It is with great sadness that I share the news of the loss of my father, Richard Holtz, Sr., who passed away July 28th after a brief bout with pneumonia and complications from COVID-19. My dad shared the family business with so many people, including my sisters and me. He learned from his father, and believed the best way to teach others the business was through kindness and thoughtful training. He also believed in treating everyone he came into contact with as a member of our extended family. That ethos served him well as a businessman, and also showed his character and inspired others to behave the same. It is because of his leadership, with my mom Geny at his side, that H.J. Holtz & Son continues to serve the community as well as include members on our team who are excited to learn and advance in their own careers. He regarded the craft of painting and wallpapering as a profession, and worked to instill that philosophy in our company and beyond. Dad was a member of the Richmond Chapter of the PCA, Middle Atlantic Council, and the National PCA organization for more than 50 years. He held executive committee offices on both the chapter and council levels and was a friend and mentor to countless painting contractors, crew members, associates, and industry leaders. While it is hard to imagine this company without my parents, we are so thankful for their leadership, their instruction, and their wholehearted support. We will do all we can to live out their legacy and keep H.J. Holtz & Son true to the goals of honesty and quality workmanship while regarding everyone as family. Rick - @hjholtzandson on Instagram

Today City Attorney Herrera filed civil lawsuits against 28 known drug dealers in the Tenderloin to combat the open-air drug dealing that is plaguing the neighborhood. San Francisco is experiencing an opioid epidemic, and this year weve already had 81 drug overdose deaths in the Tenderloin alone. The injunctions filed today target specific dealers who come from around the Bay Area to sell hard drugs like cocaine, fentanyl and heroin to San Francisco residents. The lawsuits would prohibit them from entering the Tenderloin. Violations would have civil and criminal consequences. While this step is not a silver bullet to fix this problem entirely, it gives law enforcement officers another tool to keep Tenderloin residents safe. The kids, parents, seniors, workers and business owners of this neighborhood have suffered too much at the hands of these dealers. Enough is enough. - @sfcityattorney on Instagram

HUGE congrats to my fellow Recording Academy members that put in major grass roots style work both locally & nationally back in October. The goal was to educate members of Congress and other Government officials about reforming the severely outdated 1995 law that governs many forms of licensing and royalties due to artists such as streaming music plays. We spoke & our government officials that we elected listened. | Artist currently do get paid per digital play or stream. Sadly the rate per play is roughly 1/8 of a penny. Artists on the radio get paid per play, however they get between $75-$100 per play. When an artist gets their music played via a streaming outlet their music is being played because the listener seeks the artist out & chooses to play their tracks. The radio crams whatever they want to play down your earhole. Record labels have to pay the radio stations to play their artists. #SeemsLegit | Spotify’s revenue doubled last year from $1.2 BIL to $3.3 BIL & they are estimating they will do $6 BIL in 2018. Spotify pls remember that the reason you are going to get 6 Bs this year is because of the ARTIST’S MUSIC you are charging people to hear via subscriptions or paid advertisement. Record streams = Today’s record sales. | The Music Modernization Act officially passed the U.S. House of Representative unanimously 415–0 vote Wednesday. Earlier the MMA passed through the House Judiciary Committee with a 32–0 vote. | Hopefully the Senate agrees that these 23 yr old laws were made when no one played songs on streaming outlets like @Spotify @Pandora @YouTube & @AppleMusic need to be reformed. | Good ‘ole Donald J. Trump needs to sign it & it will be a law. This will be a very historical moment in music. It will help musicians that are on their early grind earn enough money so they don’t have to have 6 part time jobs. That will only yield more amazing artists & songs for places like Spotify to host & stream to listeners thus earning them & hopefully the artists more money. | Love or hate him, or both, being the entertainer he is, I bet Trump won’t have a problem putting his John Hancock all over it. #🖋 #Grammys #MusicModernizationAct #Musician #🎼 #🎹 #🎤 - @billhamel on Instagram

Today, we celebrate and honor the legacy of Utah’s pioneers, who journeyed across the country to settle into the Salt Lake Valley. On Pioneer Day, I think of my 2x-great grandfather Miles Romney, who was among that courageous group of pioneers. He would go on to design the famous spiral staircases in the St. George Tabernacle. Their legacy of faith, determination, and courage is an inspiration to us all. Wishing all Utahns a wonderful Pioneer Day! - @senatorromney on Instagram
