Week 149: Cleaned the beach with the BMC staff this morning. The influx of garbage from the Mithi river is overwhelming. It’s shocking that in all these years, the governments so far have not been able to devise and execute a well thought through, scientific, time-bound plan to solve the Mithi crisis. The need of the hour is a filtration system at the confluence of Mithi river and the Sea at Mahim. And recycling of all the plastic found on the beach so it doesn’t go to the landfills. As citizens, we urgently need to change our behaviour and relook at our plastic consumption. We need to REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE. Stay consistent and committed. Take up civic action. Save our oceans and marine animals. Since the on start of Covid-19 restrictions in Brunei, we received quite a few reports on ghost net sightings at our reefs (reports coming in at least once a month!). While many of us remain at home, some took the opportunity to head out to sea, casting nets over large areas including those of restricted zones. Whether or not they are for commercial purpose or leisure, we need to understand that these nets when left abandoned may get stuck on reefs or any hard surface along the seabed. This eventually damage or kill literally any marine lifes that get caught on them. Throughout this period, a team of heroes set out to sail to retrieve nets from the sea. Despite working in small numbers, these heroes managed to retrieve quite a huge amount of nets (on record, up to 36kg of trawling nets in one session!). On Wednesday evening just after dusk, the International Space Station will fly directly over Orlando, will be visible to anyone in the Southeast, and provide a nice break in these long days as it races through space at 17,100 miles per hour -- which is about five miles a second (nearly as fast I drove in high school). Watching it is always a fun activity for families and all you have to do is look at this map to see where it will be and when. Follow the path of the arrows and then look at the time in the 24-hour format. If you live within the circle (and the skies are clear) just watch for a very bright star moving steadily across the sky from the southwest to the northeast. The ISS and its crew will be at an altitude of 250 miles (yes, you can see that far) and will be crossing Mexicos Yucatan Peninsula around 9:11 Eastern Time and will be visible for about six minutes before going around the earth somewhere east of New Jersey having covered about 2,000 miles in that time. - @hike_it_florida on Instagram

The coldest part of the mass of air will arrive after midday so the morning will still warm. In fact, its expected 15 °C at 9 AM and only 10 at 3 PM. Maine has only had 8 landfalling hurricanes and all of them came from the southwest. Sailing update. SV Ever After. Current location, Bodega Bay CA. 740 miles logged. Approximately 500 to go to San Diego. Long passages between ports. Lack of sleep. Constant fog. Rolling seas. Seasick crew member. Heavy smoke and ash from Oregon fires.. Electrical charging issues being addressed. Burning more diesel than we planned. Motored 90% since Labor Day. None the less... Promising days ahead. Anticipate we sail into the Bay Area under the Golden Gate on Sunday. Family and friends coming to meet us. That gives us some encouragement. Shorter passages and friendly sails ahead. In summary theres a reason theres not a lot of sailors north of San Francisco on the left coast. This has been the biggest challenge weve undertaken in quite some time. Weve learned, accomplished and overcome. Its been worth the journey.
