I was very recently informed by a specialist that I have a rare condition that has increased my risk for a specific cancer by a whole lot.... here’s the kicker. I’ve spent my entire adult life consumed with worry over my poor genetic predispositions for cancer. I have been burying myself alive in the worry... But now that the threat is so much more real.... well, I’m finally coping and processing and learning to live outside of fear. Sam and Nate have been such an inspiration to me. They’re one of those couples who basically met, fell in love, went for it and got married soon after in a very familiar backyard and just took that leap of faith of being a team for the rest of their lives. Now, here we are almost a year later, welcoming Cooper. He apparently looks just like Nate but I’m secretly praying he has Sams bomb curls. Apple picking in this orchard has been a family tradition for many years now. I always look forward to going there and I never want to leave it! But it wasn’t until speaking to a friend the other day that I realised that my love of orchards goes deeper than that. It is generational! My grandparents in Ukraine lived next to an old orchard and it was a special place until new builts went up in its place in the 90s. 🎗September is pediatric cancer awareness month.🎗Today, 43 children will be diagnosed with cancer and sadly 7 children will die from this disease. 💛The causes of childhood cancer and unknown and can not be prevented. 💛Due to lack of research, some pediatric cancers have a zero percent survival rate, either at diagnosis or recurrence. 💛All 16 different childhood cancers receive 4% of the national cancer institute’s nearly $5 billion dollar budget while other cancers receive much more. ⠀ When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected and we want them to know they are not alone in this journey.. I’ve been putting off taking a portrait with her like crazy for the dumbest reason; I don’t want to see how big she is getting in my arms 😭I want to stay in denial that she isn’t growing up. I was asked today on facebook: but @laurakmoore_ where do you find the time? ... last week we shared the B2B facet of our new spruced up website www.laurakmoore.com. While weddings and portraits are our bread and butter, I shared a new compartment of what I/we do. Its not new. Its been in the works for a while. I ended up responding with a little more heart stuff and wanted to share some guts behind the grandeur. I have no desire to walk this entrepreneur path faking things or presenting something inauthentic--a slippery slope of social media and all of its entangled web of expectations. Keeping things simple and honest... To the question: where do you find the time.... i get this question a lot. :) so much about productivity is about efficiency and prioritizing tasks. But i also am constantly wrestling with balance and living life. someone once said there are people who work to live and people who live to work. I LOVE to work. Its in my blood. finding the RIGHT work with the RIGHT people doing the GOOD things for the BEST yes is deeply life-giving. without getting too preachy or anything -- i might say that the question how do you find the time prompts to help people find the time or better yet use time better. :D its a big part of the initial coaching strategy. lol // yup...that sounded preachy. I am excited to read this book from the Lady Gaga foundation! Channel Kindness - Hope, Kind, Love Gaga. It was just released a few days ago and it’s jam packed of feel good stories from everyday people doing kind things and overcoming a wide variety of struggles! I was flipping through the book and saw faces of young children, adults, female, male, trans, many races, and people with disabilities. Hopefully everybody feels welcomed reading this book and a sense that they belong in this world. I liked too, as I flipped through that Gaga writes little inspirational messages throughout the book to the people who contributed stories. It’s all very touching. We are all the same in our core, just trying to make it as best we can with the struggles we have. With a mixture of excitement and fear… I’m putting my photos out into the world. I hope you enjoy! I chose these photos as my first because they are meaningful to me. They came about as an assignment to create a photo inspired by a song. As songs often do, it took me down memory lane… to a cheesy pop song that was playing everywhere during a very dark period in my life. A time of extreme sadness when I was lost, scared and broken… a time when I was simply existing. It’s with the support of amazing people in my life, and some therapy, that I found the courage to take small steps, that turned into bigger steps, that changed the path of my life. I moved across the country, I left my job, I went back to school, I started working on film sets, I started acting again, I found a love of photography… and most importantly, I found joy. Swinging over a cliff overlooking LA… the freedom, the childlike joy… the future is still uncertain, but now I’m enjoying the journey. Look for happiness every day. Do something that excites you, that scares you, that allows you to play. We are back on the road, and van will be our home for 4-6 weeks. Today was and still is (still driving) a long driving day. Total for today should be about 14 hours of driving. 