The HLPUSD School District is transitioning from at-large elections to by-trustee area elections. This means the district will form 5 different boundaries and the elected officials must live within the set area and will represent the schools in the boundary while also moving policies forward that are great for the entire district. This is great for residents of La Puente (both incorporated and unincorporated) because there could be more representation but only IF the map scenario that’s chosen covers a good portion of the LP area and makes equitable sense. Today is the last day to make public comment on the 6 maps. We’ve added the link in our bio for you to review the maps. We encourage all residents to review the maps and voice your perspective at the public hearing today. Community members are invited to share their perspectives on the maps and the sequence of elections at a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 at the District Office, 15959 E. More Businesses and Services Can Reopen in Contra Costa Thanks to Improving COVID Situation Thanks to recent progress being made in the fight against COVID-19 in Contra Costa, indoor restaurants, gyms, movie theaters, massage parlors and places of worship may now open with restrictions in the county. The changes come after the county qualified to move into the less restrictive red tier (“substantial”) of the state’s four-tiered, color-coded reopening system today. Contra Costa had been in the state’s purple or “widespread” tier, the most restrictive tier. Moving into the red tier means the following sectors can reopen with modifications: • Places of worship, restaurants, movie theaters and museums can be operated indoors at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is less • Gyms can reopen indoors at 10% capacity • All personal care services, including massage, can move indoors • Indoor shopping malls can operate at 50% maximum occupancy (instead of 25%). Food courts can also open following the state’s guidelines for restaurants. • Indoor retail stores can now operate at 50% capacity (instead of 25%) Elementary and secondary schools can reopen for in-person instruction on Oct. 13 if the county remains the red tier for two more weeks. Currently, elementary schools can apply for a waiver from the health officer to reopen. Health officials encourage essential workers and people with lots of close contacts outside their own household to get tested for COVID at least monthly. Businesses and other organizations should review their applicable industry guidance for reopening safely from the state. When I started System Failure 01, my intention was for it to be a continuation of the Glitch Series, however, it evolved into something new. The image used was still sourced from a glitch image, however, this time I intentionally left parts of the cross-stitch unfinished. By doing so, I’ve created a glitch within a glitch. Although the work is made by hand, it’s reminiscent of a digital image that was disrupted, due to a “system failure” and was unable to load properly.
