I meet my friend A.J. Ali and his crew at the national prayer breakfast in DC earlier this year and was touched by there story and what they were able to teach me about an issue I was so blind to. At Tuesday’s meeting, NDP education critic Claudia Chender addressed growing angst among parents and school staff about the reopening plan, calling the 36-page document an outline that prioritizes safety in schools but lacks essential operational detail. Chender put forward a motion to the all-party committee that the group write a letter to Education Minister Zach Churchill asking for the department to provide numbers on school classrooms able to meet social distancing requirements and its communication plan with teachers, staff and parents. The Dartmouth South MLA also asked that the minister release the results of school ventilation testing that began earlier this month. The province pledged to assess ventilation systems in all schools before reopening on Sept. 8 and last Thursday Churchill said no issues had been found in any schools tested at that point. Chender’s motion received unanimous support from her three fellow opposition members, NDP Kendra Coombes and Tories Brad Johns and Larry Harrison but the motion was defeated by a unanimous Liberal vote, including chairman Brendan Maguire, vice-chairwoman Suzanne Lohnes-Croft, Bill Horne, Rafah DiCostanzo and Ben Jessome. . . . Support our arrested comrade! On Saturday night, our comrade Forrest was arrested at a demo in Oakland and taken to Santa Rita jail. Members of the Oakland Builders Collective have been doing jail support for him with the help of the NLG and other amazing people from our communities. Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out in concern for Forrest and his friends, family, and comrades. Here is the info we are able to share now about his arrest, along with asks we are making to our community! Forrest is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday. His bail is set for $50,000. Legal support is already arranged. He has decided to NOT be bailed out at this time. Instead, Forrest wants all funds and energy that could potentially go to his bail/court support to instead go towards: 1. supporting others who have been arrested and will be arrested at future demos; prioritizing more vulnerable arrestees e.g. black trans women 2. building funds and organizing for community self defense. The best way that YOU can help to support Forrest and the work he is doing is by organizing towards that community self defense. 1. Attention Muay Thai community. This post has been brought to my attention and I thought I should clear this up. The guy who posted it, is giving half the story, and making it out like I’m dodging him when that is not the case at all. I was scheduled to fight Chris Culley Over a year ago for my retirement fight, I get a call the night before weigh in saying he can’t make 160 and they tell me the new weight is 165. I say no problem....then the next morning I get a call saying he checked himself into the hospital because he’s having problems and can’t make 165, they say he can’t even make 170 and the fight gets scrapped. Then this guy, the class act that he is starts bashing my camp, talking about how much better he is than me and he’d have knocked me out(this amateur couldn’t even make weight). I decided after that disaster that I’m probably not fighting again. Now a year and half later I’m thinking of fighting again in February and this entitled pos thinks that he deserves the fight after HE COULDNT MAKE IT TO THE FIRST FIGHT! Why on earth would I ever give him the chance to not only embarrass himself but embarrass me by not showing up again? I want everyone to chime in, do I owe this guy another chance at a fight? If I take another one it won’t be with a guy that can’t control his weight. I fight professionals that can make weight, not amateurs that blame missing weight on medical problems. You blew your shot homie! Be a man and except that you fucked up and missed weight not me. And all that running around saying I’m picking my fights 😂😂😂 yeah bro, that’s what I did my whole career, took easy fights. Posers will be posers ladies and gentlemen, make sure you go and ask Chris Culley why the original fight on triumphant didn’t happen. The truth will reveal its self. Something really cool happened Friday. I woke up to a online newspaper article from my hometown paper about my travel nurse journey! It was even written by a fellow classmate, John Hamilton, which made it even better! He is such a talented journalist and writer and did a fantastic job with the article. Saturday, I woke up to a pic in my inbox from another former hometown classmate that the article was on the front page of the print newspaper! This turned out to be an extremely wise move, as a journalist managed to illegally acquire a copy of our son’s birth certificate from the registry office. A spectacular feat, given we hadn’t even received the very first copy ourselves. The same newspaper that has run your misguided rantings also published the full details from that birth certificate online. May I respectfully ask you to butt out and mind your own business? WASHINGTON (ABC7) — While food trucks once lined D.C. streets by the dozens, no more. With so many people working from home, few of the trucks bother to come out.But there’s at least one exception, the “Jerk at Nite” food truck that parked at 11th and H, NE even before the virus struck. It’s owned by former Howard University students, who in 2015 actually started cooking Jerk Chicken and other Jamaican dishes in a dorm room, advertising through social media and delivering to other students.“It grew into a food truck, that was around 2017, 2018,” said one of the owners, Kadeem Todd, adding “it went from one food truck to two food trucks.” _ Now if you look at the corner of 11th and H where they park, you’ll see their red, black and green colors also on the corner building, which they are currently renovating to turn into a restaurant with outdoor seating. How have they been so successful in a time of COVID? Nadia Myrie, sister of one of the co-owners and a food truck manager says its thanks to the customers. _ “Our loyal customers, that really is it. We have a lot of loyal customers,” said Myrie. Todd says they’re different from many other food trucks. “They weren’t trying to create a brand around their food,” said Todd. _ “I feel like we made a concerted effort to always reach out to our customers and make them follow us on social media.” They say many of their customers at 11th and H are former Howard University students or their frat brothers from Omega Psi Phi and many other social media acquaintances they’ve made along the way. _ A customer we saw in line for food, Jordan Uwhuvetine, told us the owners are his frat brothers and though he lives in Virginia, “Every time I’m in D.C., I come to the food truck. I love Jerk at Nite!” They say they plan to have their sit-down “Jerk at Nite” restaurant open by late October. Does that mean they will retire the food trucks? _ Said Todd, “We can’t abandon our bread and butter!
