We spent our anniversary in the @indigostratford Upon Avon, just the 3 of us. I’ve never been before but I’m DEFINITELY going back. Just beautiful! What a fantastic place. Loads of history to see (which obviously Joseph enjoyed and didn’t just sleep right through it...), brilliant outdoor restaurants for prime COVID avoidance, and the loveliest little room we could ask for! Its with a sadness that we announce, Eddie Bernal the oldest son of Frank and Lupe passed away on Wednesday night. Eddie loved people. He was a great host and loved when people came to eat at the family restaurant. He was a workaholic because the restaurant business was his passion and he always wanted everyone to have the best experience. He loved his family and always did his best to care for everyone. He suffered a brain aneurysm but was able to save the lives of 3 people and help countless more through organ donation. I get this question ALL the time... “How do you do it all?” First of all... nobody does it all. NOBODY. However, there are a few things I do keep in the back of my mind on a daily basis. 🙃 Planning: Obviously this is my first thing. I plan, I plan, and I plan again. I review my calendar, I rewrite my daily schedule, and I try to pinpoint where things might go wrong and how I can work around that. 😠 Stay out of victim mindset as much as possible: This isn’t always easy, and sometimes I just need a good cry. But I don’t sit in that mindset for too long. That’s not good for anyone... who does that serve? 💪 Doing the hard things, especially when I don’t want: There will always be hard times, hard things, and things we don’t want to do. But most of the time, you just need to stop complaining and DO IT! ☀️ Taking care of myself: As the saying goes... you can’t pour from an empty pitcher. Мы осели дома с середины февраля 😅 сначала перестраховались и приболели, а потом всех закрыли... мы честно все соблюдали 🙈 не гуляли, не ездили, в магазин выходили по необходимости)) целыми днями лепили, рисовали, писали сочинения, делали уроки, старшие занимались онлайн, с младшим готовились к 1 классу 🤪🔫 я научилась вышивать 😂 попыталась но не очень успешно собрать фотокниги за последние годы 😂 сегодня муж сказал, что с 12 начинают выпускать «наружу» ... а я вроде уже и отвыкла от этой наружи... вышли сегодня и странно там как-то 😂 да и дети то все равно дома теперь до осени 😂 А вы как? You know that “holy shyit what am I doing” feeling? Two years ago we took a crazy leap, Call it crazy? Call it trust? Call it scary? Call it our heart’s calling us? I don’t know what to call it- but it was ahhhmazing and terrifying. Exhilarating and nerve-wracking. We had no idea what we were doing- but yet we did at our core. We moved our whole family (within a month) 900km+ across country to a small city we had had lunch in once the year before and thought “what a cute place”- we should move there someday, in like 3-5 years. And then September long of 2018 we flew out here, looked at property and flew home the same night and started packing. Metaphorically and literally. There were so many reasons not to move, our livelihood was the renovation company Blake and his Dad owned- so we had zero income coming in if we moved. It was a successful company, we didn’t worry about putting food on the table or a roof over our heads. But we felt a calling and decided to jump. I say it was a knowing but know that a knowing still comes with a massive amount of questioning. Here me again- a heart pull, nudge, a calling comes with a massive amount of questioning. We questioned ourselves a lot on whether it was the right thing to do. Our ego’s screamed at us all of the reasons that we shouldn’t do this. “How can you do this to your kids- they just moved to a new school last year?” “Why on earth would you leave a steady income for nothing” (I don’t recommend this one- but more on that another day) “You have an amazing supportive family here that is always willing to help with the kids” “You are in your mid-30s” I could go on with 100s of fears/thoughts/excuses that ran through my head that month before moving. Every morning that month I’d walk my dog in the morning before the small town we lived in woke up (well the bakery was usually open & I’d want to pop in for all of that yumminess but my weakness for fresh bread is not actually a part of the story 😂) I’d get excited about the new life we were creating- this was my intro to manifesting and visualizing, although I really had no idea at the time. Memories with them are my favorite ✨ And to me, the best way to create memories is to escape our routines, to spend quality time in nature, and simply enjoy our precious time together. Sure, I know its exhausting to travel and do activities with kids. I know vacations & time off is not relaxing with them. But honestly, as much constant work as it is, it also gives me life and somehow, instant energy and the need to work hard to be able to spend the most time with them building beautiful memories. Remember, our time with them goes by quick. Let’s get out of our comfort zone and escape with our minis more often. Even if it’s half day. Make time memorable. For you. For them. Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve done an intro post and I see lots of new faces so thought today would be a good day to do that. I’m Terri the face behind @momlikethatpodcast We are an interracial family of 4 with 2 little boys in the mix. I’m Pakistani and my husband is German/Scottish and together we are a wholesome Canadian group. . . I started this account to support my podcast which is about all things motherhood and womenhood. Through the podcast I’ve shared stories of many amazing women (and some men), tips from parenting experts, venting sessions on relatable motherhood topics, played drinking games and have had a lot of comedic relief. I dont ask for much but Im asking with all my heart for this - that my mother be protected and supported with love as I continue the biggest transition of my life, without her. Shes been living with us almost exclusively since Cairo was born two and a half years ago and its been rough... rougher than rough, its taken my beloved Davana and I past our limit. She has singlehandedly plunged us into the darkest pits of despair and it has felt hopeless at times. If it wasnt for our fam and soulfam I dont know how we would have been able to stay positive. I own my failures in not seeking extra support in the beginning, I was naive to believe it would all work itself out so long as I kept going but Ive been humbled. Having denied it, avoided it, displaced it it feels good to finally