Read on for tips I use when I look at an abdominal CT... 👨🏽💻Coming into radiology as someone who was mainly concerned with what was going on above the diaphragm I found the world of abdominal CT fairly daunting. But by getting to grips with the anatomy of the abdomen things became a whole lot clearer 👨🏽💻At this level of the abdomen we get a nice demonstration of the superior mesenteric artery – we can’t see the superior mesenteric vein here but normally the vein should lie to the right of the artery at the level of the pancreas, if this is reversed then consider intestinal malrotation which can predispose to midgut volvulus 👨🏽💻I always check to see there is a clean layer of fat surrounding the SMA – if this is infiltrated consider a malignant pathology such as a pancreatic tumour 👨🏽💻Always follow the vessels no matter which CT it is you’re looking at, be it head, neck, chest or abdomen. I always follow the portal veins within the liver formed at the confluence by the splenic vein (which runs posterior to the pancreas) and the superior mesenteric vein which runs vertically. In patients with liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis in particular you are looking for a filling defect or occluded vessel representing thrombosis 👨🏽💻There aren’t many retroperitoneal structures that cross the midline but the left renal vein is one of them – characteristically this passes anterior to the aorta from the left kidney to the IVC but in some people this can have a retroaortic course where it passes behind the aorta. I have seen the occasional incidental left renal vein thrombosis so it is worth checking for filling defects! This is a must in cases of renal cell carcinoma which likes to spread into the IVC via the renal veins 🔻@theradiologistpage - @theradiologistpage on Instagram

As Pride month comes to an end here is a photo by @oliviabee from when @lesliemarrowjones and I were featured in @teenvogue. It was such a rememberable experience getting to talk about coming out and our experience being gay and what it was like for us as a couple. Love is love. For so long when I was younger I tried to hide it or pray the gay away and you can’t. Not without losing yourself. I never thought I’d be this lucky and be married to my best friend. I am so thankful and grateful I live in a world where I can be legally married in all 50 states. June 15th, 2015. The Helix Nebula was the inspiration for Nush Cole’s submission for the RAS bicentennial quilt square. She explains what drew her to it - and the technique used to create this beauty: “have always been drawn to the Helix Nebula. Im not sure if its because of the beautiful colours or the fact that it resembles an eye. I originally painted it on but that didnt look quite right so I decided to have a go at beading. The beads are from a belt I broke years ago. I thought they might come in useful for something and Im so pleased I finally got to recycle them. Ive had a lot of fun making my square and I learned a lot too. Нескучный сад и белки 🐿 Я хотел несколькими снимками прояснить ситуация по грызунам Нескучного сада в Москве 😁 Сам по себе Нескучный сад — это крупнейший в Москве пейзажный парк, образованный дворцовым ведомством Николая I после выкупа усадеб Трубецких, Голициных и Орловых 🌳 Самое большое имение называлось Нескучное — так вот в честь него. Площадь 59,3 га, смыкается с ЦПКО им. Горького. Про парк я предупредил 😏 На деревьях сада обитают в больших количествах белки, которые буквально силой берут прогуливающихся и жрут как не в себя 😳 Раньше они вроде немного побаивались. Но после наступления короновирусных событий вообще отбились от рук. Или они чрезмерно расплодились, или еще что 😬 Теперь белка запросто может подбежать по земле к совершенно постороннему человеку, вскарабкаться по ноге к нему не плечо и руку и потребовать еды 🥨 Женщины некоторые при этом кричат. A startup called StartRocket is exploring a new type of advertising — using an array of micro satellites to project companies logos into low-Earth orbit. • • As you’d imagine, this “terrestrial advertising” poses a serious risk of light pollution in space. Components of light pollution include: Glare – excessive brightness that causes visual discomfort. The inappropriate or excessive use of artificial light – known as light pollution – can have serious environmental consequences for humans, wildlife, and our climate.
