We know inside that our health has something to do with the health of the air, soil, water and animals that we rely on. While short termism punishes the environment around us for monetary gain, we lose out in the end. It seems like covid fell out of the blue, but a pandemic like this (or worse) has been on the cards for a while. Governments have been warned by scientists and international bodies that industrial farming and our rates of deforestation put us at a high risk of disease. The good news is that those same scientists and international bodies have made a plan to avoid future pandemics. It takes the form of #onehealth. This has been around for a while, thanks to the @who and the @fao, and is an infinitely sensible guide for governments to follow. It is based on common sense: a healthy planet means healthy people. This is quite a revolution to our society, Im sure youd agree. But we know it to be true. Each of these suggestions can be acted upon on an individual level as well as a policy level. We can support local farmers and boycott supermarket meat and dairy. We can fight to save the forests near our homes. We can foster a relationship with and love of the natural world in ourselves and our children. We dont know how bad this or the next pandemic will be, but we know what needs to happen to stop them. With the fires here in CA this week, I’ve noticed that my usual resourcing practices aren’t having much of an effect. I often wake up anxious with the smoke, try to do a bit of practice, and find I can’t generate much resilience. My engine won’t start. The past few days I’ve been doing some research on trauma during times of overlapping crises, and came across an article in The Atlantic (“Two Disasters are Exponentially Worse than One”) which explained a bit of my experience with resourcing practice—like the tank running on empty. Here’s a quote: “You can think of coping resources in part as a fixed entity, like a muscle,” says Joe Ruzek, a longtime PTSD researcher at Stanford University. ‘You have a certain amount of energy to deploy,’ and at some point the amount required exceeds the amount available. That, at least in theory, is when resilience reaches its limit. For many people—especially health-care workers, COVID-19 patients, and those who have lost loved ones—the past six months have steadily depleted those energy stores.” I’m not a frontline worker and haven’t lost anyone close to COVID, but this made a lot of sense. I’ve been blown away by the resilience shown in the face of adversity, injustice, and trauma the past five months, and have silently been wondering when “energy stores” of people and communities would start to run dry. When internal resources bottom out, I think simply *recognizing* that this can happen can itself bring some resilience. I’ve seen a lot of posts the past few days about giving ourselves (and others) permission for the myriad of experiences we might be having right now, and this felt like an added layer. I’ll keep suggesting practices and people here and in stories that can support resilience (@prentis.h is a great start), but just wanted to send out this reminder that if your engine isn’t starting, you’re not alone. - @trauma.sensitive.mindfulness on Instagram

I wish could make laundry disappear. Sometimes I just need a break, most of the time I dont get one. We overthink because we are desperate creatures hunting for answers. We like certainty and we like being in control. Don’t worry, its part of human survival tactic. When you silence yourself you prepare for the poison, you know its coming so you get ready. Read, watch tv, do chores, shower and cook. Anything will serve as a distraction when you are silent. Try to remind yourself that you are overthinking and that it will pass. Give yourself the affirmation that it is fear and stress attacking you and that you will defeat it. Here we go again... 🤯⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ These are just some of the worries that have been whizzing around my mind after watching the Government announcements yesterday. I’ve made no secret of the fact I struggle with anxiety & although I’m feeling much better than a few months ago, this ‘second wave’ will certainly challenge that.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I think it’s so crucial we talk about our mental health. Whilst it’s great to want to remain positive & ‘just get through this’ it’s also important to admit if you’re not OK.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am 𝐧𝐨𝐭 an expert on this by any stretch, but some of the things I can recommend to help with anxious thought patterns are:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🔹 Write worries down, even overnight, to try to avoid them taking over your brain⁣⁣ 🔹 Discuss how you’re feeling with a loved one⁣⁣ 🔹 Exercise regularly - a mixture of HIIT & yoga works best for me⁣⁣ 🔹 Be conscious of your diet & alcohol consumption and how this affects how you’re feeling⁣⁣ 🔹 Practice mindfulness or meditation, learn about breathing techniques - the @calm app is great for this⁣⁣ 🔹 Schedule time every week to do something nice for YOU. Doesn’t have to be big - mine is a bubble bath & face mask 🔹 Take a break from social media & screens, including news sites if the news contributes to your anxiety⁣⁣ 🔹 If you feel that your anxiety or worries are getting to the point you can’t cope, always seek professional help. Over the past few days, I’ve been struggling and having dealt with mental health problems for a long time, I’ve learnt to recognise the signs that I’m finding things harder than usual. I can’t really pinpoint what’s wrong, I just don’t feel right. I’ve been finding it hard to get up in the mornings, I’ve had panic attacks (something I haven’t experienced in months), my thoughts have felt completely uncontrollable. If you’re going through a difficult time at the moment, you’re not alone. I’m not sure what the answers are, this account has never been about giving advice and telling people how to be happy, it’s about me being honest, sharing my experiences, sharing things that have helped me, reminding you that you’re not alone. now that the days are getting colder and autumn is approaching, chances are, depressive episodes are coming for me. winter is my biggest depression trigger ever, and swedish winter is hellish to me (and like, most of us living here). i decided to sit down a little while ago and write down all my personal depression signs so i can be more mindful of when it might happen. it seems - well, depressing, to plan for depressive episodes, but that’s life with bipolar disorder. you gotta stay on top of your moods. i am a huge advocate for understanding your mental illness and knowing your triggers, warning signs, and symptoms. when i start feeling depressed, my extrovert heart grows uninterested in social interaction, and when i find myself around others i just feel so incredibly dull, bored and tired of playing the character that is myself. my energy is low and my motivation is pretty much zero. dishes pile up, teeth get that fuzzy feeling from not being brushed enough, room starts looking like a pigsty, it’s a whole mess. but once i realize that i might be depressed, the easier it gets to start fighting back, because you have to fight that damn depression until your will to retain your normal self is stronger than depression’s grip of your psyche. knowing what your depression looks like when it starts creeping up is really important. these are my signs of an incoming depression, what are your signs ? • • • #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mentalhealthawareness #psynligt #nostigma #mentalhealthwarrior #recovery #art #digitalart #artistsoninstagram #comic #crazyheadcomics - @crazyheadcomics on Instagram

Anxiety Attack vs. Panic Attack ⬇️ A panic attack is an intense and sudden feeling of fear, terror, or discomfort accompanied by several other mental and physical symptoms. The symptoms of panic attacks are often so extreme that they cause severe disruption.
