We have created a poster and accompanying text to highlight the plight of some of the UK’s rapidly disappearing wildlife, most of which is put at risk by human activities and loss of habitat. The poster was designed as part of the 26 Wild project—instigated by writing organisation 26 and @thewildlifetrusts charity. Based on words by longtime collaborator (and founder of 26) John Simmons, it explores the theme of ‘disappearance’. Recent analysis shows the UK is currently one of most nature-depleted countries in the world – the campaign aims to raise awareness of Britain’s endangered species as well as highlight the important work carried out by the Wildlife Trusts. 56 members of 26 were asked to choose an animal from a list of wildlife in danger. The brief was to create a centena, which is a 100-word-long piece of poetry or prose, that has the same three words at the beginning as it does at the end. While the animal’s name appears in the title, it does not appear in the centena itself – this emphasises the idea of animals disappearing. The poster created to promote the campaign is double-sided—on one side a bold typographic statement asks us to consider a world without the beautiful song of the nightingale, the other lists some of Britain’s wildlife which is most in danger. 26 is currently crowdfunding a book of poems to highlight our vulnerable species and raise vital funds for The Wildlife Trusts –. MAKE IT HAPPEN: My Story of Gymnastics, the Olympics, and the Positive Power of Sport. This is my book and I am so proud of it. I held a freshly printed copy in my hands a couple of weeks ago and it felt so damn good. Writing this book has been a goal of mine for years and with the help of a talented team, including my co-writer @roseblythelawrence, we got it across the finish line. What a feeling! Today, I wanted to announce that I will be postponing the official release until Spring 2021. Waiting another year feels like an eternity, but considering the current circumstances, it also feels right and so I’m rolling with it. I’m too excited about this project, however, to have it sit entirely on a shelf until the launch next year. I’ve decided to read the book, one chapter a day, on my Instagram Live during the month of May. Story time with Kyle - this is going to be FUN!! five years ago today, my first film premiered @ifccenter in downtown manhattan. it was one of the first documentary films from PUERTO RICO to receive a theatrical release in the united states, and it tells the story of how PUERTO RICAN TRANS QUEER communities organized to pass the first anti-discrimination bill protecting LGBTQ+ individuals in the history of the island. we fought for months to get the film into theaters, and after opening, its run was extended twice due to demand. we had no marketing budget, we had no celebrity endorsements, and we hand-delivered the posters to the theater ourselves. we knew we were on the front lines of fighting for representation, and the experience for me was a horrifying, dizzying baptism by fire. racism is a coercive, multi-dimensional hydra, and up until that point i had the privilege of not knowing as much. so much has changed in that time, yet there’s still so much more work to do. the life of this film has been complicated, and will be articulated in its own time in a more appropriate space, though as the guardian of this work, this anniversary has got me feeling emotional, proud, and more committed than ever. thank you MALA MALA, and the entire MALA team for teaching me how to see, how to do, how to be. vive PUERTO RICO, vive MALA MALA! - @dan_sickles on Instagram

The 400 Hurdles is an unforgiving race. You are required to run at 400m sprint pace while successfully clearing 10 obstacles in the most efficient way possible. This is #SustainabilityAgainstShame. Welcome to this new movement, that is as much yours as its mine. It aims to stop shaming for profit. Because that persistent way of selling us products doesnt only make us feel bad about ourselves, it also makes it nearly impossible to behave sustainably. We need to keep buying (and buying and buying to belong. We keep hearing we are not good enough - day in, day out since we are born. Our size, our skin, our eating habits, our sexual orientation, our age, they are not okay. Most of the messaging we receive is specifically intended to make us not like ourselves. That is terrible enough in itself (whole generations develop a negative self-image because of this), but it also means that we cant stop treating the earth terribly. We are shamed into shopping, and need to actively recognise the way this system works. To not only save ourselves, but the world too. Enough is enough! That is why I am launching this movement. #SustainabilityAgainstShame is there to help us feel good and be good to the people and planet too. And we do it together. There is lots you can do to make this happen. You can find all ways in the images of this post. Please share them as much as you can! Lets put the link between shaming and sustainability on the map! Be yourself, and change the world. I have had amazing help putting this movement together. The unretouched, natural light pictures of me (wearing lipstick only) were made by the fab @nourish_atelier (follow her, she is an amazing photographer and chef!), with assistance by the lovely @_ingehopman_.
