Suicide Awareness Month 💔 It wasn’t that long ago I was being rejected from every television show I auditioned for because I weighed 400 pounds... it sent me down a cycle of eating disorders & self harm too the point that I didn’t want to live anymore because the wheel of pain took my livelihood away. I finally took the toxic energy & lost 200 pounds & when I auditioned for American Idol I got the Golden Ticket! Good energy internally changed my whole life externally! Today is 1 year + 9 months since I put the blade down. Out of all of my accomplishments this year, this is by far my favorite one to show off. I am cut free, I am strong, & so are you. No matter how hard life gets you will always RISE above it... I promise. I replaced my recent urge to cut with tattoos & it has been working for me but there are so many different things you can do instead like rubbing ice cubes in the areas you urge to harm. •Nosebleeds• Nosebleeds (medical term: epistaxis) are a common reason that kids are referred to a hematologist. 👩🏼⚕️ Nosebleeds are usually caused by bleeding from a broken tiny blood vessel in the front part of the nose. 👃🏼 They are very common in children. Risk factors for nosebleeds include environmental factors (dry air, cold weather ❄️ ), mechanical factors (nose picking, blowing nose too hard🤧, injury) and illnesses (colds🤒, allergies). Sometimes there isn’t a clear cause of nosebleeds.🤷🏾♂️ Nosebleeds can also be a sign of an underlying bleeding disorder. 🩸 If your child has frequent nosebleeds ( 5 per year) or prolonged nosebleeds (10 minutes), your doctor may recommend evaluation by a hematologist (especially if there are other family members with bleeding symptoms or a known bleeding disorder). While commonly people think they should tip their head back when they have a nosebleed, this just leads to swallowing blood. 🙅🏻 Blood is very irritating to the stomach 🤢, so can give kids a stomach ache and even cause them to vomit🤮. When your child has a nosebleed, pinch the nose where the nostrils meet the cartilage, and have them lead forward slightly. Although it is tempting, I always tell kids “don’t peek!”. ❌👀 You want to hold pressure on the nose for 5-10 minutes. Don’t check if the bleeding has stopped because this can dislodge the clot that is stopping the bleeding and make the nosebleed last longer‼️. You can also put a cold compress on the bridge of the nose. 🧊 To prevent nosebleeds, help to keep your child’s nose moist. You can use petroleum jelly (or olive oil) on the outside of the nostrils to keep moisture in. Incidence of permanent ischemic damage to hand after distal artery catheterisation is reported to be 0.09%. Another TQ save. This case was sent to us from a colleague @stryker2020p . The patient punched a glass window and sustained a large laceration. Initially he presented to the ER and the physician tried to control bleeding with hemostats. This proved in effective. But luckily our colleague was present to quickly apply a tourniquet and then transport/transfer him to a local trauma center for surgical intervention. Tips: Hemostats work well for clamping vessels but it can be extremely difficult or impossible if you cannot adequately visualize the vessel. This requires you to have PROXIMAL control for arterial hemorrhage. You can have a tourniquet to control the hemorrhage or you can surgically expose the vessel more Proximal away from the area of trauma to have a clean field to work. The patient punched a glass window and sustained a large laceration. Initially he presented to the ER and the physician tried to control bleeding with hemostats. This proved in effective. But luckily our colleague was present to quickly apply a tourniquet and then transport/transfer him to a local trauma center for surgical intervention. Tips: Hemostats work well for clamping vessels but it can be extremely difficult or impossible if you cannot adequately visualize the vessel. This requires you to have PROXIMAL control for arterial hemorrhage. You can have a tourniquet to control the hemorrhage or you can surgically expose the vessel more Proximal away from the area of trauma to have a clean field to work. Sanitary pads have become scarce in parts of India, especially in rural areas amid lockdown as schools that usually provide sanitary products remain shut and NGOs and factory units that prodce low-cost napkins have been unable to keep up production due to unavailability of raw material. Women from weaker socio-economic backgrounds in cities are unable to afford pads due to the disruption in income.
