What do I usually eat for breakfast on OMS? 🌱...since I started OMS over 4 years ago breakfast has mainly been either porridge (oatmeal). I do 1 cup organic oats, with 1/2 cup of frozen mixed berries and water cooked till it thickens. Then I add toppings, I always have chia seeds everyday in either the burcha I make or chia pudding, fresh fruit and some dry burcha mix sprinkled on top with either maple syrup or honey.If I dont feel like oats Ill make an açai bowl with 2 frozen açai smoothie packs, 2 medium to large frozen spotty bananas 🍌, 1 tbsp flaxseed oil and a few splashes of coconut water, I throw that all in my nutri bullet and blend till smooth. Then I top with burcha and fresh fruit also, same as my porridge. That keeps me going for a few hours. Ive spent months off bread but its slowly slipped back in, lately Ive been feeling like avocado 🥑 and marmite on toast, might be a kiwi thing but its yumm!. Just depends what Im feeling like on the day as to what I have, summer is usually açai bowls, winter is usually toast or porridge. Če te med obroki preganja lakota, lahko po potrebi v svoj dnevni jedilnik dodaš še eno ali dve vmesni malici. Part 2/2:⠀ 📊 When evaluating foods as healthy (health promoting) or inflammatory (disease promoting) one should consider a few factors:⠀ ⠀⠀ 🌱 How nutrient dense is the food?⠀ 🌱 How much anti-oxidants, phytonutrients, and other micronutrients?⠀ 🌱 How many inflammatory metabolites are produced by the gut biome?⠀ 🌱 What hormonal impact will there be? EX: Glycemic load⠀ 🌱 What is the proportion of fatty acids? Omega-3/Omega-6⠀ ⠀⠀ 🍒 A fruit for example contains a ton of vitamins, anti-oxidants, fiber which stabilizes blood sugar, but no saturated fat and cholesterol. After digestion by the stomach and the pancreas, the health benefits continue, because it gets fermented by the gut microbiome and produces short-chain fatty acids which further promote health. ⠀⠀ 🥩 A piece of meat contains saturated fat (increases your blood sugar), cholesterol (a risk factor for heart disease), endotoxins, heme iron (causes oxidative damage), but it has protein and some other micronutrients.⠀ ⠀⠀ 🍔 But perhaps the most inflammatory effect of meat comes from its metabolism by the gut microbiome which leads to the production of Trimethylamine Oxide (TMA) which traverses the colon wall and enters the circulation. TMA converts to TMAO which causes vascular disease. Think of it as the molecule that “digs holes” into the blood vessels opening the door for cholesterol to come inside the blood vessels and close your arteries, which causes a heart attack, impotence, and stroke.⠀ ⠀⠀ 🧀 What else beside meat causes TMAO production and has a lot of saturated fat which increases cholesterol and blood glucose? Sams favourite ⁠⠀ 🍫CHOCOLATE PROTEIN OVERNIGHT OATS🍫⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 🥰So I made protein overnight oats for Sam last autumn, this week I realised, its been a year now that he craves these every morning and rarely, only on some Saturdays, would agree to have something different with me for breakfast😳 ⁠⠀ It must be a good sign so I thought Ill share this recipe ASAP☺️ ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Its: ⁠⠀ 🍫Easy to meal-prep a few days in advance ⁠⠀ 🍫Quick to make ⁠⠀ 🍫Healthy ⁠⠀ 🍫Full of protein and energy ⁠⠀ 🍫Delicious! ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 40g oats ⁠⠀ 2-3 scoops of @proteinworld (chocolate or vanilla flavour) ⁠⠀ 1 tbsp chia seeds ⁠⠀ 1 cacao powder ⁠⠀ 200 ml almond milk ⁠⠀ Frozen cherries, blueberries, raspberries (30g each) ⁠⠀ Mixed nuts ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 🥣Simply mix all the ingredients together and leave in the fridge overnight. My heart is exploding with SO much love and gratitude 💛 Not only the last 24 hours, but truly the last year of my life has been so eye opening and life changing. For those who have been following me for a little while, you may know I run an online health and wellness business alongside study and work! It’s the most beautiful opportunity I’ve ever said yes and I count my lucky stars everyday I followed my heart rather than the thoughts in my head that screamed “Don’t do that! No one else is doing that, don’t stray from the crowd it’s not ‘normal’ !” It breaks my heart to know and personally see so many beautiful hearts hide their MASSIVE potential just to ‘fit in’. I have sure as hell not discovered everything to know about myself yet but I’m so thankful I’m not where I used to be! If I could tell my younger self anything it would be to just be YOU. I was so much more uncomfortable trying to be someone I wasn’t, trying to ‘fit in’ and follow the crowd, than the feeling of comfort and freedom I am now living. It’s not selfish to put yourself first and chase your own dreams rather than work really hard for the rest of your life to peruse someone else’s! Never feel bad for outgrowing people, things and places that had the chance to grow with you! Working hard for something you don’t care about, is called stress.
