❗️La construcció de la deixalleria a Felanitx podria començar a final dany❗️ 🔴 És un dels objectius de lAjuntament de Felanitx que preveu ubicar-la al polígon de Son Colom i que es finançaria íntegrament amb doblers del Consistori. ➡️ LAjuntament de Felanitx tindrà servei de deixalleria municipal tal com obliga la llei de residus aprovada lany 2019 pel Govern. La licitació de les obres siniciarà just en el moment que el reglament de la mateixa quedi aprovat en sessió plenària, previsiblement el mes de novembre. El regidor de medi ambient, Miquel Lluís Mestre ha assenyalat «quan tinguem la deixalleria en funcionament es podrà tenir un control dels residus al municipi. Es podran instal·lar càmeres de vigilància i entenem que sen farà un ús correcte de les instal·lacions. There is a chance to bring a groundbreaking plastic pollution reduction act directly to voters on the 2022 ballot, but to get it there we need signatures from Californians like you. The California Recycling and Plastic Pollution Reduction Act is on track to qualify for the statewide 2022 ballot thanks to signatures from hundreds of thousands of Californians. This act would require a 25% source reduction of single-use plastics by 2030 AND hold Big Plastic financially accountable for their pollution. We know disposable plastics are an environmental justice, pollution, public health, and climate change issue. Plastic is made from fossil fuels, and toxic pollution from its extraction and manufacturing disproportionately impacts People of Color and low-income communities. Across the globe, we produce 300 million tons of plastic annually, 50% of which is used for disposable items. That number is only expected to jump, as Big Plastic pushes their agenda and pumps up plastic production to make up for fuel price losses during COVID-19. We can’t physically collect signatures anymore, so we need your help even more to send signatures in. Rising sea levels threaten our community and coastal way of life at the same time. I have been working with our Planning staff, colleagues from around the state, and the Coastal Commission on a set of innovative strategies to address the threat. Our Board adopted a new Local Coastal Plan that includes a set of policies that recognize our coastal geology, take into account our voter-approved land-use policies, and prepare our county to deal with the impacts of sea-level rise. This approach promotes good use of science, creates flexibility in our response, and sets a time horizon of 20 years so we can reconfigure the policies based on the latest science. - @superleopold on Instagram

Clean-up time! We love our oceans and beaches here in Hawaii and its our kuleana (responsibility) to protect them. Pollution in the ocean and onshore is a growing threat to many native species including the beloved honu (green sea turtle) and the ‘Īlioholoikauaua (Hawaiian monk seal). The International Coastal Cleanup started over 30 years ago to fight the growing pollution problem. Last year alone, over 1 million worldwide volunteers collected over 23 million pounds of trash. A few months ago, I took a day trip to the Oregon coast to photograph Denny Dyke and his Circles in the Sand team as they created one of their labyrinths on the beach. They spend a few hours outlining and raking a unique work of art in the sand for visitors to walk and explore before the tide sweeps in and washes away their creation. With a number of drawing events planned throughout the year, it’s worth a trip to check this out. Added bonus -they happened to be working on an engagement proposal while I was there! We live longer, healthier, and better because of single-use plastics.” . Now, to be clear, we are in no way excusing the inexcusable devastation that people caused to our beaches and beauty spots this week. We just reckon that others have the shocked and outraged angle pretty well covered. Were interested in root causes and sustainable solutions. . Make no mistake the plastics (aka OIL) industry view the Covid 19 pandemic as an opportunity and they bloody love it when we heap 100% of the blame on the evil litterbug. Over a year ago, Portland-based artist @timothypwilson came to us with an idea. He wanted to visit and paint from MCHT preserves up and down the coast over the course of a year, documenting the adventure on his Instagram account to raise awareness about MCHT and the effort to conserve Maine’s Coast. He wanted to donate a percentage of sales from the works to MCHT, to the ongoing effort to protect the coast that inspires him and so many other artists. What an idea. What an act of generosity—and in MCHT’s 50th year, no less. We teamed up with Portland gallery @covestreetarts and planned for an exhibition that would have happened right about now. Then COVID hit. Travel was restricted. Everything got upended, including this project. We’re so happy to report that it’s back on now. Timothy is regularly traveling to MCHT preserves, sharing images on social media (and we will be, too). We’ve got a big exhibition planned for fall of 2021 at Cove Street, and, in the meantime, the gallery is now showing a “preview” of the Maine Coast Sojourn running through November 7.
