DEAR (insert gossip mag of choice here).... Just a quick question from my kids: why, in a time of #pandemic, #economic disaster and #climate crisis would you waste valuable column inches on a #story about their #Mum wrestling with a giant @Pepapig colouring book? While it didn’t rank as high in the scale of ‘complete irrelevance’ as that time you published 18 pics of me carrying a box of @sultanabran it was still a letdown after the dizzying heights of having my ‘clean laundry’ aired while you pictorially raked over the coals of my relationship (much to the humiliation of my #babies) or followed me to a secluded river with a long lens to capture a #kiss with my partner. Sure, these gushing revelations had the desired ‘clutch my pearls, reach for the pandadol’ effect, But this last story? #Why? I’ve a D-grade #celebrity diva reputation to uphold!!! These images look so...normal..flattering even! Where’s the awkward angle? The cellulite? The imminent #trainwreck ??? I know there exists an uneasy symbiosis between #media and ‘stars’ (mind you I’m about as stellar as a black hole these days) but I’d just ask, next time you receive a tip from an ‘insider’ or ‘close friend’ coupled with a clutch of personal pics, remember there is another #human on the other side of that long lens. In my case, a Mum, currently #unemployed, who takes on no #sponsorships or #endorsements but tries hard to give back rather than give up. I’m active on social media, sure, because I love sharing stories WITH PERMISSION. Over the years I’ve had to offer many uncomfortable explanations of the salacious tales you’ve spun about me to my little tribe, but explaining why their coloring book made it to press left even me scratching my head.... these seemingly small intrusions lead quickly to large intrusions and any one persons private moments are just that and only that..PRIVATE. But I do understand. So, here’s my suggestion: any time you wanna use those precious column inches to discuss #homelessness , regenerating #rainforests , the plight of #refugees or the #sexualexploitation of #children you know where I am. Its been awhile since weve featured a Core Goods Member, and were excited to introduce Carrie Hohmann Campbell! . Carrie is from Oil City and studied English with a creative writing concentration at @alleghenycollege. She also received her MFA in poetry from the @nyuartsandscience Creative Writing Program and works as an Assistant Professor of English at @edinborou. Carrie has published two poetry chapbooks (the most recent being “Drawn to Extinction” released by Finishing Line Press) and likes to write poetry and nonfiction about places she has traveled, nature, and attempts at homesteading. . Her “food journey” began at a young age when her dad grew veggies in his half acre plot. He inspired Carrie to appreciate how to raise good food and her mom inspired her by cooking with it. Along with her husband Jake Campbell, she became interested in producing pasture-raised meat and started with just 10 laying hens and 15 meat birds, which has grown to rabbits, pigs, meat chickens, laying hens, and occasionally ducks and turkeys. Carrie is trying to read up on permaculture to see how they can integrate its concepts into their garden and surrounding areas. . Carrie’s family tries to eat as many local, seasonal, and minimally processed foods as possible for their health and the health of the planet—which is one reason they shop at Core Goods. Their favorite items include sesame sticks, chocolate chips, peanuts, raisins, dried cranberries, 50/50 flour, soups, kombucha, olive oil, spices, and produce. . “Besides the food, we love reusing our jars and minimizing our use of plastic. Using mesh bags for produce is a big advantage and even with curbside pickup, the produce bags are compostable,” Carrie said. “I was worried how we’d continue to get high quality food during the Coronavirus shutdown, but Core Goods provided a quick, creative, and safe response that kept me out of any mainstream grocery store for two months. EDELWEISS Kata inilah yang membuat saya menerawang berada di Lembah Surya Kencana, Gunung Gede, Cibodas / Cipanas, Jawa Barat. Sejauh mata memandang, hanya hamparan Bunga Edelweiss yang nampak membentang di lembah Surya Kencana seluas puluhan hektar. Untuk menuju lembah tsb, kita harus mendaki Gunung Gede, dengan ketinggian lebih dari 2900m DPL (Diatas Permukaan Laut). Pendakian dimulai dari Cibodas dan waktu yg tepat untuk mendaki adalah malam hari sekitar jam.21.00-22.00, agar bisa tiba di puncak gunung untuk menyaksikan matahari terbit. Sungguh... pendakian yang mengesankan tapi sangat melelahkan, dengan seribu tantangan yang terkadang membuat kita hampir menyerah... Kemudian dari puncak gunung, saya menuruni tebing menuju Lembah Surya Kencana. Itulah secuil pengalaman saya sebagai Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam. Btw... Suatu ketika, saya dipercaya sebagai Ketua Club Mahasiswa Pecinta Alam. Anggotanya mayoritas cewek. Kebayang donk... betapa ribet dan hebohnya cewek-cewek saat pendakian. Tapi disitulah keseruannya... gak bakal lupa deh...!. Tiada putus-putusnya hati ini mengagumi ciptaan Allah. Setelah tiba di Lembah Surya Kencana... saya langsung menggenggam bunga Edelweiss dan menciumnya dengan lembut. Bunganya yang putih & cantik, bisa bertahan sampai 10 tahun gak akan layu. Pohon yang tingginya hanya sekitar 1.5m saya peluk erat... seakan gak rela kalau sampai terlepas dari pelukan... Kelelahan selama pendakian lenyap sudah...! Bunga Edelweiss ditemukan oleh George Carl Reinwardt, pada tahun 1819 di Gunung Gede. Edelweiss juga sangat terkenal di luar negri dan tumbuh subur di beberapa negara. Pernah dicetak sebagai mata uang koin dan diabadikan sebagai simbol negara di Eropa. Di Indonesia dicetak sebagai perangko pada tahun 2003. Semoga tetap Lestari... There’s no easy way to say this but George’s family is having tremendous difficulty making ends meet and despite the enormous financial burden of his funeral at 25 years of age he has a child. A wonderful daughter that will tragically grow up without a father. Please help if you can. I know these are tough times for all of us but we are only going to get through this by helping one another and being there for our community. North Eastern Vegetable - Duku is wildly popular, super healthy, nutritious and very easy to make. These tender, young shoots from mustard plants are cooked to make one of most delicious tarkaari, much loved by North easterns. When the mustard plant is allowed to mature, they start making flowering shoots and it is called duku in local term. The shoots are then picked when they are young and tender. Before cooking, the outer covering and fibers should be peeled from all sides of the shoots. The dukus can be eaten cooked alone, but usually the shoots and young mustard are cooked together. Just a little stroll through the pack house. David is one of our farm managers and is meticulous with quality control (which we love). We hold these stems at 34°F / 1°C to prevent the bulbs from opening too soon 🌡️ The stems are stored here until they are ready to pack + ship and make it you your door overnight. The buds take about 48 hours to bloom and is (personally) the best part of the peony experience.