😬 We stopped and cooked lunch, and stopped to cook our dinner too. On top of that we stopped a lot for “potty” breaks. But I am always amazed at Zoey’s patients and how well she is handling these long drives. So this little sweetheart decided to self-wean about a week ago. My breastfeeding journey is over and alas so are our baby days. Jed and I have decided that three incredibly awesome little firecracker ladies (Jed has a daughter in NSW as well as our two) is enough for us. And so our little family is complete!! What an absolutely gorgeous day today. I was supposed to be away this weekend but plans changed and I took a last minute Motherhood session by the lake this evening! These sunsets never get old! As the days get shorter our shoot times will get earlier which bodes well for the littles. If you’re interested in booking a session I shoot beach sessions into October and fall sessions through November and as the weather allows. No beach or fall minis these year—sorry! 💜 September is Craniosynostosis Awareness Month! Join us in turning social media purple! 💜 . Huey was diagnosed with sagittal craniosynostosis shortly after birth & when he was a few days shy of 6 months old, he underwent a nearly 8-hour-long surgery called Cranial Vault Reconstruction at @mottchildren to help reshape his skull & give his brain room to grow. You can learn more about his cranio journey by visiting my Cranio highlight 💜 . Craniosynostosis occurs when the sutures that connect the bony plates in an infant’s skull close prematurely, resulting in problems with normal brain & skull growth. Surgery is the main treatment in effort to make sure a child’s brain has enough room to grow & to prevent a buildup of pressure on the brain. As surgery typically occurs early in the first year (~6 months of age on average), early diagnosis is critical. However, many medical professionals know very little - to nothing at all - about craniosynostosis which can lead to a misdiagnosis/no diagnosis at all until a child begins to suffer from serious, sometimes irreversible health consequences, that were often preventable. . An image I have envisioned capturing during the summer has been to photograph my daughter’s bath. I am glad I finally got the chance to do so before the summer’s end. This was taken when we were at the countryside staying for a few days at a lovely farmhouse cottage. The sink was next to the window with beautiful natural lighting. It is one of my favorite summer memories. We spent good quality time together seeing the kids play in the fields. Для нас сейчас это очень актуальная тема. 😂😂😂 ⠀ На самом деле, я немного поменяла своё мнение по поводу школьного образования. ⠀ Раньше мне казалось, что очень важно и нужно дать ребёнку хорошую базу знаний с первых классов. Поэтому я искала для сына школу с сильной программой ( многие американские школы в начальных классах обучают детей достаточно поверхностно в силу их возраста). Только сейчас я начинаю понимать почему. ⠀ Школа в которой сейчас занимается Даня очень хорошая. Помимо основной программы они изучают русский/украинский языки на выбор, прописи и многое другое. Happy Friday, friends! 🤗 ⠀ 💫 ⠀ Сегодня пятница, друзья, а значит есть повод для веселья) Мне кажется я никогда так не ждала выходные как во время школы у ребёнка. 😁 ⠀ Меня часто спрашивают о том, что я делаю с фотогеничными вещами после съемки. Ребята, я с ними живу. 😂 Мне безумно нравится всякий винтаж: мебель, декор, игрушки, посуда. Очень люблю такие вещи в интерьере. Мне кажется, они создают особый уют и атмосферу. ⠀ У моего мужа, правда, своё мнение по этому поводу. От терпеть не может подержанные вещи и такой стиль в целом. Вот так и живем: он ворчит, а я делаю своё дело. 😂 К слову, любовь к старинным вещам у меня появилась вместе с любовью к фотографии. Она же подталкивает меня на усовершенствование своих кулинарных способностей. Так же появилось огромное желание научиться вязать. 🎗September is pediatric cancer awareness month.🎗Today, 43 children will be diagnosed with cancer and sadly 7 children will die from this disease. 💛The causes of childhood cancer are unknown and can not be prevented. 💛Due to a lack of research, some pediatric cancers have a zero percent survival rate, either at diagnosis or recurrence. 💛All 16 different childhood cancers receive 4% of the national cancer institute’s nearly $5 billion dollar budget while other cancers receive much more. ⠀ When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected and we want them to know they are not alone in this journey. Forrest. My baby. I think even if we have more children he will still insist on being called my baby. He is so sweet and affectionate. He wakes us every morning with hugs and kisses which is probably why my husband has such a hard time kicking him out of our bed. It’s hard to be stern with him when he is being so loving. Every morning when I help him pull up his pants he kisses my arm. His love language is definitely touch, as is mine. Which is probably why we are so close. When I had my girls only 18 months apart, everyone thought I was crazy. • I was crazy. (I still am 🤪) • It was so overwhelming, having 2 under 2. Доброе утро!