*15 Years of Nurturing Highlight* Although awards are never the reason we do what we do, it is very humbling for us to have our work acknowledged and in some ways a comfort for the community we are trying to build trust in. Some of the more memorable awards of our 15 years of Nurturing include our first award in 2008, the NSW Government Community Service Award when Morris Iemma was Premier. The following year Miracle Babies won the 2009 Bicentenary Order of Liverpool Award. In 2010 @melindacruz_ received a nomination for NSW Woman of the Year, and also won the 2010 Liverpool Citizen of the Year award. That same year we also celebrated Andrea Hendry taking home the Liverpool Volunteer of the Year award as well. In 2011 Melinda Cruz won the Ernst & Young Australian Social Entrepreneur of the Year award. “With this award we grew up as an organisation and people started to take notice,” Melinda Cruz. It was an exciting year, because Melinda went on to win the Westpac Ruby Connections award and was included in the Whos Who of Australian Women. More recently, we won the 2019 ACTA (Australian Clinical Trials Alliance) Consumer Involvement Award. Dear World, On September 8th, 2001, I celebrated my 8th birthday. I got a sparkly purple bike and the matching helmet I asked for. Three days later, on September 11th, 2001, two planes flew into the World Trade Center and killed my father. Those two planes brought down one of the world’s largest buildings and my father with it but those two planes did not bring me down. In the moment, it felt like my entire world had literally shattered in an instant. The immense loss I experienced and still feel today cannot be expressed in words alone. My father was the best person I have ever known and though he was taken from me on that day, nothing and no one will ever be able to take way the eight years and two days of my life that I shared with him. After my father died, and after I lost so much, I promised myself that I would never lose who I am as a person - the person that my father brought me up to be. Life is far too unpredictable and far too temporary to live it for anyone but yourself. No person has an expiration date, I could die in seventy years or seventy hours from now and that is something that I know I can not control. Something I can control, however, is my life in this moment and what I choose to do with it. Experiencing great loss can leave a person with a feeling of emptiness and lack of purpose but it is within the power of the individual to overcome such adversity and live life with passion. Though I lost so much ten years ago, I also gained life lessons that I would never have learned otherwise. I learned to live my life without a single regret. I learned to live for today rather than tomorrow. I will admit that there are many things I do not know about this world we live in but I do know that the uncertainty of life is indeed certain. Вот они и настали, мои нежданные 40 лет 😁 Когда проходишь десятилетие за десятилетием, невольно соглашаешься с мыслью, что каждый возраст прекрасен по-своему, это действительно так! Понимаешь, что таким каким был прежде, тебе уже не быть и знаете, слава богу, скажу я вам! Люблю и принимаю себя сегодняшнюю.... наконец-то! Это был путь к себе длиною в сорок лет! И нет, я не стала краше, стройнее и тп, мудрее, скорее всего, тоже не стала, но пришли другие ценности на смену того, что казалось важным. И это так легко теперь говорить и думать так... иначе и без натяжки, просто потому, что действительно знаешь, что есть важно, а что мусор и шумовые помехи. Всегда была открытым, откровенным и искренним человеком, и нет, жизнь меня не поломала, не показала, что это путь неверный, потому что посмотри, люди злы и корыстны, они не упустят возможности тебя использовать или опустись на землю, зачем ты всех идеализируешь, они не такие... когда я слышала такие советы раньше, мне хотелось до хрипоты в горле убеждать, что они заблуждаются, а теперь... А теперь я просто улыбаюсь и думаю, как жаль, что вы не видите так, как вижу я. Мы все такие разные, такие полные всего и только нам самим решать, какие наши внутренние богатства мы будем доставать наружу, чтобы делиться ими, чтобы умножать их в сто крат и становиться ещё богаче... Что еще... с годами осознаешь об ещё одной очень важной ценности - возможности выбора с кем быть, дружить и общаться. Казалось бы, что тут нового. А вы задумывались, что человек, с которым вам неудобно научит вас чему то, чему точно не научит тот кто любит вас безвозмездно и с кем вам просто и легко? Ведь так и есть. Один мой друг мне сказал сегодня, что я человек, который отдает гораздо больше, чем получает взамен. Возможно так и выглядит со стороны, но как можно увидеть как и чем от этого заполняется моя душа?
