Being empowered is knowing that you can control the outcome of your life. With being empowered comes great responsibility. That responsibility is called accountability Being able to hold yourself accountable is not always easy that’s why there are millions of dollars spent on coaches each year. Now more than ever it has been easy to blame the outside world for your circumstances but at this point if you haven’t decided to take charge of your life and really make the changes that you are waiting for, do you think you ever will? I struggled with accountability because growing up I never experienced real accountability. I was not encouraged to follow my dreams I was not challenged when I gave up on things. I was not corrected when I was wrong I was spoiled in that way and when I started to experience the real world it was a constant battle. I expected accountability to be an ego stroke with a gentle nudge in the right direction which stunted my growth. After learning the hard truth over and over again I realized that real accountability won’t always be nice, it won’t always be pretty but it will be honest and sometimes the rawest form of love I will receive. As a coach I’m understanding that in order for me to show up for my clients and create real change in their life’s I can’t be their friend and tell them what they want to hear. I tell them what they need to hear. I guide them to be honest with themselves and show them how being uncomfortable and moving past fear will really get them To where they want to go. Holding up a mirror and showing them where they are playing the victim and allowing them the space and time to grow into an empowered person. It’s not easy and it’s not always pretty but being held accountable keeps you on the right track and allows you to be patient and persistent knowing that you are in control of your results. No one has been charged in the murder of Breonna Taylor. LMPD detecive Brett Hankison has been charged for shooting blindly into apartments neighboring Breonna Taylor’s—essentially, for bullets that missed Breonna Taylor. This ruling is disgraceful. It fails to hold police accountable for abuse of power and violence—especially in communities of color. It fails to uphold justice and safety for Black lives in Kentucky, and also for the Black lives watching how Louisville has handled these tragic events. In the aftermath of another heat wave, its worth talking about trees. Trees play a big role in mitigating heat. But ~1/5th of LA’s tree canopy is found in just four neighborhoods. That means 1% of LA lives among 18% of our trees. Areas without trees experience the Urban Heat Island Effect, where heat from the sun gets trapped in the concrete and released throughout the day, increasing temperatures between 5-20°. Heat islands put our unhoused neighbors, along with those who lack access to adequate air conditioning, at higher risk of heat-related death -- a preventable tragedy that claims around 60-70 lives each year. Ample tree canopy greatly reduces not only heat, but pollution as well! Trees also store and purify water. One tree can keep as much as 1,400 gallons of rain from running off into the street each year. The locations of urban heat islands today are a direct result of racist planning practices. A recent study across 100 cities found that formerly redlined neighborhoods are 5° hotter on average. Historically redlined neighborhoods remain lower-income and are more likely to have Black and Latinx residents living in them today. In LA, historically A-graded areas are 5.5° cooler on average, while D-graded areas are 2.1° warmer. A nearly 8° difference. Sadly, instead of planting more trees, LA is losing them. According to a USC study, virtually every LA neighborhood experienced a 10-year canopy reduction of 14-55%. Decisions made by our city have contributed to LA losing more trees. In 2018, Council voted to allow developers to pay a fee to remove trees, instead of replanting two trees for every one removed. The city hired nonprofit City Plants to come up with a plan for managing its urban forest and reversing the steep decline. Unfortunately, we have not followed through on implementing its recommendations. City Plants estimated that LA requires an urban forestry budget of $55-65m to maintain and expand its tree canopy. Instead, the city *cut* its Tree budget -- from $27.8m in 2019/20 to $19.7m in 2020/21. As we face a grim climate future, we must maintain and grow our tree canopy, and fully fund the program laid out by City Plants. - @nithyaforthecity on Instagram

The director of @dillard_raycharles was recently appointed to the James Beard Foundation Food and Beverage Investment Fund For Black And Indigenous Americans leadership committee. The fund is a new grant initiative that will provide financial resources to food and beverage businesses owned by Black or Indigenous people that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This fund is a component of the James Beard Foundation’s Open For Good campaign. The campaign launched in April to help rebuild and develop a more equitable restaurant/food services industry. The investment fund aims to disburse grants of $15,000 each equally across Black and Indigenous populations throughout the United States. We recently collaborated with artist @thehoneyeffect to produce a new artwork for @unitedlegalaccess’s crowdfunding campaign, powered by the @avivauk Community Fund. ULA are a virtual legal support service offering free legal advice to the communities that need it the most. They are crowdfunding to raise £45,000 to continue providing a service that has been a lifeline for many people around the U.K, especially the last 6 months which has seen a rise in new clients and cases as a result of the pandemic. A large part of ULA’s work has also been supporting Windrush victims with their compensation claims. The experience of one particular victim of the Windrush scandal, which inspired a front page headline forms part of the backstory behind this new work by the artist and the name of an upcoming body of work by the artist called ‘Banned from Britain’. The artwork can now be purchased as an A3 Giclee print in exchange for a donation of £60. 