The same will happen tomorrow, the day after that and every day ongoing, making breast cancer the most common cancer affecting Australian women. In fact, it is estimated that 20,000+ new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in Australia in 2020. Only 5-10% of breast cancers are hereditary, which means that over 90% have no genetic link. Am parcurs traseul Cheile Sohodolului, traversând zone forestiere stâncoase, mici lacuri, văi înguste și abrupte, cu stânci și bușteni și apoi... canyoning adventure: am înotat în piscine naturale, formate de cascade, am escaldat stânci, totul ca să ajungem să coborâm în rapel prin cascada din Valea Șipotului. Menționăm că toți participanții s-au descurcat extraordinar și au simțit energia fantastică a unui astfel de trip. A fost încă o experiență de vis, organizată sub coordonarea tehnică a Serviciului Salvamont Romania, care a asigurat buna desfășurare a tuturor activităților. My weekend story of good people doing good things. Last week I found online a gorgeous and serene picture of Chedoke Falls and was instantly inspired to go get a shot of it. When I got there, I wasnt expecting it to be so popular. As I hiked up the river, I cant help but feel sad from seeing all the trash left along the river and the base of the falls. Despite being a beautiful waterfall, the trash really ruined the overall experience, and I cant help but wonder how disappointed others would also feel. Its difficult to understand why people litter outside. If we all treat the outdoors as if its our home (Im sure people dont litter at home), then wed be able to preserve as much of mother natures beauty as we can in our lifetime. As I was leaving, I noticed a group of people collecting garbage. They werent wearing uniforms and they also dont look like they were part of an organization... so I asked if they were local volunteers sent by the city of Hamilton. The answer is, nope! They were simply a group of friends out on a weekend afternoon to do some community cleanup. Their good heart and love for nature really inspired me to take a few shots of them and hopefully share this story to our viewers. They will be doing more cleanups in southern Ontario, so if you want to join in, feel free to reach out and connect with them! Studio Two Three is rooted in community collaboration, shared tools and space, and in-person events, so the COVID-19 pandemic created its own unique set of challenges. All of our equipment and art-making tools sat unused when we closed the building for three weeks to evaluate safety protocols and self-quarantine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We soon transformed our event space into a safely-distanced sewing shop because we believe that artists play an essential role in the health and wellbeing of our community. For 13 weeks, we worked with a group of community partners and over 150 volunteers to produce 10,000 masks for essential workers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When the murder of George Floyd set in motion a national uprising to defend black lives, we felt it was our role use the tools we have on hand to support this movement and share important information with the people of our community. Weve been producing free risograph, letterpress, and silkscreened images that we are sharing widely in the newspaper box in front of our studio as well as hosting community print days at Marcus David Peters Circle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Arts and culture are the expressions of a civically-engaged community. They reflect the stories and beliefs of place and contribute to a powerful sense of belonging. We believe that art should, and has always, played a vital role in movements for social justice. Lakeland artist Gillian Fazio spent Saturday morning striving to finish a mural but keeping an eye out for the rain she knew would halt her work. The mural shows bright flowers and butterflies emerging from a young woman’s long, flowing hair. The message of growth and promise speaks to the work that goes on inside the building whose outer wall displays the mural. Pace Center for Girls at 213 Tyler Ave. provides education and counseling for middle-school and high-school girls who otherwise would be in danger of not completing school. Fazio says the mural should be finished by Tuesday. It doesn’t have a title yet but she’s considering “Empress” because it connotes a powerful, decisive woman worthy of respect. - @lkldnow on Instagram

