I still have days💗 Nutrient dense food and teaching others about the benefits of eating well are things I love. I still have days when I binge on the bag of chips. Movement and exercise are things I look forward to in the mornings. I still have days where I choose more sleep instead. It’s been over 100 days since I have had a drink. I still have days where I notice society selling it to me as a good idea. Teaching my girls about fueling their bodies with good food is important to me. This is not something I ever planned on doing because fundamentally I believe in restorative justice as well as not isolating people who have caused harm into their own echo chambers. I believe people can change and grow and that those willing to accept responsibility for their past actions should be given the chance to make amends within their community. However Andy Animal’s statement about his treatment of women posted on the Meltasia and his personal Instagram pages so thoroughly minimized his treatment of women it forced my hand here. He called for change in rock n roll but I read the same excuses he gave me when I approached him directly about his actions four years ago. The same assurances that “the animal” was just a stage name these days. Speaking with other women has made it exceedingly clear this is not the case. To “clear the air” by copping to only the most shallow of one’s transgressions clears nothing. To see people calling this man brave for apologizing for slapping some asses and putting women in “awkward positions” so he can get ahead of the story when there are accounts of stalking, harassment, and breaching the lines of consent with multiple women is appalling and has caused even more pain. He is not brave. Not at all. You can’t have truth and reconciliation without the whole truth. So here’s my part of that truth. *Edit: Andy made his profile private. Thank you to everyone who weighed in there. UP, DOWN, & ALL AROUND Move your three fingers in small circles up with different levels of pressure. Choose easy, medium and then hard while walking your fingers to the next area, instead of lifting them off your boobs. When true introverts start to ask this, you KNOW it’s a thing 😂 There are lots of reasons to be lonely for moms, especially right now: 🤍We are lonely because the group activities we do with our children and families are now limited. 🤍Because we are isolated from friends and family and our usual support systems 🤍Because we have so much on our plate that prioritizing friendships and relationships gets shoved to the bottom of the priority list. But I have to say, with my first being a colic baby, this experience of having a colic baby is very similar to pandemic life in a lot of ways. We couldn’t leave the house, do activities, or go to restaurants. We were isolated to our apartment, exhausted, and overwhelmed. It made becoming a mom nothing like I expected. Through that experience I realized what really made me feel most lonely was feeling like no other moms felt like I did. Thought like I did. Were going through what I was. Eventually, I had one other mom tell me she had a similar experience and it changed my perspective entirely. I felt such relief to FINALLY feel heard and understood. I felt lighter, happier. It’s why I started this Instagram and I hope it’s what this Monday “Still a Good Mom” series in my stories does for many of you. I hope it helps you see this community is full of women like you, feeling like you do, struggling through daily tasks like you, but still working so hard to be the best moms to their kids like you. It’s not how we pictured it, but we aren’t alone in our experience. My university had released a notice saying that it would be conducting a pen and paper examination for third-year students. Okay? But why! Its not just me, but many of my batchmates are stressing out over the issue. But then amid all this uproar, a bigger question hit me! What is the primary purpose of our education system? Is it to impart knowledge and help us with our careers. Or is it to give us marks? Okay maybe as students we are not able to comprehend a need for examination, valid point, there might be reasons beyond our pang of knowledge/awareness. But then whats the dire need of conducting exams offline when they can and for many universities have been conducted online. When there is a safer solution available, why choose the riskier path? Because in a semester where classes barely happened, placement cell went null and void, and offer letters were revoked. Why is conducting the examination the primary issue? And, if it is so important, then why is there a dire need to conduct an offline examination. And, if all of this is all too important and must be done. Why cant we as a stakeholder be given a reason as to why is it so important? These is not a statement its a humble question moulded out of curiosity? - @wuthering_words on Instagram

Before graduating from high school I was already thinking about how I was going to pay for community college. I applied to multiple scholarships even though I barely knew how to write English. I was awarded 4 scholarships which paid for my first two years of community college. 💪🏽 👩🏽🎓 One of the scholarships was from The Mexican Fiesta Organization so one of my duties was to help raise money for future applicants which is why I ended up in the newspaper. And since I didn’t know how to do my hair or makeup, two of my friends helped me get ready! 💇🏾♀️ 💄 Why am I sharing this❓ I’m sharing this because I want to let anyone out there know that anything is possible. We just have to work extra hard to achieve our goals and make anything happen. From @yoursdp: In December 1999, Dr Chee Soon Juan gave a public speech during lunchtime at Raffles Place twice, was convicted and sentenced to a fine but chose to serve time in jail instead. Dr Chee’s actions did spark serious debate over the issue of exercise of freedoms of speech and assembly in Singapore and culminated in an interview done by New York Times (NYT) journalist William Safire. In the NYT interview, the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew said of Dr Chee’s conviction that ‘’ if everybody just turns up at a busy junction at lunchtime and makes a speech and runs around ... there would be pandemonium. We are not that kind of society. The interviewer William Safire then asked Lee if Singapore would set up a place like Londons old Hyde Park Corner. To which Lee replied, Well probably do it. Dr Chee