At Cobble Hill Cinemas the safety of our guests and employees is our top priority every day. While health and safety standards and procedures are followed on a daily basis at Cobble Hill Cinemas, we wanted to make you aware of the extra precautions we’re taking to ensure everyone stays healthy during this time of heightened concern about Coronavirus (COVID-19). What we are doing: We are closely monitoring daily updates and recommendations from the CDC. We are sanitizing seat armrests, and cup holders during theater cleanings before every show. Gloves are being worn by all staff. Every night our end-of-day cleaning team is disinfecting all hand-contact surfaces in guest-accessible areas (armrests, door handles, counters, railings, faucets). In addition to nightly deep cleaning, our theaters are increasing the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all high-traffic areas throughout the day. Door handles and box office counters are being disinfected every 30 minutes during business hours. Embedded throughout the gastrointestinal system is an extensive array of neurons that coordinates nearly all activities involved in digestion. These cells make up the enteric nervous system (ENS) and transmit signals from the gut to the brain, but are rare and fragile, making them difficult to isolate and study. A team led by researchers at the Broad and @massgeneral_ri has now overcome these challenges with two new methods, developed and used to generate a single-cell map of the ENS in humans and mice. Their findings suggest that the ENS is a central hub linking the intestinal, immune, and central nervous systems, and plays an important role in allergic, inflammatory, and motility disorders of the gut — as well as diseases affecting the brain. This image is a cross-section of mouse tissue that expresses GFP (green) in all ENS nuclei and tdTomato (red) in all ENS cells (neurons and glia). More Contagious Coronavirus Strain Now Dominates The first study to analyze the structure of the novel coronavirus from two waves of infection in a major city found that a more contagious strain dominates recent samples, researchers from Houston Methodist Hospital said on Wednesday. They examined more than 5,000 genomes from viruses recovered in the earliest phase of the pandemic in Houston, an ethnically diverse city of 7 million, and from an ongoing more recent wave of infections. The study, published as a preprint on the medRxiv server, found that nearly all (99.9%) of the strains in the second wave had a mutation, known as D614G, which has been shown to increase the number of spikes on the crown-shaped virus, increasing its ability to infect cells. In the earlier wave, 82% of genomes had the D614G mutation. The Houston researchers said patients infected with the variant strain had significantly higher amounts of the virus on initial diagnosis. But they found little evidence that mutations in the virus have made it deadlier, noting that severity of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, was more strongly linked to patients underlying medical conditions and genetics. Publishing in the ISME Journal, Ivan Mateus and colleauges show what happens at the molecular level when different fungi co-exist within the same plant. . Ivan says: “These results are very exciting as they show that multiple components of the molecular machinery controlling mating are activated when two genetically different [fungi] isolates meet inside the plant root”. . The activation signal for the mating-related genes was identified inside the host plant roots, suggesting that the host plant could play a role in the process. Vanaf vandaag is de nieuwe museale opstelling ‘Corona gaat viral’ te bewonderen in Micropia. Met deze opstelling wil Micropia de huidige coronapandemie van achtergrondinformatie voorzien. Was het de vleermuis, het schubdier of de mens? Naast de bestaande opstellingen in Micropia met virusmodellen van hiv, ebola en het pokkenvirus is nu ook het coronavirus te zien. De nieuwe opstelling is een combinatie van een opgezet schubdier en een 3D-geprint natuurgetrouw model van het coronavirus. Dit model is gemaakt van kunststof. In werkelijkheid is het virus ongeveer 125 nanometer in doorsnede.