Hey everyone I’m Sarah, the boss babe behind Markets by Dream Day. It’s been a while since I have introduced myself and now that we have reached over 10,000 followers, now is a better time then any right? You may or may not know, but I started out a maker - just like all the amazing businesses we feature in store. I was the heart and soul behind @dreamdaycookies which I started when I was on maternity leave with my first daughter in 2016. As our little cookie business grew, I got to meet so many amazing artisans at different markets and shows. We grew so big I eventually moved out of my house and rented the entire basement at my moms place. . . This was where Markets by Dream Day was born. I got chatting to vendors about a way to showcase our work on a daily basis for Christmas time in 2018 and as I wasn’t using the “living space” in the basement - we decided to set up shop. We originally had just 18 of us (most of which are still in one, if not both locations) and had only planned to set up for Nov-Dec, but you all loved it so much we decided to make it permanent. We stayed in my moms basement until March 2019 and then in April we opened our first brick and mortar store in Brooklin. I was so nervous no one would show up opening day and that I would let all these vendors down who had taken a risk to set up shop with us. . . But customers you didn’t let us down. Our first day we did over $13,000 in sales, 100% of which goes back to the vendors. You also made 2019 an amazing year for us, putting back over half a million dollars into your local community. This was why we decided to expand in 2020 to Bowmanville. Though we were suppose to open up in April, due to Covid we didn’t open until July. Again I was nervous, but this time it was due to the fact a pandemic was going on. But again you guys came out to support, we did over $55,000 in July and this past Saturday at our market we had our busiest day ever. . . Doing almost $13,000 in sales! From the bottom of my heart and I know our vendors hearts, thank you for supporting us on this journey and to helping us grow. My little sunshine is 4 today! ☀️ . . . (Pardon a proud mom for a little sappy indulgence)...When the doctor handed Eivor to me it was like the last puzzle piece being fit in. 🧩 My world was complete. Since day one she has been a ray of sunshine bringing light and love wherever she goes. She’s filled with smiles, stories, songs, and a whole lotta sass. She is brave and so funny and has such a big imagination (apparently she has an entire mermaid family living in Australia and a mermaid mom who lets her do just about anything she wants... especially the things I won’t let her do). Between she and her brother I’m almost always laughing (or repeating myself 😅). She loves to dance with her whole body, sing with a booming voice, and follow her brother on any adventure. Heading out from my Appalachian home-nest for basically the first time since February. Bought a 4wd truck and am driving with my sweetie across this wonderful and challenged country of ours to see family not seen since winter. Wedding crashing and singing the aisle song for my sweet band mate Arounas wedding to his beloved. New Mexico-Montana-Wyoming are where we will hang our hats the most, soaking in the vast vistas and the cryptic canyons of incomparable hues. ⁣Its a strange dance with the whole entire music industry being shut down, one that is challenging and illuminating. We are doing our best to consider this time a non planned sabbatical of sorts, focusing inwards after many many years of facing outward. Still making tons of art. The opportunity for healing and rest, refinement and courage has been true. ⁣ Maybe I’ll find a few back country taverns to serenade the locals with my banjo, a bunch of new songs, and dreams for this world. I hope to pick up a puppy and leave behind a trail of watercolor paintings in friendly homesteads. Volunteer with some fire relief efforts and share a morning yawp with a few bison and moose. After having a Reel reach almost 150k views, my reach increased almost 70% from previous weeks 🤯⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 2️⃣ Reels that provide VALUE perform the best for me. 🤑 Think tips, skills that you can share, creative ideas 💥 — that kinda thing.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 3️⃣ They dont need to be PERFECTLY curated like your feed images may be. 🖼️ These can be more fun, snappy, and REAL clips.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 4️⃣ This is where ALL the Instagram trolls come out. 🤬 Since youre REACHING a larger audience, youre BOUND to get some haters. ❌ Comment back to their rude comments & thank them for the extra engagement 🤷‍♀️⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 5️⃣ Theyre actually REALLY easy to make. 🤘 I typically batch shoot 5-6 Reels and then use then for different tips or concepts throughout the week.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 6️⃣ Editing in the app right now isnt ideal. 🙄 I prefer to use @inshotapp to quickly and easily edit my Reels.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ 7️⃣ According to an article I read, soon Reels will expand from 15 seconds to 30 seconds. 