I first met him in 2004 when we started working with The Drones and he became a dear, sweet, sensitive friend full of funny stories usually about his own escapades. He was an incredible drummer and talented musician and his departure leaves a massive hole in our hearts. @thewnailbar turns 5 today. There are a million pictures I could post, but this is hands down one of my favorites. My baby girl & sweet sister. These two drive me to get up every morning and do better, now more than ever. The pandemic is not how we imagined hitting this milestone. The pandemic has changed everything, for all of us. We set out into 2020 with the biggest year in our business to date. We were to open 13 stores total this year. We will get no where close to that number now. But that’s ok, because some day we will reach that number and then far proceed it. We are thankful for our health and family. For our employees, who we lovely deeply. And most of all the community that embraced two sisters with a vision. In so many ways today feels very much like the first day. We have been forced to start over like so many. But as the wise saying goes: “the comeback is always stronger than the setback”. We will make sure we are proof positive of this saying. I was inspired by a dear friend to archive all my posts and just take a break from posting on social media for a while. Instagram has been a place of comparison, envy, and hurt for me. And I fear that my page itself may have sparked some of those emotions in others as well. If at any point I have caused anyone to believe my life is perfect or close to it, I am incredibly sorry. My life is not as put together and polished as the pictures make it seem. They say a picture says a thousand words but it certainly does not tell the full story. Behind all the smiles is a wide array of experiences, definitely some wonderful mountain highs but also extraordinarily deep, dark valleys. Unlike what Instagram pictures depict, I do not know exactly what I am doing with my life nor do I have flawless relationships with friends and family. Life is messy and confusing and hard. I am just as in need of a Savior as everyone else. I am just one beggar who just happened to find the Bread of Life and is pointing other beggars to Him. That being said, I want to step back from posting and being active on social media. I want to have deep, meaningful relationships with people in real life, not just shallow, filtered ones, so please reach out if you want that too! These last few months I have used as a time for me ... some days look better than others some days I wake- up , workout, work and cook dinner maybe even read a book! I call those my productive days . Other days I bake cookies , listen to music loud, dance, and binge watch Netflix. This led me to realizing that some days feel good, some days feel okay, and other days might just feel lost. This realization just made me think ... we are ALL FEELING , FEELING happy, sad, maybe even mad some days . These are uncomfortable times and what brings me comfort is knowing that although our FEELINGS may not all align with one another we are all able to take the time and space to recognize how we are FEELING. We can all benefit from more compassion and vulnerability in this world and I hope after we will all continue that sense of FEELING in our day to day lives. . . . . . عائلتي الفنيّة🎨 . منذ انقضى عيد الفطر وأنا أعمل على موقعي الخاص. فكرة راودتني منذ زمن بعيد وكنت أضعها جانبًا، حتى فَقَدَتِ المواقع الشخصية مجدها ولم تعد ذات قيمة إضافية للأفراد والمتخصصين. لكن الفكرة بقيت عالقة في رأسي، ورأيت في فترة العزل الصحي مناسبة جيدة لنفض الغبار من عليها، فخصصت جزءًا من اليوم للنظر في مواقع الكُتّاب المعروفين، واقتباس الأفكار منها، ورسم مخطط للأبواب وطريقة تنفيذها بأسلوب يعكس شخصيتي، وتجهيز المحتوى والصور، وهكذا. لم أصنع الموقع بمفردي بالطبع، استعنت بشاب ذكي اسمه أيمن كان قد ساعد صديقة لي في بناء موقعها. وقليلًا قليلًا صعد البناء حتى أوشك أن يكتمل. لكني بقيت غير راضية، ولا أعلم من ماذا بالضبط، أزور الموقع وأعود إلى الورق وأنظر في مخططي القديم، يسألني أيمن هل من باب جديد؟ فأجيبه نعم، لكني لا أعلم ما هو! امنحني بعض الوقت حتى وصلت إلى قناعة بأني ربما لن أجد ما أبحث عنه، وربما من الحكمة أن أكتفي بالأبواب الموجودة وأدشن الموقع. كنت على وشك عمل ذلك حين جاءتني دعوة لمتابعة صفحة على الفيسبوك معنية بفنون السينما والتلفزيون (Arabic Cinema and Television Encyclopedia) أنشأها مجموعة من الأكاديميين المتخصصين، لكنها تحتضن فنانين من شتى التخصصات بما في ذلك الرسم التشكيلي ورسم كتب الأطفال. وكان من عادتهم استضافة فنان كل أسبوع في بث حي، يتحدث خلاله عن عمله وتجربته، ويستقبل الأسئلة، ويجيب عليها ويقدم النصائح. ووجدتني أتابع باهتمام كبير، وأفتش في محفظة المقابلات القديمة وأشاهدها كلها، مقابلات لشخصيات لا أعرفها ولا أعرف تخصصاتها ولا أظن طريقي سيتقاطع معها يومًا، لكني كنت منجذبةً لها، ولعوالمها المفعمة بالأصوات والأشكال والألوان، ووجدتني، دون وعي مني، أتذكر وجوه الأطفال الذين التقيتهم أثناء زياراتي للمدارس، وأتذكر أجسادهم الصغيرة المتكورة على الأرض أمامي، وعيونهم الواسعة البراقة وهي تتأمل لوحات القصة التي أحملها بين يدي، ساكنين، منصتين، مذهولين! عندها تذكرت ما أنا مؤمنة به دائمًا، وهو أن نصوص قصص الأطفال لا تصنع هذا المشهد بمفردها، ولا ترسمه أبدًا. وكما لا يكون كِتابُ طفلٍ بدون نصٍّ مدهش وذكي، لا يكون كِتابُ طفلٍ بدون رسْمٍ جميل وآسر. وكما لا يكون كِتابُ طفلٍ بدون كاتبٍ موهوب، لا يكون كِتابُ طفلٍ بدون رسّام مبدع. وانفتح أمامي أخيرًا باب موقعي المفقود. باب السحر والدهشة المطلقة، باب رسّاموا الكتب. حاتم فتحي علي، محمد علي، حسن عامه كن، عبد الرزاق الصالحاني، مريم محمودي مقدم، زينب فيضي، وعظماء آخرون غيرهم سيطلون من ورائه ويغرونكم بالدخول. - @nalozaibi on Instagram

I’m deeply grateful to the families that allow us into their lives such as Heyli’s. Her experience is the experience of most #migrant kids that crossed the US-Mexico border last summer. We went to three different countries to do justice to their story. If you have some time, do watch the #documentary. It gives a detailed explanation of what #asylumseekers go through as far as the financial aspect of their journey and who benefits from it. I am thankful to The @texas_tribune editors and to Jay Root for trusting me with this story. During the summer they were looking for a photo and video journalist from the Rio Grande Valley that was also bilingual. I thank them for making an effort to hire someone local like me and also to my friends for recommending me. I am very excited to have this work published in this week’s @TIME Magazine.