and the SDP also organized a protest rally at Speakers’ Corner during the IMF-World Bank conference in 2006. The police prevented the group from carrying on with their march by forming a human cordon to restrict their movement. When a decision was made for the individuals to walk singly to the intended destination, Suntec City, the officer in charge relented but changed his mind as soon as the individuals began walking. This event was documented by Martyn See in a film entitled speakers cornered, available free on YouTube. Further protests with placards were done in 2007 by John Tan, Dr Chee, Ms Chee Siok Chin and Gandhi Ambalam against the government’s business ties and arms deals with the Burmese military junta led by General Than Shwe who had in 2007 murdered the monks of the ‘Saffron Revolution’ in cold blood on the streets of towns and cities, as well as the Tak Boleh Tahan protests in 2008 to highlight the skyrocketing costs of living and inequality in Singapore. Realising the moral imperative of freedom of speech and assembly in the backdrop of more protests and prison terms, then PM Goh Chok Tong finally relaxed the restrictions on Speakers’ Corner to allow for protests to be conducted at the venue - @jwham on Instagram

All year, weve been looking back at ENA history through Throwback Thursdays. Today, we want to take a moment and recognize the efforts of ENA members on Sept. 11, 2001, in a #FlashbackFriday. Following the news reports that fateful morning, ENA members did what emergency nurses do best. They sprang into action. Members heading to Orlando, Florida, for that years annual conference changed directions and headed Northeast to volunteer their time and efforts to those in need in New York City. General Assembly and the Annual Scientific Assembly were canceled due to the disruption in the travel industry. The attacks caused 150 emergency departments to be affected by incoming patients. CFS is short for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and M.E. is also short for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis. Cfs/m.e affects 250,00 people in the uk and 17 million people around the world today, living inside a body with cfs and m.e is honestly the most horrific thing. Cfs/m.e is a horrible illness that is constantly attacking every part of your body, cfs leaves you feeling extremely exhausted, unbearable fatigue all the time, nausea, weakness, eye sensitivity, sound sensitivity, joint and muscular pain, cfs leaves you house bound, bed bound, the list of symptoms is endless. I always feel like I’m forever dragging my body through day to day life, with no energy and fighting awful symptoms every minute of the day. I was diagnosed with cfs at 13 years old, so it will be 11 years this year that I’ve been battling with cfs, growing up I didn’t know anyone that was going through the same thing, except my lovely mum who is also a cfs fighter, so I’m also speaking for my mum too today ❤️ for a long time I thought I was the only one, until social media was invented. Through social media, I have got to know so many wonderful people who are going through exactly the same thing, in so many ways social media has saved my life. Spreading awareness and doing posts like these I believe your all making a huge difference in people’s lives, and that’s what so many of us need is just to be heard, always listened to, and understood. Cfs comes with so many burdens, trials, and difficulties, juggling your illness and your life at the same time is never an easy thing, but through all of this we will find each other, find true friends, find a loving community, and someday we will find happiness again. I made this hoop in case someone needed to hear it. It wasn’t your fault if you were dealt a shitty hand, or if you had to become a survivor from someone else’s actions. I made this 2020 hoop for someone else because so much has been out of control with the pandemic but today it felt like it was for me. I have severe OCD that is usually controlled but today I had a full panic that ended in me calling my mother because I was scared I set the oven on fire and had completely forgotten what to do to address it. It’s the first time in a long while I’ve been so uncontrolled. I’m still shaken but with some guidance I dealt with if. So I suppose that brings me to the big point- it isn’t your fault you have a mental illness or other issue. But it is your responsibility. She’s independent, but she also has some flaws, such as her fear to fall in love. Meg is the perfect princess to show that we don’t need to be perfect. If anyone is struggling with this idea of perfection, I understand to some degree. I have way too high of expectations for myself sometimes, and my need to be perfect sometimes leaves me less confident in my abilities. Last summer, as I was walking back home from one of @careercurious’s events in Shoreditch, I felt a sparkle in my heart. I know you might think its such a cliché but I had never felt anything similar before (until I hosted my first face-to-face workshops a few weeks ago ✨).⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ By meeting other women and listening to their stories I realised that I wasn’t alone. That many other women out there were experiencing the same issues I was going through. They were stuck in a job that wasn’t fulfilling but they were unable to quit, looking for a new career but didn’t know where to start, craving for more creative time to cultivate their passions but couldn’t make the time or all of the above.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a passionate storyteller and storycatcher, I asked myself: what if I create a space for women writers like me to simply write and just be themselves? Without having someone to validate how good their writing is and whether they can call themselves writers.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I couldn’t find the job I wanted and I had already wasted so much time and energy so it was time to do things differently. It was time to literally create the job of my dream, for me and for other women like me. And there it was, my sparkle, my purpose beating loudly again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Virginia Wolf’s book A Room of One’s Own and her famous quote about giving women a room of their own to write fiction were my main inspirations. The quote also mentions about money and I’m well aware that having financial stability is extremely important too.
