Meanwhile, the number of #COVID19 fatalities per million people is much higher in Sweden than in neighboring countries such as Denmark or Norway. Compared to other rich countries, Sweden has had one of the highest death rates so far. If America simply let the epidemic rage like Sweden, the results could be even worse due to its vulnerable populations. The U.S. has high rates of heart disease and other conditions that put people at risk of becoming seriously ill should they catch COVID-19. Many people in the U.S. face other inequities, including lack of access to health insurance and living in areas high in air pollution, that compound their risks. At the early stages, you can simply add weight to the bar and do the same reps and sets and make progress (note that just increasing weight does increase volume). But, once this strategy no longer works, you have to find a new way to induce overload, and if you can’t just add weight to the bar that means increasing training volume more assertively via adding additional sets, reps or days of training. 🔹As in the graph above, the bigger and stronger you get, the slower your progress will be. You will need to do more and more to get lesser and lesser progress the more experienced you become. When your progress stalls, an increase in volume may be just what you need. However it is possible to do too much volume and negatively affect recovery. Shown is incline press warmup sets, then for 3*5 with 90-kg. When your last rep velocity is 0.15 m/s or close to it you know that is RPE level 10 for any pressing exercise! I usually don’t share very personal moments here, but I thought I would share one as I can imagine many women my age (56) can identify. I struggled with #menopause last year, gaining weight in many places I had never realized were there as much before (LOL!) and could not fit in any of my clothes. I found myself covering up, totally insecure and staying home all the time (pre-pandemic). So I thought while isolated during the pandemic, while I am eating at home all the time, why not try @noom and wow, I am now back to my high school weight and hit my goal today after 102 days. Here is further data from my earlier post. This is from S.Korea where we have the most volume of data and the most accurate data. They have tested over 220,000 people. This is plotting the percent of total Covid-19 positive cases of each age group and comparing what each age groups portion is of the total population. It shows that although 20-29 year olds make up just 13% of the total population, they make up 30% of all the Covid-19 positive cases! Again, young people are the highest group carrying this contagion. Most in that group will have mild or no symptoms and if they continue to go about things like normal, they will drive the spread which will ultimately effect our elderly, our chronically ill and our healthcare workers who are on the frontlines.
