Top 5 things that helped me during the first 8 weeks postpartum// ⭐️ Other than my incredible husband as well as support from family, these are the things that helped me during the first 8 weeks postpartum 1️⃣ Accepting help! Even if it felt uncomfortable. I was blown away by the support of my beautiful friends. I am so grateful for my “village” that cooked us meals and brought useful care packages, brought me coffee and smoothies, walked our dog, dropped off lunch, played with Summer, held the baby so I could get some things done, the list goes on. I am so grateful to everyone that helped us through this stage. First time around I felt awkward accepting help but this time I graciously said “yes please 🙏” to every generous offer. I hope I can repay these people when they need support. 2️⃣ Baby sling/wrap - this kept Oscar cosy and close, just where he wanted to be, and gave me my hands back to look after Summer and do other things like preparing food, hang out washing etc. 3️⃣ Meal prep before having the baby! Stocking the freezer with some nutritious, healing meals for us and some for Summer was a saviour. They seemed to run out very quickly though so stock as many as you can fit in. 4️⃣ Gel pads in the fridge for the nips. I used Rite Hydrogel discs and kept them in the fridge so they were ice cold and soothing. 5️⃣ Staying in my own lane. It’s easy to compare your experience and baby to others but this gets you nowhere. Whether it’s babies from your mothers group, family, friendship circle or even your own previous babies, try to remember that you are on your own path and all babies are different. I often found myself comparing Oscar to his older sister as a baby, but really they are just completely different babies and things were much easier when I accepted this. I don’t know if I’ve ever posted many photos of my girl and I on this page, so here we are! We are expecting #2 on October 4th and I am around 28 weeks in this photo, currently sitting at 32 weeks right now! I’ve been shooting almost every day lately which is awesome and I can never complain about keeping busy, especially prior to going into round 2 of being postpartum with a newborn in fall and winter months. As a self-employed person, I don’t get to access EI mat leave so it’s hustle time leading up to and usually back to biz shortly after as well! I should also note I will be shooting lifestyle again as soon as November so definitely hit me up! I want to say thanks SO much to all the families that are supporting me and my little biz amongst the Covid craziness this year. My co-coach for The Mother Runners, @lauranorrisrunning, has run PRs and coached COUNTLESS athletes to their best times #postpartum. Laura shares: . Many express concern that sleep deprivation, physiological changes, time demands, and mom guilt will prevent them from being the runner they desire to be. They find, however, that they fit it in. They may not train with as big of mileage or demanding of workouts, but they train smarter (starting with building a multifaceted base) and consistently - and that is what yields results. . One new mother ran a 5K PR in a time trial before her baby turned one. Another ran a series of 10K time trials, each faster than the other, a half marathon PR, and now runs an easy pace faster than her previous goal paces. . Perhaps what helps them is having a coach: someone in their corner saying, I believe in you. & its okay.... . Its okay to not be in the shape of your life at 3 months postpartum. . Its okay to skip a run during a sleep regression. . Its okay to not feel guilty for running two hours on your weekend long run. . Its good to be competitive with your goals. She was born on Election Day. It was nice, really. Being wrapped up in newborn bliss. No conversation of politics. No television on. No social media scrolling. Everyone excited for the first girl to our family. The first granddaughter on each side. We didn’t even know the results of the election for another 24 hours. Babies can be a great distraction from the world around you. They consume your energy. Your time. And now four years later, two more babies added.... I feel the same. The reason why I justify turning off a horrific sight to watch. I have to stay well. I need sleep. Littles need me. But I would be lying if I said I was not worried. I’m worried. I know you are too. No matter what side you are on. Because the divide is awful. It’s gut wrenching really. When did we stop caring about our neighbors? When did we decide it was ok to not be respectful when others spoke? When did we stop pausing to listen? When did we decide it’s ok to be inhumane to entire groups of people? Today I’m sad. Today I’m checking out and distracting myself with the busy motherhood that is my life. Because if I don’t... I fear the next generation will continue this divide. So today, we will practice our listening ears, we will practice our kind words, we will pray for others hearts to be more kind, and we will love our neighbors who look/are/believe different than we do. Because kindness matters. Humans matter. 26 weeks !!! 💙💙💙 ———————————- Yesterday I had a routine antenatal appointment. As per usual, I took a pot of wee with me and my maternity notes tucked under my arm ready to present to my midwife.📝 I sat myself down in a waiting room with 6 other pregnant ladies all with their masks on, sat in silence. 🤫 ——— Our boy is measuring off the ‘normal’ curve for expected growth size at 26 weeks. ——— I personally am not worried at all, the hospital have requested a gestational diabetes test for me based on this ‘larger’ figure. ——— I think it’s very easy for anxiety to creep in. However one measurement doesn’t give a comparison. Our boy could be laying a certain way hence a larger measurement. We are happy to get measured again at 28weeks and see his growth rate for him. ——- Anyway I broke the silence and talked to the other ladies. With masks on it seems to me people talk less to each other. Like a barrier of speech. I had a lovely conversation talking to another pregnant mother which for me brings shared experiences and reassurance to one another.