2020 has definitely been a year of reflecting and rethinking. For me it’s hard to do that and not think about past mural projects. I’ve been insanely fortunate to have done so many over the last few years and I certainly wouldn’t have been able to move completely across the country without them, but things change. I took the train very early in the morning to Frankfurt and with tired eyes I went though the complementary Bahn Magazin displayed in each car. There was a section about an art exhibition in Hamburg which highlighted a tiny picture of a painting - by Grit Richter. The abstract colors and forms caught my eye. I immediately looked her up online and went to her website. I wanted to know more and reached out to her and asked her if she was up for a meeting. A few weeks later she visited me in the gallery and we went through her portfolio. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ She didn’t talk much about her work, in fact it was very challenging for her to talk at all about her works in the beginning. This was new to me since I was so used to concepts, messages and statements around art. Grit was absolutely guided by her intuition, her emotional experiences and her memories in her artistic process, and that impressed me. I loved how she opened up a dialogue through her abstract colorful forms in her work - always being inviting, quirky and sometimes even soothing, as if she was saying: I know how you feel, I’ve been there myself. Emotions and relations at the time was definitely not a hot topic, Berlin likes to keep it cool and distant, but I was interested in exactly that. I absolutely fell in loved with her work, it really spoke to me. We did our first solo exhibition in 2013. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Grit Richter’s exhibition Mixed Feelings is currently on view at the gallery until Oct 31. Many of you don’t know me yet...It’s been a while since I featured myself!💗 This past year has been a whirlwind on social media for me, I’m constantly videoing and creating content during my regular work day and then pulling out the bits and pieces I think will be relevant to the stylists and clients that follow along💗 I started my journey in hair at a beauty school in Bremerton, Washington back in 1983. My mom was my best client and visited me every week for a facial and to get her hair styled. (She always said my schooling was the best $1,500 she ever spent!) I bought my salon when I was 21..it was a small 3 station salon in Cheney Washington and I had no idea what I was doing!! It was a college town and we were having a lot of fun.. cutting hair in our bare feet and swimsuits 👙😂 , the music was so loud you had to turn it down to answer the phone, and we thought it was great fun to hide from the UPS man 👨🏻 🤷‍♀️ 3 years later I got married to my husband Mark and he turned the hobby into a thriving business.👍 Fast forward 32 years and we have moved locations 3 times, I’ve trained over 100 stylists, won awards for the salon, almost gone out of business.. and thrived as a business.. Through it all, I’ve worked behind the chair and trained my staff.. always giving away the knowledge that has been given to me💗I’ve won a Naha award, been an educator for major haircare brands and am currently an Artistic lead for Kms. All of this to say that I love what I do💗💗 I am incredibly blessed to have the people in my life who love and support me.. I have so much to give, because I have received even more, and I’m nowhere close to being done. 💪 There are exciting new adventures just around the corner...online education, something white you can cut with😉, photos, videos and whatever else I can think of!! How comfortable are we with our bodies? Have you ever blamed your body? I recently saw a great ted talk, ‘Body Positivity or Body Obsession’, the lady talked about how the conception about body image is shaped by physical abilities and experience. To feel the pressure is normal especially when you’ve faced criticism but valuing and holding oneself against an unrealistic, ‘ideal’ body type isn’t fair which causes eating disorders such as anorexia, Bulimia nervosa, which affects all the genders at any age, at any time. We live in a visual culture where we have to be camera ready. In a culture of perfect images, how difficult it is to love oneself? When we talk about Pregnant women, the pressure of returning to the normal body shape is the source of grievance and discontent. Dissatisfaction during pregnancy might lead to unhealthy eating behaviours which might have direct adverse impact on the mother and baby. Ignorance is not a bliss, we need to take this seriously especially when it affects our mental health. Words will never be able to encapsulate how being at Event Luv this past week felt, no way, no how. No, in order to fully comprehend the impact of something like that, you have to be in the room. For years now I’ve preached that exact notion; the