🍁🍁🍁 Вот и закончился наш отпуск...мы дома😊 В Турции, как всегда, отличные погода и сервис☀️ ...море теплое 🌊, еда вкусная, люди гостеприимные и обожающие детей ... Я ни дня не пожалела, что мы вырвались отдохнуть 😊 Что же изменилось сейчас в Турции из-за надоевшего всем 🦠: - Требуют ношение масок(в свободном доступе по всему отелю) и везде стоят санитайзеры. В нашем отеле правда не сильно напрягали с масками проживающих, но температуру замеряли часто... - Вся еда в ресторане за стеклом и ее накладывают вам сотрудники ресторана...из-за этого очереди у каждой зоны с едой...накладывают то больше, то меньше, чем нужно...времени уходит много... но в целом за пару дней привыкаешь... - Почти нет детской анимации, хотя взрослая осталась практически без изменений, только пенных вечеринок нет... - Все вещи сдаются в багаж в самолет, даже маленькие детские чемоданы...только дамскую сумку или рюкзак можно взять в ручную кладь...говорят еще норма багажа меняется с октября с 20 кг на 10 кг... Все кто думает и не может решиться ехать ли отдыхать сейчас в Турцию, конечно стоит ☀️☀️☀️ я бы вот даже не уезжала оттуда 😂 но работа не ждет и осень тоже🍂 Поэтому со среды старт фотопрогулок 🍁🍁🍁 - @kkornilova on Instagram

Yesterday was #nationaldaughtersday and I failed to post about my little mini-me 🤦🏻♀️ For those of you that don’t know, Sissy was born one week after my mom lost her battle to pancreatic cancer. In a cloud of disbelief, grief, anger, and exhaustion, this little girl was my light. She was my security blanket and the reason I literally had to get out of bed each day. She is now independent, feisty, girly, nurturing, and one of the most hilarious humans ever. She has rightly earned her “honey badger” nickname and I hope she keeps it forever! Ive never been particularly outwardly religious, but Ive always been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - through thick and thin, times of faith and times of great doubt. Ive often found great peace in the hymns I grew up with. Whether singing, playing the piano, or just listening, some of my strongest spiritual experiences have been felt, and greater depth of understand of the Gospel of Jesus Christ found through song. It brings me great peace. 🎼 Ive missed meeting together these past six months, and singing together with my congregation - most of the songs we sing in my house right now are childrens church songs, the itsy bitsy spider, or Frozen. 🎗September is pediatric cancer awareness month.🎗Today, 43 children will be diagnosed with cancer and sadly 7 children will die from this disease. 💛The causes of childhood cancer are unknown and can not be prevented. 💛Due to lack of research, some pediatric cancers have a zero percent survival rate, either at diagnosis or recurrence. 💛All 16 different childhood cancers receive 4% of the national cancer institute’s nearly $5 billion dollar budget while other cancers receive much more. ⠀ When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family is affected and we want them to know they are not alone in this journey. 🎗On December 4th, 2011 my daughter Ava was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor called #dipg. DIPG is terminal upon diagnosis and one of the most devastating brain tumor diagnosis for a child. There is no cure and all children who receive this diagnosis will pass away within two years. ⠀ ⠀ We were told she would have roughly 9-12 more months with us. Shock, disbelief and hopelessness filled those first few weeks.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ But Avas spirit was truly one of strength. She constantly made me laugh, even when all I wanted to do was cry. It was because of her love and courage that I was able to spend her last few months enjoying simple moments with her and making her dreams come true. It was because of her that I was able to have HOPE. Im so grateful for the memories we made during that time together. ⠀ ⠀ I still have HOPE that one day there will be a treatment for kids with dipg. That it will no longer be the devastating diagnosis that it is today. Thank you for going gold this month and sharing awareness. PRINT SALE UPDATE: - On Sunday I opened my first ever print sale, featuring work from my project “The McFarthest Place,” an ongoing two-and-a-half year project supported by the National Geographic Society (@insidenatgeo) and @LeicaSociety. This work looks at the importance of community in one of the most remote places in the lower-48, a place that in 2009 was the farthest place in the Continental U.S. from a McDonald’s. The image in this post is probably my favorite image I’ve ever made, of my good friend @elizabluesings and her children outside an abandoned homestead on land they graze. - I’m selling six images (see my previous post and the proofs here), all 6x9 images on 8x10 paper, for $100 per image or $450 for a set of all six. These are open-edition archival digital C-type prints, printed by a master printer I work with in New York, @luxlab, and signed by me. You can pay for images via Venmo (@ Mark-Kauzlarich), PayPal (using the Friends and Family option to paypal.me/markkauzlarich), or message me for an address to send a check.