come to a place of clarity and acceptance of my responsibility for her care. Part of that is having healthy boundaries with her and holding the truth that I can no longer sacrifice mine and my familys well being by having her live in the same home as us. I know other families have been able to successfully care for their parents with dementia and have found it very fulfilling, but its just not my case. My mother is carrying a lifetime of unprocessed trauma and as her memory continues to fade, so to does her capacity to hold it in. As such I can no longer allow her to project her pain and her fears upon Davana, who has been so good to her. I broke down in tears more than a few times in her inability to receive all the love Davana was giving her. It was so sad to see that she simply couldnt receive it. Yet, we harbor no ill will towards her and rather than resentment for the extra pain shes put our family through, I feel gratitude for the lessons and to know I must take a new approach to caring for her moving forward. Shes in Las Vegas right now near my sister, and is in good spirits. We had a great conversation earlier and she expressed her love for us and I felt it. She misses Cairo but said she doesnt want to be a barrier to us fulfilling our dreams. I let her know she wasnt and that once we find our home and settle in Ill find a place for her not too far. The JOY in Christ Experiment Day 181- We had a fun night celebrating my handsome’s 37th birthday. 14+ years ago I met this guy at a church activity not knowing he would change the course of my future forever. I am in awe everyday of his degree of selflessness. He is truly the least selfish person I know and is willing to drop anything to help someone in need. I am so grateful I have the chance to really spoil him on his birthday. I even told him he didn’t have to help me fold laundry tonight (a Monday night tradition). It’s not often I voluntarily wake up at 5am on my birthday, but today was worth it. Upper Mohawk Lake did not disappoint. The first time I made the hike on my birthday six years ago, Brad and I dreamed of the day our kids could join us. Today, they blazed up the hill. I keep thinking that as I reflect on the trip we just took the words will come, but weve been back a few days now and Im still at a loss to find the right ones. Flashback to the pictures I shared of Madeline running to my mom on the beach. In those pictures my mom was terminal and she actually passed 3 weeks later. We spread her ashes in the ocean where we had our last special trip with her because it was so perfect. Madeline helped to spread them. Ever since 2009 we have visited the same vacation spot in her memory, spending much time doing the same things we did with her on that last trip. When Madeline knew she was terminal, and asked to be turned into angel dust (as she always referred to my moms ashes) she asked us to spread some of her with my mom. I can remember her huge smile when I told her we would do that for her. We decided to wait and go at the same time we do every year. It was a quick, exhausting and emotional trip but all in a good way. The time with our families was priceless. The kids were incredibly brave- especially Juju who I know felt Madelines absence with every move she made this past week. Although we knew we were following Madelines wishes, and although we have already received our confirmation that she is with my mom, we were given one more of the most beautiful signs that night- an absolutely beautiful rainbow at 8:22 pm shown brightly and perfectly over the ocean where she was reunited her Mimi. It was surrounded by deep orange clouds when the rest of the sky was dark. It was one of those skies you could actually feel. Just like in the picture taken at the same ocean, I could picture them smiling and embracing each other. Shes ok❤️ And she is continuing to do a remarkable job of letting us know that. ❤️ - @prayers.for.madeline on Instagram

Sometimes I wish I could be content. I think about walking away. Be ok with a safe job. Predictable hours. Decent coffee. Then he smiles and shakes his head - he knows that this would never be me. But then - I watch you ask for more money. Call out bullshit online. Write the damn policy at your workplace. Push for pay transparency. I watch you open your eyes. See that the patriarchy has cost women over $53 billion fucking dollars. I watch you get angry. Do you ever wonder if you are cut out to be the kind of mother you want your children to have? Do you tell yourself at the end of the day if only I could yell less, decrease the feeling of exhaustion, not be so forgetful, have more time in a day, or get rid of the clutter and chaos...etc______you fill in the blank? If so, let me tell you first you are normal and your are not alone! ⠀ You ARE however probably experiencing a level of burnout! Burnout has as undeniably increased since the pandemic struck earth, but even before COVID-19, parents have been experiencing burnout for years due to workplace stress but also from general life and home stressors. ⠀ I know for a FACT I have experienced long periods of burnout before. Even now, knowing more about how to easily identify it, I still experience varying levels of burnout. I am, however, more equipped to manage it. ⠀ ➡️check in with yourself- ask yourself what outcome you REALLY want and use positive language around what you desire. Ex. Instead of saying...I want to decrease exhaustion, say...I want to feel energized. I want to have more time in my day- say...I will learn to manage my time better. ⠀ ➡️practice self care- get deep and ask your self where you need the MOST attention. Is it mind, body, or soul? Then create a self care routine around your biggest need. Start there before incorporating more self care activities. ⠀ ➡️Be ok asking for help! If you are giving all the time, where have you created space to give to yourself? Create that space by asking for help. If you have family or friends close by- ask if they can lend a hand. If you have a spouse- be vocal and honest about how you have been feeling and create a plan together that offers you some relief! Do not sugar coat it, be honest! If you are both burnt out (hello dual income household with multiple kids during a pandemic)- trade off space and time for you each to fulfill your own needs. ⠀ ➡️prioritize rest- this could be part of your self care, but it deserves an extra shout out! If you aren’t sleeping because (well motherhood) do everything to listen to your body and at least REST your eyes! #momburnout #burnout #selfcareformoms #positivevibes - @jennifero1 on Instagram
