These last few months I have used as a time for me ... some days look better than others some days I wake- up , workout, work and cook dinner maybe even read a book! I call those my productive days . Other days I bake cookies , listen to music loud, dance, and binge watch Netflix. This led me to realizing that some days feel good, some days feel okay, and other days might just feel lost. This realization just made me think ... we are ALL FEELING , FEELING happy, sad, maybe even mad some days . These are uncomfortable times and what brings me comfort is knowing that although our FEELINGS may not all align with one another we are all able to take the time and space to recognize how we are FEELING. We can all benefit from more compassion and vulnerability in this world and I hope after we will all continue that sense of FEELING in our day to day lives. . . . . . My beautiful, talented, funny friend Mike passed away suddenly yesterday and I am heartbroken. I first met him in 2004 when we started working with The Drones and he became a dear, sweet, sensitive friend full of funny stories usually about his own escapades. He was an incredible drummer and talented musician and his departure leaves a massive hole in our hearts. We saw him just this last January in Hobart and I’m so grateful for the night we had together where we got to share a meal and stay overnight with him. Vale Mike. Love you always. Maybe they’re trying Maybe they can’t Maybe they haven’t found someone they want to raise a child with yet. Maybe they’re contemplating going going solo. Here’s a thought; MAYBE they just don’t want too. *Shock. Horror. So much intimacy, privacy and anonymity is stripped from you when you’re going through infertility or the adoption process. Having to ask your boss for next Thursday off so they can check if the old womb lining is thick enough or because you’re about to go into a panel room and await their decision is invasive enough without people asking crap like this. No ones running into the office shouting “we had sex last night, we’re trying for a baby!” are they? I dunno, are they? If they are you might want to contemplate moving desks. The only announcement they might have to make is 3 months later. This question can be a wildly emotional and mentally destructive question for people. Never judge. Never assume Maybe. Wanna know a thought that crept into my mind this morning? It was this: “I wish I was still in school so I didn’t have to face looking like a failure without a full time (teaching) job.” The truth is, that sometimes I just feel plain embarrassed to say that I nanny part time and substitute teach whenever I can find an assignment that works with my schedule. It’s not exactly the kind of high achieving I’m used to. And the enemy knows how easily I can tie my worth and my identity to what I can accomplish. But this morning, I’m not letting that lie from the enemy steal my joy or my hope. No! This morning, I’m declaring the truth of these words I painted for a friend, and I’m declaring God’s promises over myself. I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth! I won’t be shaken by a season of waiting. He’s my rock & salvation. . . God knew my tired soul and my tired eyes needed a lot of rest in the year following the completion of my credential program. And this is what he’s so graciously provided for me. I have joy in knowing the Lord has supplied ALL of my needs and then some!! I’m not any more or any less based on what I do, (or don’t do), and neither are you sweet friend. I’m fully and eternally loved because I’m a child of God! I can bring as much glory to him changing diapers as I can teaching a math lesson. And so that’s what I’ll do. I’ll trust him while I wait and I’ll be found faithful to steward whatever he’s given me well. It also wouldn’t be particularly uncommon to imagine a man as the one in this position. ⁠ ⁠ But, as Catholics, we can take one look at the teachings of the Church and another at the history of female saints, and it is clear that holy, virtuous leadership often doesn’t even look like what it’s described as above. ⁠ ⁠ Being a leader doesnt necessarily entail grand gestures and large audiences. Actual comment I had received a few weeks ago on a blog post with ethically-made dresses, but it’s a typical one for me. It’s always along the lines of ‘$100?!! I can buy that cheaper somewhere else’. I immediately get frustrated, but then I have to realize how our views of clothing and fashion have changed over the years. It’s no longer given the value it once had because we’ve been taught it’s okay for it to be cheap and disposable 🥴 . . . People say that sustainable fashion is only for those who have money, but that’s not true. Sustainable fashion comes in all forms - it’s what you already have, it’s beautiful vintage pieces, it’s a clothing swap with your friends, it’s a great sale piece from an ethical brand. Sure, most new sustainable fashion garments have a heavier price tag but that’s because makers are finally being treated the way they should!! If we continue this path of purchasing cheap, we continue supporting poverty. However; if you can afford a new piece from a sustainable fashion brand, please do it. Like so many self-employed/freelance professionals, I’m thinking of how best to utilise my time right now to create new work and an income from home. Lately, my work has taken on a slightly more spiritual and philosophical quality, which is an extension of my recent life experiences. So, today, I begin a new photo project entitled, ‘Homemade Love Letters’. This project is as much for each of you as it is for myself. Considering that the businesses that support my artistic practice are closed (film processing/printing lab and local transport systems), I am creating unique and personal artworks at home for anyone interested—for anyone in need of a little love (we all are, in one way or another). If you would like one, please DM me or write to me at kushwah.vikram@gmail.com
I will then take a photograph for you (only for you), print it on half of an A4 sheet, and on the other half, I will write something personal for you. This could be something I’m thinking of while taking the picture or even about the current situation. You could also write something to me and I could respond to it; you can ask or say anything you want. Here’s an artwork I created today as an example. Again, the artwork I create for you will never be reproduced for anybody else, meaning it’s a limited edition of only one!

The price of an artwork is £20 for within the UK and £25 for anywhere else in the world.

Hawaii COVID rules are putting the pressure on us. I’m in a mandatory 14Day isolation chamber (of my own choice since I left the islands)- but that doesn’t take the emotional stress off of my children- it’s quite a strange feeling, especially since we are a traveling family and have been away from each other for even a month at a time. This kind of invisible safety border was one I was hoping not to feel, but boy do I feel it. Especially when my son or daughter just need a hug. My whole body is in revolt even as I write this. ALL the families that have been separated this year- I FEEL YOU. For all the relationships and partnerships that have been separated- I totally feel you. I hope you all have someone or something close to you that fills you with great joy to get you through these times. ♥️ Reach out to those that may be alone, in need of food or a prayer. I’m deeply grateful to the families that allow us into their lives such as Heyli’s. Her experience is the experience of most #migrant kids that crossed the US-Mexico border last summer. We went to three different countries to do justice to their story. If you have some time, do watch the #documentary. It gives a detailed explanation of what #asylumseekers go through as far as the financial aspect of their journey and who benefits from it. I am thankful to The @texas_tribune editors and to Jay Root for trusting me with this story. During the summer they were looking for a photo and video journalist from the Rio Grande Valley that was also bilingual. I thank them for making an effort to hire someone local like me and also to my friends for recommending me. I am very excited to have this work published in this week’s @TIME Magazine. We cannot change the present as easily as we can with the future. We cannot change the past at all. Therefore, the only solution is to look forward to what’s about to happen. And what’s about to happen is unpredictable - it can either be good or bad. By looking so much into the future, we forget where we are and who we are at the present. I think we love the future so much because we imagine it to be better than what we have right now. It’s fun to imagine a future full of love, happiness, and dreams. But don’t forget where you are right now because sometimes the present you have at this moment is one that you’ll miss the most when you get to the future. The FUTURE WILL HAPPEN.
