Cora woke me up at 3 am because she was scared. The wind and rain sounded like a whistling tea kettle mixed with ocean waves crashing. I had just enough time before our power went out to check the radar. The eye of the hurricane was closer than predicted. After I got her back to sleep, I made the mistake of looking out my window. I’ve never seen trees bend back and forth so quickly. I also saw one of our small sheds on the verge of falling apart. I crawled back into bed, heart pounding and all. There was no way I could sleep with everything going on. . Anxiety. We just watched a webinar on stress anxiety and it was defined as “an unhealthy response to life’s uncertainty.” Every time I felt a tightening in my chest, I knew I had to bring it to God or else it might turn to a full blown panic attack. And so I did. My Bible was on the other side of the house so I made my way to my daughter’s room to get hers, and with my cell phone flash light I read verse after verse after verse. And then I prayed those verses all throughout the night. And guess what? I traded my panic for His peace. . “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Phil. 4:6) . “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3) . These aren’t just words on a page. These aren’t unattainable realities. These are living and active truths that supply all we need for when we need it. God knows we wrestle with anxiety and He gives us a way out by trusting in Him and receiving His peace. . We woke up to branches scattered everywhere, a few broken windows, missing fencing and roofs, and some of our belongings scattered all the way across the neighborhood. We don’t have power or cell service (but our generator gives us power for WiFi so we are using it to update our friends and family.) The bottom line is we are physically safe and God has shown me once more that He is who He says He is. I couldn’t be more grateful. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. . #hurricanesally - @aholypursuit on Instagram

There are stories that fears us things love brings along. And Im pretty sure mine will scare you to never love again. This song makes me count all the sins that I committed. he placed his tender hand on my cold thighs while his tensed eyes lay fixed on the road ahead. I held him accountable for butchering the night into minute pieces. I ask him to turn the ac off, I need some air - it is suffocating, this compact soreness of our moods and a lofty silence that seems nothing more than a dry ocean I am struggling to keep my head above. I can sense his guilt rising up and equally so, his sordid attempts to plaster my wounds with all kinds of endearments in the world - - - baby why are you so mad at me? speak to me babe! you know how much you mean to me, it was just a joke, you are beautiful just the way you are! - - I keep staring at the glimmering city lights while his words feels like a bland food I cooked which i cant throw but swallow in large morsels until the starvation ends. He turns on the radio, Arijits voice wafting off forming a melancholic layer. The road ahead beyond the windshield appears in cinematic grunge like a never ending maze and the car moving in concentric circles in an abandoned island- never even reaching the core. Things like this creates a crater on a plain ground, a deep dark blot on a white sheet of paper so i cant just fake a smile and let him resume his usual tid bits about how the beer wasnt branded there, how Rishis parties could never be like his and within a sudden spur of moment he would completely deviate in 360° and talk about politics, his love for gadgets where all i do is agree with an occasional hmm or a nod now and then.That is where my patience wears thin. Its eerily satisfying to let your face out of a moving car with the sound of the wind beating your ear drums- the sound of thrill, freedom,a dangerous fallacy you risk. When you pull yourself back in, its the same monotonous consistency of life with all its play safe rules. It takes few seconds of designed apology and drowsy lips to yield in to a callous intimacy that gives way to a passionate love making and a normal morning the next day. And it takes jokes like this to dissect someones mind and see where your worth lies.
