We are outraged by the continued murder and oppression of Black people and the inhumane police brutality perpetuated by a culture of violent white supremacy. We’ve been quiet as we take a hard look inward to identify racism and inequality within our own house. We commit to making the systemic, long-term changes that we know are critical. We have work to do, and we hold ourselves accountable for making a meaningful impact in the fight to dismantle racism, police brutality, and white supremacy. This means setting clear goals, rethinking internal practices, and being even more intentional in our continued support of local communities. #TBT My name is Patricia Hill Collins. I was born on May 1st, 1948 in Philadelphia. I grew up during the Civil Rights Movement. I received a Bachelors Degree from Brandeis University and a Masters Degree from Harvard University. Growing up as an African American I had to hide away from painful daily assaults and I felt lesser than other races due to my skin color and race. I never had it easy and I was determined to help change the way people look at Black women. I am focused on understanding how African American male and female youths experiences with social issues of education, unemployment, popular culture and political activism articulate with global phenomena, specifically, complex social inequalities, global capitalist development, transnationalism, and political activism. #blackfeminist 🌼 - @collinspatriciahill on Instagram

Martin Luther King Jr. had stayed up until four in the morning the night before the March on Washington, 57 years ago today. And when he finished, he still wasn’t completely satisfied with the end product. He simply ran out of time. What could one really accomplish in five minutes, the time limit for all the speakers that day? King was making his way through his speech when he heard the voice of Mahalia Jackson, the “Queen of Gospel” who had traveled around with King to sing songs in places he gave talks. Jackson had sung two spirituals that day and was no more than 10 feet away from King (circled in red) when, in the middle of the speech she yelled, “Tell them about the dream Martin!” King lit up. He knew what she meant. She was with him in various cities when he uttered the words “I Have A Dream,” with a specific phrase or two about that city. King looked up from his paper and diverted his path. “I say to you today my friends, so although we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I have a Dream.” And the rest is history. King’s tangent became the title of his speech, which was named the best speech of the 20th Century by American Rhetoric. - MUST BE REVEALED 2020 THE TRUTH THAT HAS BEEN....
A week ago today, I participated in the campaigns #BlackOutTuesday and #TheShowMustBePaused in an effort to raise awareness about police brutality and systemic racism. From then, until now, I took sometime to put a pause on my usual social media activity in order to amplify the voices of the Black Lives Matter movement as well as to educate myself. . It was great to see the unity and solidarity from the people of Calgary this past week in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. And as a photographer, I believe that documenting this movement as well as raising awareness on my personal platform, is in part, my responsibility. . As I reflect the events that happened this past week as well as the events leading up, I realize posting a black square isn’t enough to make a real change and that it’s not enough to be “not racist”. . . . . #antiracism #justiceforahmaud #justiceforgeorgefloyd #justiceforbreonnataylor #icantbreathe #protest #yyc #dontshoot #complex #complexcanada #filmgrain #drivebyfilm #filmforever #burbsonfilm #believeinfilm #analogphotography #back2thebase #filmisnotdead #kodakfilm #filmwave #ilfordhp5 - @the_floyd_g on Instagram
