DEAR (insert gossip mag of choice here).... Just a quick question from my kids: why, in a time of #pandemic, #economic disaster and #climate crisis would you waste valuable column inches on a #story about their #Mum wrestling with a giant @Pepapig colouring book? While it didn’t rank as high in the scale of ‘complete irrelevance’ as that time you published 18 pics of me carrying a box of @sultanabran it was still a letdown after the dizzying heights of having my ‘clean laundry’ aired while you pictorially raked over the coals of my relationship (much to the humiliation of my #babies) or followed me to a secluded river with a long lens to capture a #kiss with my partner. Sure, these gushing revelations had the desired ‘clutch my pearls, reach for the pandadol’ effect, But this last story? #Why? I’ve a D-grade #celebrity diva reputation to uphold!!! These images look so...normal..flattering even! Where’s the awkward angle? The cellulite? The imminent #trainwreck ??? I know there exists an uneasy symbiosis between #media and ‘stars’ (mind you I’m about as stellar as a black hole these days) but I’d just ask, next time you receive a tip from an ‘insider’ or ‘close friend’ coupled with a clutch of personal pics, remember there is another #human on the other side of that long lens. In my case, a Mum, currently #unemployed, who takes on no #sponsorships or #endorsements but tries hard to give back rather than give up. I’m active on social media, sure, because I love sharing stories WITH PERMISSION. Over the years I’ve had to offer many uncomfortable explanations of the salacious tales you’ve spun about me to my little tribe, but explaining why their coloring book made it to press left even me scratching my head.... these seemingly small intrusions lead quickly to large intrusions and any one persons private moments are just that and only that..PRIVATE. But I do understand. So, here’s my suggestion: any time you wanna use those precious column inches to discuss #homelessness , regenerating #rainforests , the plight of #refugees or the #sexualexploitation of #children you know where I am. I wanted to do a big post of everyone I have loved this decade. But while finding photos I cried and remourned the close friends I have lost, cried due to the stress of a whole new year, and cried for me a decade ago. Remembering how it felt to believe yourself as an unlovable object at such a young age. My biggest regrets of the decade is pushing people away and being self-absorbed. But I saw a psych, found communities, came out countless times, learnt what love is supposed to feel like, learnt what recovery feels like. This year was particularly wack; moved out,figured out the gender thing, left an amazing relationship that met its end, tried studying again, travelled to the middle east and have made so many new friendships that make me feel comfortable and capable. I wont make resolutions, I will simply treat myself the way I wish 12 year old me was treated. As an impenetrable force who is made out of love 10 photos didnt capture everyone whos supported and loved me so have a picture of me in 2010 and 2020. In many European countries, including Germany, throwing away garbage is a costly affair. Whether it’s based on weight, volume, or some other system, it’s a way to cut down on the physical amount that people throw away. And I have to wonder, should we implement something like that here in America? So how would it work? Weighing scales? Measuring sticks? Special bags or containers? Well, on the website Reddit, a user called Nachteule breaks down one such service that’s employed in Germany. It basically uses different colored trash barrels for different kinds of trash. Here’s how Nachteule describes it: The Braune Tonne/Biotonne (brown trash barrel) for compost The Blaue Tonne/Papiertonne (blue trash barrel) for paper and cardboard The Gelbe Tonne/Gelber Sack (yellow trash sack/barrel) for plastic packaging The Graue Tonne/Restmüll (grey trash barrel) for trash that cant be recycled (for example a broken small electrics like a watch or a toaster, cold ashes, broken ceramics...) There is also a public service that will get old clothes that are still wearable to support homeless persons and January there is also the Weihnachtbaumabholung — thats the day they will collect your old Christmas tree for free. Each trash barrel has a fee based on the size and color. For instance, the grey 16-gallon trash barrel, for unusable garbage, costs around $140/year.
