Fueron muchas las localidades exploradas por este naturalista alemán a lo largo y ancho de la isla de Cuba. A partir de sus observaciones y estudios una buena parte de la fauna cubana quedó referida en diferentes monografías que abarcan casi todos los órdenes zoológicos. En ellas puede encontrarse, desde las características propias de cada especie #animal, con sus descripciones, sinonimia y costumbres, hasta notas que llaman la atención sobre la extinción de algunas y el modo de evitarlo. Quando eu era garoto, em Ipanema, escutava as piadas e gozações a respeito do ensandecido maestro, demente mesmo, um tal de Vira-Loucos. Consta que era maluco. Um dia, mais tarde, apareceu lá em casa um disco, estrangeiro, dos Choros Nº 10, regido pelo maestro Werner Janssen, peça sinfônica com coral misto, obra erudita. Quando o disco começou a tocar eu comecei a chorar. Ali estava tudo! A minha amada floresta, os pássaros, os bichos, os índios, os rios, os ventos, em suma, o Brasil. CATCHING THE LIGHT— As the sun starts setting earlier, I find myself heading outside at the end of the workday to grab as much light before it goes away. Not even 5:30 pm when I took these pics, and the sun was already being blocked by the trees. The waning light is as much a sign of the new season as the changing color of the leaves. Autumn is taking root! As for the clothes, some simple advice: you cannot go wrong with a simple black crewneck top! Add jeans and a pair of black boots and you have an instant outfit! As I learned earlier in the day, a black crewneck also looks great on ZOOM calls. On a much more serious note, I am very sad for my many friends in Louisville, Kentucky. The city is in upheaval following the decision not to indict the policemen involved with the murder of Breonna Taylor. Since there is a character limit for these posts, I can’t fully explain here my ideas about what happened—I urge you to listen to the @nytimes two-part Daily podcast on the Breonna Taylor story for a detailed report—but one thing is certain: since the protests against racial injustice began across the country, the government has done nothing to address the root problems. Shortly before his fifth birthday, the Falkner family relocated to Oxford, where he stayed for much of his life. The Nobel Prize-winning author is best known for his novels that took place in fictional Yoknapatawpha County, which was modeled after Lafayette County, Mississippi.
