In freshman year @emmetdonahue and I came up with the idea to recreate this iconic UCLA clip from the Bake and Destroy video (2012). 4 years later it still seems like a perfect way to pay homage to skateboarding while finishing out our college careers. Estas son las imágenes captadas por las cámaras del edificio frente al que ocurrió lo que siempre temí. Sabía que un día yo también podría ser víctima de un asalto como tanta gente a mi alrededor, y hasta había pensado qué hacer y decir, pero nunca imaginé que sería tan violento y peligroso y que lo último en que pensaría sería en mi vida. No sé de dónde mi hija y yo sacamos la sangre fría para no inmutarnos con los tiros, y tampoco sé de dónde la saqué yo para tratar de meterme en medio de él y ella, porque evitar que le pasara algo era lo único en mi mente. El asaltante estaba tratando de arrancarle la cartera que mi hija llevaba en bandolera con la mano izquierda mientras le apuntaba con la derecha, y yo imposibilitada de protegerla por una barrera de coralillos. Lo primero que hice fue quitarme la mascarilla y gritarle mi nombre y que era de la TV, tratando de desviar su atención hacia mí y quizás con ello evitar una desgracia. Ahí disparó al aire y le volvió a jalar la cartera. Entonces volví a gritarle y me apuntó directo al pecho. Solo atiné a ponerme el bolso delante pero intercambiamos miradas por encima de su mascarilla. Pensé en todo lo que podía pasar pero, la verdad, no me asustó tanto..., ya había dejado a mi hija. Ahí ella entregó la cartera y entonces el asaltante giró y disparó a una camioneta que se había detenido ante la escena. Luego se montó en su motor y se fue... The other footage I included in the video (clouds, moon, stars etc.) was captured on different video/trips over the last five years from desert nights on the Nullarbor Plains to gypsum crystal salt dunes in Northern Mexico In the early morning when Baran first floated out onto the water everything was completely still and the sound of his hand pan echoed around the shore. I wanted this video to capture the transformative quality of Baran’s music. Several productions on labels around the globe came out during the time of his studies at the Buenos Aires music production school where he teamed up for the duo: Jaramillo & Bastien. Their music was released by Labels like Kling Klong(DE) and Limonada Recs(FR). From 2011 to 2014, he managed Shake Collective, promoting electronic music events in his hometown Cuenca, Ecuador. This gave Daniel a relevant place in the local music scene and the chance to present some of the finnest artist at the moment such as: Alex Arnout, Jonny Cruz and Simon Baker among others. Since 2014 Jaramillo runs along his wife Daza the project called Drop, an electronic music brand that promotes local events and serves as a booking platform for both artists.
