My old ass decided to have a mid-life crisis. It was either go out and buy a new, convertible sports car, or do something else wild and crazy. Since Im not fired-up on convertibles and have no money for a sports car, I chose the wild part, and Im already crazy, so that was easy. I planned a backpacking trip. About a year ago, I got the itch to hike the loop around Mt. Hood. I was originally supposed to go with my buddy, Art from Philly, but COVID threw a giant wrench into those plans. So, I went solo. Sometimes you just need to throw a long bomb. Going solo and self supported into the northern woods of New Hampshire made for one of the longest days I’ve ever spent on two wheels. Most of it was overgrown snowmobile trails so the moving slow and full of surprises. It was also the maiden voyage on my @santacruzbicycles highball which performed flawlessly thanks to the quick tune up from @tomtenbiketown. The @theblackbibs kept me riding comfy all day. Mount Robson is so large that it creates its own weather patterns, so much so that this is usually what it looked like, surrounded by its little home of clouds ☁️ . Meet T Bone. Also known as T, Big T, Doofus, Dingus, loveableoaf. And weve only had him 24 hours 😂. Which face is your favorite? I dont think I have enough words to adequately explain all the positive things I have to say about this boy. Hes 88lbs of gentle giant who sits instead of jumps, who kisses and never barks and prances around with his toys. He is so happy and loves to be there with you, cheering you on no matter what youre doing. A+ companion - loves the car, loves the WFH life, loves snacks and walkies. We crossed paths with some really considerate people on this trip. One group was already at this pool of water when we got there at sunset. I had made the mistake of being too optimistic and assumed the 20% chance of rain this evening wouldn’t turn into anything. Since the weather was looking favorable I set up camp in a pretty exposed spot above tree line. I was reading a book, getting ready for bed around 9 when these dark clouds started rolling over the ridge to the west. I quickly finished up and tucked myself into my sleeping bag. Next, this huge thunderstorm rolls in and I thought to myself, I have two options; stick out the storm in my exposed tent or pack up and hike out 3 miles in the storm. I opted for the prior and after my having my tent get hammered with wind and rain I finally fell asleep after the storm let up at 4:30am 😅 - @mickoharevisuals on Instagram

I haven’t posted here in awhile, but we are on the road home after 9 days in the Tetons. The last time we were there as a family was 4 years ago, the summer before my grandparents’ property was sold. For years the kids have asked why I get to go for my retreats but they don’t get to go. It was finally time to bring them back and i booked our cabin a full year in advance. We have had so much travel cancelled but we decided to road trip out there and it was everything I hoped it would be despite Covid. So many images on my memory cards of our adventures in this place that means so much to me. You’ll climb into wildflower meadows dotted with clear blue tarns such as Palmer’s Pond, eventually reaching the “Cascade Divide” with beautiful views of surrounding mountains in the Upper Sowaqua Valley. Directions: Drive Highway-5 east from Hope for 50 km and turn off at Exit # 228 (Britton Creek). The exit ramp leads to an intersection; turn right and drive a short distance before turning left onto the Tulameen FSR. Continue up main road, stay right at 8 km and stay on main road until Jacobson (don’t go left at 26 km) stay right and drive to km 45.8 where the Jacobson Lake Camp is located. Note: the Tulameen FSR has active logging trucks on it. Drive carefully, especially around corners and keep looking ahead to spot logging trucks. Pull over immediately and leave lots of room for the trucks pass safely. Happy #FeatureFriday IDPT!! Meet Greg-- Greg came to IDPT after having his prostate removed due to prostate cancer. Read below to see what he has to say about his experience. Like many men faced with prostate cancer, I chose surgery over radiation as my preferred treatment. I knew ahead of time that after surgery I might have some incontinence. That’s because a guy’s prostate puts extra pressure against the urethra, which helps control his “pee urge,” but prostate cancer surgery removes the prostate altogether. After the surgery, when I discussed this with my urologist who performed the surgery, he told me that occasional leakage is my “new normal” and I would just have to learn to live with it. Well, that wasn’t good enough for me. Just because I got treated for prostate cancer didn’t mean that life as I knew it had to be over. It just meant that I needed to adjust, somehow. My urologist told me that strengthening my Kegel muscles would help, and everything I read said the same thing. But somehow it wasn’t quite enough. One day I found myself running to the bathroom when all I did was stand up. I started thinking, hey, women grow up without a prostate and they figure out how to handle it. What was I not doing correctly? Then I saw an ad for Inner Dynamics. The ad said they could help guys like me who had their prostate removed and still had lingering incontinence issues. I figured I had nothing to lose, so I checked them out. I must say, I was quite impressed with their knowledge of human anatomy. Little did I know that my Kegels can only go so far, and that the trick is to build up all those other little pelvic floor-area muscles that I didn’t even know were there. Climbed Wind Mountain yesterday. This is about 1000 elevation gain in 1.75 miles and the views were worth the realization that I no longer have my PCT trail legs (or cardio). Have you ever tried backpacking? Backpacking is not comfortable, but it is rewarding. It is a moment of deep reflection. I find myself, conversing with myself a lot. Am I hot, am I cold? Is it going to rain? Did I bring my rain cover? Am I going to run into a grizzly? What should I do if I see a bear. I need to catch my breath, I need to exercise more. I just ate some bug… I guess its protein? Why is my bag so heavy? I should have left that extra sweater. But what if it snows? Do we have enough food? I dont think we packed enough food. Weve been hiking for 2 hours, so how is it not even half way there? What kind of vacation is this?! Next vacation we are relaxing by the beach! Shoot, COVID, so no international travel... I need to catch my breath again. Through this discomfort I find so much beauty, determination and self-awareness. As the weather changes without warning and the views of river valleys get more rewarding the higher you get, a hike is a thorough lesson in humility and respect for nature. I’ve become more humbled person! Spending time in the backcountry has humbled me in many ways, whether I am on trails or my everyday life. I am reminded that life continues despite my own problems. The bears still wonder around, the trees still grow, the streams still run. Life moves on. Nature is a raw force. Unfettered and unforgiving. It can take your breath away with the magnificence of a landscape or bring you to your knees with the ruthlessness of a freak storm. I am humbled to experience this beauty, and use the moment to lament. Backpacking has taught me a great way to look at life, to feel my body, to make decisions, to be able to organize my own thoughts, to keep moving forward. If you have experienced backpacking - what has it taught you about yourself or life in general? Things rarely (if ever) go as planned. This has been no exception. The past few weeks have seen an idea evolve from simple to overly-complex to what the hell Mark this is ridiculous back down to okay we just need to find a way to get this done. Well, a few days ago that idea morphed into something I never expected. Today, were heading to the summit of Crystal Mountain at 7000 elevation to film a set at sunset for an upcoming online festival that Im playing. Well have the summit to ourselves, with multiple cameras and drones to capture the epic scenery, and of course some incredible performers. Never in my life did I think Id be filming a set on top of a mountain, much less one with as iconic and breathtaking a view.
