Rising sea levels threaten our community and coastal way of life at the same time. I have been working with our Planning staff, colleagues from around the state, and the Coastal Commission on a set of innovative strategies to address the threat. Our Board adopted a new Local Coastal Plan that includes a set of policies that recognize our coastal geology, take into account our voter-approved land-use policies, and prepare our county to deal with the impacts of sea-level rise. This approach promotes good use of science, creates flexibility in our response, and sets a time horizon of 20 years so we can reconfigure the policies based on the latest science. - @superleopold on Instagram

Proyecto Maratue sufre duro revés debido a pronuncimiento del Ministerio del Medio Ambiente (MMA). De acuerdo a lo informado al Servicio de Evaluación Ambiental por parte del MMA, y en respuesta a uno de los recursos legales que hemos presentado como Salvemos Quirilluca, específicamente en respuesta a nuestro recurso de reclamación financiado comunitariamente, se pudo constatar que el proyecto Maratue cometió sendos errores en identificar sus impactos ambientales, entre los que se destacan: - No se protege de forma efectiva los humedales debido a su sensibilidad y a las especies que allí se han encontrado, es decir, la rana chilena y el pez pocha, ambos en categoria de conservación Vulnerables. Cabe señalar que nuestra propuesta de Santuario de la Naturaleza incluyen estos como zonas protegidas. -El MMA considera que monitorear los atributos ambientales de Quirilluca durante 5 años es INSUFICIENTE, siendo eso lo propone el proyecto Maratue. El MMA considera que debe monitorearse AL MENOS durante 45 años. Y una de las cosas más graves: El Proyecto Maratué NO DA CUMPLIMIENTO AL PLAN DE DESCONTAMINACÓN DE CONCON-QUINTERO-PUCHUNCAVI, ya que no consideraron las emisiones atmofericas que implicarian la instalación y operación de 14.180 viviendas en Quirilluca. A modo de conclusión: el proyecto Maratué contamina a la comuna de Puchuncaví y no protege debidamente el patrimonio natural. Nuestro Santuario de la Naturaleza no contamina y si protege la biodiversidad. Salvemos Quirilluca. We visit Port Isaac daily on our trips, did you know it’s actually called Porthysek in Cornish. The meaning of the Cornish name is corn port, indicating a trade in corn from the arable inland district. The origins of Port Isaac are likely Celtic and the development of the town can be roughly dvided into three phases. Through the middle ages and up to the coming of the railways Port Isaac was a thriving port serving the area inland. During the Tudor period the harbour was dredged, a good illustration of its importance. Once goods from locations further inland were better served by the North Cornwall Railway, the economy of the port relied on pilchard fishing, an activity that had likely been happening for centuries. However the pilchard shoals began to decline, and following World War 1 tourism became the mainstay of the economy.
