top. Depart from Bakaria back to the campsite at Dayara Bugyal. Day 5 - Trek from Dayara Bugyal - Pichkiya (8 kms) Begin the day with a hearty meal after which starts your descent to Pichkiya that is at an elevation of 7,873 ft. After trekking 6 to 7 hours through a mix of ascends and descends over alpine meadows, dense woods and little rivulets, reach the campsite of Pichkiya. Day 6 - Trek from Pichkiya to Barsu (4.5 kms) This last day of Dayara Bugyal trekking, it involves descending down to Barsu along a well marked trail through the surrounding thickets. Weekend before last. We spent 3 nights sleeping on snow and practicing pulling each other out of crevasses and then woke up really really early and walked up to the top of Mt Baker. By far the coolest part was watching the sun rise over the clouds as it cast a shadow of the mountain (which we were climbing) below us. This was my first time summiting a glacier. It was both humbling (crevasses are a little scary, you should not fall in one) and inspiring (we did it!) and now (that Ive had some recovery) Im ready to start planning the next one 😁🏔️⛏️ I didnt take any pics because I was too afraid of dropping my phone and watching it slide down 3000 feet, but Jason let me steal these from him (thanks, Jason) - @jodmurphy on Instagram

You know things will happen up there as a storyteller, but you have no idea what, when, how or where they will unfold. And when they do, and they always do, you need to be prepared to respond and make decisions every second related to how what’s unexpectedly unfolding in front of your lens connects to your main plot line and cast members. . The delicate dance with documentary filmmaking is that the ‘characters’ in this case are my friends. They’re people I care a lot about. And the ‘plot’ is a collective ‘dream’, shared by many others also on the mountain. The stakes are very high, life or death at times. And this is not fiction, this is real life. . It’s taken me awhile to figure this film out. How do I handle the material I have? How do I breathe life into the lifeless? How do I honor? How I retain my own honor in the process? These are some of the questions I’ve struggled with in terms of a tangible approach forward. . I’ve traveled half way around the world to answer some of these questions and what I’ve just seen and recorded during the first part of my travels was one of the most beautiful displays of humanity at its finest. #AnnapurnaWithoutOxygen 163 days left! “Dont give up. Dont give in. Wake up, release your warrior and tell your demons, NOT TODAY!” This is going to be my route just like last year. The most technical part in this whole route being the ‘Dutch Rib’ starting at 6600m between Camp 2 and Camp 3. Last year I was also part of an accident between Camp 3 and Camp 4 which I have hardly spoken about to people. In short basically due to an anchor failure some people fell from the top onto me. (Not blaming anyone here, such accidents can happen in high mountains.) Resulting in myself having a short fall of about 60-70m. Before I could even realise what had happened, I was slipping on my back, head down the steep slope between Camp 3 and Camp 4. My sheer luck that an old expedition abandoned fixed line which was running horizontally right to left on the mountain got stuck in my crampons and I got saved. Immediately the other members of my team came to my rescue but it took them a while to reach as I had slipped down quite a bit. These five pictures show Sonam Tshering Sherpa nearing the summit of Mt. Everest on a windy 4th of October, 1992. Nine days before, we had reached the south summit (8,750 m, 28,704 ft) (me without supplemental oxygen), but had to return because it was too cold, too windy and my feet were becoming dangerously cold. This time -before starting our 2nd summit attempt- I spent two nights at the South Col (7,906 m / 25,938 ft) without supplemental O2. Unfortunately, once again, the wind was strong and so I finally decided to climb with one 2-litre bottle of oxygen. After taking this sequence of pictures, the battery of my SLR camera was empty - so our only summit shot was taken with Sonam’s disposable Fuji Quicksnap camera. I will show it in my next post. Behind Sonam, to the right, you see the starting part of the unclimbed east ridge of Nuptse, and straight behind him, you see the unclimbed southwest ridge of Lhotse. We were the only climbers on the summit of Mt. Everest that day, which is pretty rare nowadays. . . . . .
