Lemon Roasted Salmon with Sweet Potatoes INGREDIENTS: -2 medium sweet potatoes, cubed -sea salt + fresh black pepper -ยฝ teaspoon cumin powder -a few tablespoons of olive oil -4 cups of broccolini (or broccoli florets) -12 ounces of wild-caught salmon filets -1 tablespoon butter -2 tablespoons lemon juice -ยผ teaspoon garlic powder -โ…› teaspoon red pepper flakes and/or fresh thyme (optional) INGREDIENTS: Preheat the oven to 425ยบF. Arrange the diced sweet potatoes on one sheet pan and the broccolini on another sheet pan. Drizzle both with olive oil. Top the sweet potatoes with salt, pepper, and cumin, toss to combine. Toss the broccolini with the salt and pepper. Bake the sweet potatoes for 15 minutes, set broccolini aside. While the sweet potatoes are baking, prepare the salmon. In a small bowl, combine the butter, lemon juice, garlic powder, pepper flakes, thyme, salt and pepper. Heat in the microwave for 15 seconds or until the butter melts. Line a small baking sheet with foil, spray with cooking spray. Place the salmon filets on top. Drizzle with the prepared lemon sauce. When the timer on the potatoes goes off, remove and toss. Place back in the oven along with the broccolini and salmon for 12-15 minutes. Check on the salmon and broccolini around the 8 minute mark. Salmon is done when firm to the touch. Baking time will vary depending on the thickness of the filet. Divide the veggies and salmon into containers and allow to cool slightly before refrigerating. Optimising meal timing to further muscle gain. Multiple meal frequency, meaning eating meals throughout the day has proved its test of time in the bodybuilding and fitness world in aiding an efficient muscle building pathway. However, just like all things in life it has gone under fire and there are a lot of people out there who say it doesnt really matter or equate to anything more, or less. What matters is total calories/macros for the day. Personally, in most cases I totally disagree if your main goal is to optimize a muscle building environment. Of course different loading bearing sports and exercises impact muscle tissue break down differently. However, Iโ€™m talking about high demanding muscle fiber activation loads which go hand in hand with your time in the gym. **Before I explain, let me quantify the above statement. Different clients may have different meal frequencies, however if your personal goal is to be building new connective muscle tissue and increase strength your need for total Macroโ€™s will always be higher than a normal person. Some of my clients will consume 5 meals, others may have 6-8 meals in there waking hours depending on a number of factors. Even though there are many scientific studies which support that meal frequency has very little impact on fat loss as long as the total macro values and calorie are the same for that day, understand these studies are not based on real athletes, athletes like you and I, people with the mindset of creating new positive progress and further aiding new muscle mass. The human digestive system is one of the most key elements that should be considered when trying to optimize a physical and overall well-being. Itโ€™s my opinion that it is simply not possible to digest all full proteins when consumed in very high numbers in a smaller number of meals in a day.
