For context, I pay multiple six-figures in taxes annually. Does that mean I have a terrible CPA and don’t know what I’m doing? No. It means I make a lot of money, take all of the the appropriate deductions available to me, and then pay the amount of taxes that are expected for someone in my income bracket. It means, I’m not starting hundreds of businesses that generate no revenue and lose money consistently for the sole purpose of offsetting all of my healthy profits and earned income. Should you take tax deductions and do what you can to lower your tax liability? Sure. But if we want to live in a society that isn’t destroyed by capitalism than we need to normalize wealthy people paying taxes. And yes, wealthy people should be paying more than low-income and middle class people. It’s amazing the comments I receive when I share that I have a six-figure tax bill. As if I’m a chump, a loser and not in the know on how to avoid paying taxes. I have a CPA, a financial planner, a bookkeeper and a CFO. I’m also a lawyer who has actually read significant sections of the tax code. I do not lack in relevant tax knowledge or strategy. I’m just not a fucking scum bag like the asshole in the White House. If we want to create a different world, one where our most vulnerable citizens don’t carry enormous financial burdens so that billionaires and millionaires can avoid paying taxes so they can buy yet another Ferrari, lets reconsider our stance on some of these issues.