100% of proceeds from each sale will go directly to ULA through the Aviva Community Fund platform. For as long as I can remember I’ve always been blasé about my birthday. I felt that if the calendar only recognizes it once every four years (leap year baby problems) who am I to make a big to-do about it. In my maiden speech in Parliament, I encouraged all Singaporeans to stay resilient in this crisis and to run as a team in this marathon. Everyone must do his or her part. To do that, our society and workplace norms must transform too to give them the opportunities and platforms. While many parents grapple with the new challenge of today’s times of home schooling kids, we speak to Sunitha who decided to homeschool them since last year. As a certified educator from the American Montessori Society, she shares her experience and some tips and tricks for parents to manage home schooling their kids more efficiently. “Me and my husband Jonathan moved to the US in 2013 from Bangalore, India and we now live in New Jersey with two beautiful kids, one is eight years old while the other one is six. Honestly, I never thought that Id home-school my children but the year before last, I took a break from teaching and stayed home. My son was in Pre-K at the Montessori School and my daughter was at the public school in the first grade. I thought Id enjoy the peace of just having time to myself but I was so wrong. I missed having my children around me and then over the year it just became harder to get over that feeling. I prayed about these feelings and then the Lord just made it clear to me to homeschool them. Believe it or not, one random evening, my kids asked why I wasn’t homeschooling them. They loved going to school but this was what they wanted and it was on my heart too. Thats how the journey began! I use a lot of the method in my teaching. My children are very independent and we all thrive on order. Truth be told, we do three hours of school every morning. The afternoons are just art, craft, play, extracurricular, etc. We do Bible time, math, language and arts everyday and a loop subject every morning. I do have a super supportive husband who makes things easy when they are not. But, weve honestly not felt drained out or burned this past year. My advice to other parents during Covid times would be to not stress. Since schools might not reopen fully, homeschooling may be a reality for some time. I would encourage parents to not keep looking online for resources/curriculum etc. The more you search, the more youll find and all the more overwhelmed and stressed youd be. Theres just so much out there!! Sometimes its ok for your children to have nothing to do or be bored. Thats when they usually put their minds to use and create. - @desisinvidesh on Instagram

African-American comedian Kinigra Deon originally uploaded a comedy skit back on February 20, 2020, on YouTube. The skit is called “Ki-Mon-Chi Black Asian House” with the caption “where you can find the best blasian cuisine on the market. We give you the best customer service just for $5 more.” . The skit starts off with an African-American couple entering “Blasian House” and requesting a more secluded area. . The African-American female employee dressed in a Chinese outfit speaks in a fake Chinese/Vietnamese accent and replies, “Oh no honey, we very busy, but I do for you $5 more.” . As the female employee sits the couple down, she begins to compliment them on how good they look with each other, all the while saying it in a Chinese/Vietnamese accent and trying to impersonate how a stereotypical Chinese woman walks. However, the African-American female comedian fails to pull it off because of her borderline obese lower-half. . Another female African-American employee shows up, also dressed in a Chinese outfit, speaking in a heavy Chinese/Vietnamese accent, and takes the couples’ order. One of them orders eggrolls. . The first employee then shows up to the table and begins to roll two unbroken eggs over an empty plate, saying “this is how we make eggrolls in our country.” . The couple demands the employees take back their “eggrolls,” to which the employee agrees, but then says “Okay honey, we still charge you, you already make for you.” . As the skit progresses, it shows the employees bringing out food that is absolutely nothing like what the couple ordered at the beginning. As the couple complains about the quality of the food, the restaurant employees racially insult them for complaining. . The employees then communicate with each other in jibberish and condescendingly insults the couple once again for misunderstanding what they hear as more insults. Capital of Slovakia, Bratislava is Charming, walkable, and full of quirky statues to surprise you around each corner. From its 9th century castle, to the Slovak National Museum and the Baroque Gardens on the north side each stunned me. . . To be honest even as I was booking my bus tickets to this place I had no idea what to expect. I barely knew anything about #Slovakia. The city was practically small enough to be just walked around. With endless streets, alleys and buildings to explore, I loved how even the dilapidated and decaying buildings still remained bright and beautiful!. . As I walk down the street they have a very few locals who spoke #English but one thing for sure Slovakian people are just plain special. . . Several months ago an individual casually told me that they didn’t think they would agree with my politics. That may or may not have been true, but I found that statement fascinating more than anything considering that we had never actually had a conversation on this. All they knew is that I have this page and am very vocal about anti-racism education, racial equity and racial reconciliation, so if this is the “politics” that was being referred to it grieves me to think that racism can be dumbed down to partisanship and a “difference of opinions”. My dignity is not up for debate. The way in which white supremacy is woven into our society has to be named and dismantled actively. From believing the lies of ones inherent superiority to oppressive systems and all that lies in between, it negatively impacts everybody. Denounce white supremacy. Denounce it for the evil that it is. Denounce it for the harm that it has created and the damage that persists. Denounce it. Denounce it. Denounce it. It is not an exaggeration to state that lives are on the line. I’ve had a complicated relationship with beauty since I was about 9, maybe even younger. It’s made me feel bad and it’s made me feel good. When Chrystul was 16, she met a 33-year-old white man named Randy Volar. Volar drugged and sexually abused Chrystul multiple times. He filmed it. He then began trafficking her to other adult men on Backpage. She wasn’t the only one. Volar was arrested in February 2018 on charges of child sexual assault and was known to be abusing about a dozen underage black girls. But then, they released him without bail. He remained free until 17-year-old Chrystul, shot him in the head, twice. She lit his body on fire and fled in his car. She remains that he was attempting to rape her when she shot him in the head. She has been in jail for two years awaiting trial. Amazingly, she has been released on a $400,000 bond with the help of advocacy grounds and bail funds. Chrystal is a sex trafficked child who acted in self defense, not an adult who committed premeditated murder. I can’t help but wonder if she was a trafficked white girl if charges would’ve even stuck.
