It’s been hard to wrestle with the emotions I have been feeling the past 24 hours. Our brother, @reekspeaks , has left us. The world is worse off with his passing. There is no way to for me to sugarcoat or see this loss as anything other than fucking tragic and brutally unfair. Everyone who knows Reek knows how incredibly joyful, supportive, intelligent, and kind he is/was. Truly, a universally loved guy in this ever so divisive world... I can’t really make sense of this. Just Tuesday we were talking about SNL and the Brooklyn Nets. Our last riff together was him sending me a picture of a middle aged Rodney Dangerfield sitting in a high school classroom. He was roasting me for the fact that I’m back in classes at USC. That was the kind of friendship we had. The first night we met at @amberconey ‘s birthday, the rest of the party drowned out as we talked about this writer or that host, etc. etc. It was a fellow comedy writer crush, true and true, from the moment we met. I am so incredibly grateful to have had him in my life these past few years. He enriched it. My first experience with a Zebrina was terrible to say the least but since this one has arrived she’s been a real pleasure. I have to say though they are pretty amazing at organising house party’s that they just love to invite pest to....you know, the types that never know when to leave. 🙈😆 My only real tips for success with these guys is to make sure you don’t over-water them. Mist the undersides of their leaves as often as you can and also keep a really close eye on the undersides for those pesky Spider Mites, Thrips and any other un-welcome characters that might have tagged along. 🔎 One other tip is to get yourself a magnifying glass, you will be amazed when you look at a Spider Mites web through it and can actually see what’s really happening on that leaf. Got away to Oregon yesterday to play a wedding. There is something truly magical about singing on someones big day. We can be found wiping the tears from our eyes in the special moments. 🧡💙 We love love! 🧡💙 Being on the highway made us feel pretty normal, too. We talked about how we played 187 shows last year and how weve maybe played 20 shows this year. Its a big piece of us that is missing. We miss it, we miss YOU, we miss the highway. Alright no more hints On the 2,481st day on Stroud 9, the Candice said, “HELL TF YEAHHHH” In Colorado, 2 weeks ago, Eric got down and did his thing and gave me a beautiful ring pop and earrings 9,000+ ft above sea level on a mountain top somewhere in the Rockies. Yesterday, he did it again with the real ring in hand, moments before my family walked into their current house in Connecticut (which haven’t been to since January and whom haven’t seen since January) so that my 88 yo Abuela who came from Ohio could be there and see the ring. Now pictured, back at my former childhood home for the 1st time in 2 years, we’re swinging on my old childhood jungle gym and talking about the past and the future. The last 2 weeks, 5 months have been a crazy mixture of emotions; happiness, sadness, fear, worry, anxiousness, sleeplessness, anger, frustration and uncertainty. But in this one moment I am the happiest I have been in years. Healing and Good News works wonders for the soul especially during this difficult time and I can’t wait to pair my soul officially with yours in September 2022, Eric- my bestest friend in the whole world. Year 28. (Long Read) I feel as though many people view their birthday as a time of self reflection, being so, today I want to share one of my favorite quotes with you (the person reading this). “God will not have his work made manifest by cowards... If you dont do it, or you never find it, you are not only letting yourself down and literally wasting the life God gave you, but you are letting the rest of us down too.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson (but also not really because this was a really weird google mashup that just stuck with me). This quote can come off very harsh, but I found it in a time in my life when I needed to hear it. I interpreted the quote as overcoming fear and the good that can come from that, because to me, there is no growth without discomfort. I see it as being courageous, and not being afraid to walk in your truth. It means to me that in living through your most authentic self, that you can achieve your true potential. Because being/becoming who you feel you are meant to be without the mental constraint of fear takes true courage. . . . I feel as though COVID inadvertently became a time for self reflection for many of us. On this day... which just so happens to be my birthday, the first day of fall and the Virgo/Libra Cusp... I invite you to reflect on a time where you didn’t allow your fears to overcome your wants. To reflect on a time where you see unapologetically you, and how you felt. . . .