importance of getting yourself in the room. And I’m not just preaching it, I’m living it...looking back on the past four years, I’ve put myself “in the room” in one way, shape or form over 50 times & it’s without a doubt, changed & enhanced my life on so many different levels. Sure you walk away with technical tools, in this case the ones that teach you how to put on successful & profitable events, however that’s just the beginning. You’ll be hard pressed to find connections deeper than the ones formed in a room full of people on the same trajectory as you, fighting the same demons, struggling to overcome the same obstacles and limiting beliefs. From my experience you not only walk away with more new friends than you know what to do with but also having learned more about yourself than ever before & very well equipped to bring your vision to life. The last two posts I’ve made have been chalked full of good news, rich life experiences & pursuits of passions much, much, MUCH bigger than me. & I would be totally remiss if I didn’t tie most, if not all of it back to this woman, this event & this community in some way, shape or form. @llindseyschwartz & I met through @lululemon ; @jillphxsen had the incredible foresight to bring her in to lead our staff meeting one fateful February morning (all of which is incredibly bittersweet given the news I’m dropping next *stay tuned*...). What did she talk about? Essentially getting out of your own way. She had written her book but it had not been released yet. There was a Facebook group but no instagram. Chatter of an event was more like a low murmur of what bringing people together “could” look like. I paint this picture because I want to accurately convey not only how much this idea has grown in 3, short years, but how incredible it’s been for me to see & be a part of it all unfolding. I’ve learned so much, I’ve grown so much, I’ve gained so much. The memories we’ve made are invaluable & lives impacted are immeasurable, including the incredible positive influence it’s had over my life. “Whenever I am weeding in the garden, I think of my grandfather. My grandfather’s garden was always spotless. He weeded his garden everyday meticulously. Even when I couldn’t see anything left to weed, he would find something. He loved weeding—it was meditative for him. His garden was his quiet oasis. I hope to bring that same peace and beauty to my own garden.” For as long as she can remember, Nelli has always wanted a garden. However, it wasn’t until the COVID-19 pandemic erupted that she decided to take the initiative to create a nutritious soil bed and buy some seed packets to plant in her yard. Watching everyone frantically rush to the grocery stores during the beginning of the pandemic, Nelli was reminded of her childhood in Armenia. Although her family was never food insecure, there was always anxiety around having sufficient food to feed everyone. Growing up, she worked hard alongside her parents to put meals on the table. Thus, during quarantine, Nelli decided that she no longer wanted to be so dependent on others for food. With the help and guidance of the homesteading community in her neighborhood, she started growing cabbage, squash, and an assortment of other vegetables in her own garden bed. Like her grandfather, Nelli finds weeding meditative: “Whenever I have spare time, I like to come out to the garden and weed. I have to admit, it’s been a weird few days, trying to juggle everything and process opening a business, while at the same time launching a large fundraising campaign in honor of someone (and an entire family) whom I admire deeply, and processing RBG’s passing. I feel both energized and scattered. My best self, yet running on empty. It’s odd and rewarding to run a business. There are new challenges daily that we never could have anticipated. Like the bizarre cancel culture we live in these days. It’s not easy putting yourself out there and we’re learning to accept that we can’t please everyone. It might appear like we know what we’re doing but we are honestly learning by the minute. We’re navigating, and although we feel overwhelmed at times, we’re incredibly thankful. Speaking of gratitude, I’d be remiss not to acknowledge and thank #NotoriousRBG for the path she paved for women, because we—as female business owners—wouldn’t be where we are if not for her. There aren’t many more words that capture how we feel. Just “thanks”. Simple. Which seems strange, considering the things RBG did were not simple by any means. As many have said, every single woman stands on the shoulders of this tiny giant, every second of every day; there are not enough thanks in this world for Justice Ginsburg. We owe it to you for paving the way for us to kick ass. You are the definition of the word “legend” (like an actual legend, not the Aussie meaning, no offense to my lovely Aussie friends).
