Today is #NationalFitnessDay which made me reminisce on when (and why!) I started this journey to begin with. . On the left, I was eating exclusively fast food. Yes, I know I look “fine” and I would have agreed with you. But I didn’t *feel* fine. I had really bad digestive + GI issues and felt sluggish non-stop. I thought these things were normal 🤷‍♀️ until I realized... they’re not. . I started my fitness journey first and foremost to heal my body from the inside, out. Any physical change was just the cherry on top. I won’t say I didn’t care about the physical changes at all, but instead of wanting to be “skinny” I wanted to be STRONG and seeing that strength + all my hard work in the gym (and with my nutrition) come to life via my physical body, was so exciting and empowering!! . I never thought this type of physical change was possible. I chalked up anyone who was fit to their genetics, or to their extreme lifestyle + that they *MUST* have lived in the gym. I didn’t know that while yes, genetics play a part, your daily habits play a larger part. The photo on the right, I was eating 80/20 and working out 4x a week for 1 hr and eventually transitioned to 6x a week for 30 mins (FBG!! 😁) That’s it! . I never thought I could be “that person” who created a lifestyle surrounding fitness. I never wanted to be, honestly. But I needed to change the path my health was heading down, and I eventually fell in love with the journey. I fell in love with feeling actually energized for once!! I fell in love with feeling STRONG. . This is exactly why I created my FBG guides + eventually, the @fitbodyapp. I knew firsthand just how hard it is to get started AND to stay on track. I wanted to be sure that none of you girls ever had to struggle with figuring out what workouts to do or what meals to eat in order to get the most out of your time and effort. . As I’m starting my journey again from scratch, I’m reminded of how hard it is. How discouraging it is to feel so weak. But this journey is largely a mental one, much more than a physical one. September 22, 2020 My favorite #transformationTuesday this far. #triggerwaring (ED talk) I took the pic on the left during one of my Christmas breaks in college. That night I was so happy bc I went to a party and a girl told me I ate like a small baby bird. At college I made excel sheets for my classes that scheduled in at least 2 workouts a day, and another sheet for calories in vs calories burned and if my total calories for the day wasnt in the negatives, I was devastated. I believed beyond any doubt that my worth was inextricably tied to my weight. The less I weighed, the more I was worth. It was ROUGH. Even at my smallest I was told I was in the healthy range for my height #yikes Flash forward ~ 8 years and @toneitup recently used the pic on the right during a news segment they were on. Like, there I was pushing 180, in a bikini, on a tv and ABSOLUTELY in love with everything about myself. I felt so freaking proud I cannot even explain it in words. Like wow, look at how far I have come. From my body making me just want to cease to exist, to looking on it with nothing but love and pride with an additional 40ish pounds on my frame. This journey is absolutely not about losing weight. Losing weight by itself wont make you happy or bring you any sort of joy (honestly). This journey is learning to love yourself wherever you are. And loving yourself regardless of what changes your body goes through. Its about prioritizing self-love, care + health over a number. And this community provides support and a group to lean on during struggles AND a group to celebrate all your successes. It’s my 35th birthday today. What a fucking year. I spent the first 6 months of the last year flying pretty high. My business was experiencing extreme growth, my mental clarity and self love was at an all time high and I just felt like I had hit my groove in life. On March 3rd everything could have fallen apart. In the span of a few seconds all of that could have disappeared. I was in a car accident that totaled both my car and my right eye. The second half of this year has been one of the greatest adventures of my life. My business despite a pandemic is still experiencing extreme growth and it was able to do that because I have an incredible business partner and friend and together we have built an amazing team of women that didn’t miss a beat when I suddenly couldn’t work. My self awareness became more acute than ever. I finally accepted that I am enough and that I am loved- both concepts I’ve struggled with my whole life. I have a renewed sense of purpose for what I want to contribute to the world. I have struggled in what has felt like extreme and subtle ways. But I have also experienced intense feelings of peace and acceptance. Every day has been harder since the accident, but every day has also been more beautiful. I experienced more growth, more pain, more doubt and more certainty this year than ever before. What up, party people. Here’s a few (very important) things I wish I knew from the very beginning. There is no perfect diet. It’s highly individual. The best diet is one that’s easily sustainable for you and one you’re able to be consistent with without absolutely hating yourself and your life, for a LONG time. Cardio is not ALL you should do. It’s not necessary for fat loss even though it is necessary for health. You don’t have to be the strongest person in the world to be strong. You can be hella freaking strong and not lift the biggest weight in the gym. Strength training is so PRACTICAL. And not just for lugging all 12 bags of groceries in one trip. Having to hold yourself up with just your upper body because your legs aren’t working and your back is excruciating pain will teach you that rather quickly, 🤪 and I don’t even want to know how I would’ve done (or how sore my arms would’ve been lol) had I not been dedicatedly strength training before my injury. It’s normal to have a crappy workout - not every workout is gonna be a banger. But if you consistently have crappy workouts, evaluate. Recent sleep, recent nutrition, recent caloric intake, recent stress, recent head space. Also, sometimes you just have a crappy workout and that’s ok. Love y’all. ✌🏻🖤 - @irisdeadlifts on Instagram

I didnt think I deserved anything else. 1 year 365 Days ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 155.6 POUNDS LOST 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 I’ve always been BIG/ FAT/ PLUS SIZE Being told that I couldn’t ride roller coasters because the security system could close around me. Or I would get literally stuck in it... ( Disney world May-2019) Then it was the shame of needing help to get out, people looking at me and laughing. It was the “you can slide down theses water slide because you could fall out of it”. I didn’t know better so I rolled with the punches. Thinking I was happy ... Being bubbly and kind and sweet to make sure that people would like me and be kind to me and maybe even respect me.... At my heaviest, I was 320 pounds, may 2019... Then summer 2019 happened... My amazing aunt and uncle came to visit us... They gave me a chance in life that could never taught would be possible. They offered to help me with my surgery... The most beautiful gift I’ve ever had. They are my second set of parents. I love them so much, always. I’ve looked up to them as individuals and as a couple. Strength, love, kindness, thrust and truthfulness are just some of the qualities they have and taught me. I am so grateful and humble to have them in my life. So from that famous night to surgery day, it was less then 9 weeks. Easiest most difficult decision ever that brought me to live the most amazing hard year ever. Making the choice to choose me, myself and I.... So hard. So If y’all did the math.... 164.4 pounds is my current weight. Lost a whole adult human.... In a year... But mostly in this year i’ve discovered a new/real me. I’ve learn to look at myself in the mirror to see my transformation. To fall in love with myself... Well talking about love... This year brought me an amazing man. Someone that I am happy to do life with. A gastric bypass surgery is not easy. It’s not the easy way of loosing weight. It’s a work in progress.
