This weeks artist of the week is a friend of ours and we shared some lovely nights already: French producer and live artist @leopolmusic. At only 28 years old, Leo-Pol Poirel has already been practicing electronic music for over a decade and gained an impressive array of titles; label boss, resident of one of the most renowned clubs in the world, multidisciplinary producer. It was back in 2015 when he released an anonymous EP on his label Uniile which really put his name on the map. The track “You Got The Funk” reached over 4 million views on YouTube. Leo went on to found his second label, @iilerecords, focused on analog 90’s house with a powerful edge. With a string of impressive releases under his belt and a budding reputation of an enigmatic live set, it was no surprise that in 2016 Paris’ infamous house and techno club @concrete.paris signed him as a resident. He also went on to release an EP on the clubs label Concrete Music. He now travels the world, with analog gear in tow, playing some of the best clubs in the world – @berghain_panoramabar, @printworkslondon, @shelteramsterdam, @dc10ibizaofficial, @robertjohnsonclub, @iboatbordeaux, @motionbristol and so on. Sure, I got some scratches from today’s protest, a stun grenade exploded on my foot, and got tear gassed like 5 times....but this is nothing compared to the consistent systemic racism and oppression of people of color. I am completely okay, I have the luxury to be okay and alive today. You know who’s doesn’t have that luxury? George Floyd. And all the innocent black people who have been murdered at the hand of police violence. There needs to be accountability in our “justice” system. Where is the justice? I don’t condone protester violence, but shit, more is being done now than ever because of this violence. Hate me if you want, but this is a sad truth. And for you at home... it might be inconvenient to go out of your way to help a cause that might not affect you directly. But I bet it was more than inconvenient for George Floyd to get murdered.
