Donated from Pink Floyd Sax man Scott Page’s collection, all the proceeds will go to the Harold Robinson Foundation to empower inner city youth. August 18, 1996. 24 years ago I played the Whiskey opening for the Groovie Ghoulies and AFI. I was 17. The band was Clean X which eventually morphed into Death By Stereo. Going back to 1999, as a Tower Records display artist, I did this one for the release of Beastie Boys Anthology: The Sounds of Science. The band logo, all lettering and 3-D elements were foam-board cut out by hand with an X-acto knife. I poked out a hole for each bulb so the Christmas lights would rotate around the the logo. The black and yellow picture of the band were traced from photocopies and painted on with acrylic. Finished it off with an aluminum foil wrapped sardine can sculpture. Flashback...5yrs ago... DShaw and I were walking down the street in Aspen and managed to convince these fellas to let us have our photo taken in large format for their film project - we wanted them for postcards. That photo was found on a casting site some two years later and someone reached out to me to be in a shoe commercial. (sorry Dave you probably just missed the first email) That was my first time as ‘talent’ after a decade wrangling the actually talented around. I don’t know how I had the courage to jump off that Reving rocket but I don’t look back. Except to say how much I love that family, and their new families today. Funny...I never made it into that commercial but it gave me the ‘bug’ I guess - better said, the okay to get out of my head and be a creator vs a facilitator. So here I am 30 years ago, flanked by my dear pals Ben Shaul to my right and Justin (Juzzie) Allen to my left. Ben and I arrived in NYC on November 1 1986, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, looking for adventure and opportunities. And Juzzie, my old London roommate and future best man, joined us about a year later. This photograph was taken by Dana Brockman at a friends loft in Soho during one of those steaming hot NYC summer nights. All four of us remain best friends to this day. This week, much of our content at Mr Feelgood has friendship at its heart. Rest In Peace to a true friend, Riley Gale. We woke up to terrible news this morning and the whole day went in reminiscing the things we experienced together. We booked a small club show for Power Trip in Helsinki at the end of their first European tour in late 2013. They had just dropped Manifest Decimation LP and we were playing the first three tracks of Helsinki Savagery LP live for the first time. 90 tickets were sold and the crowd consisted of mostly familiar faces. A few years and many shared stages and experiences later in 2019 they played at a festival in the same city in front of tens of thousands. Riley and Power Trip put in work and much more to make it happen. And what makes it even more admirable they never turned their backs to where they came from in that process. They kept supporting the DIY, friends and bands of the smaller scale. It is humbling to think of the amount of people and lives positively affected by Riley’s art and personality. I could write an essay on the importance these two had, in not only my life but SO MANY others, in Wilkes Barre and around the world. At 15, i met @danielgcxuk and he said “so are you straightedge or what?”. Years later, he basically forced me to go to Richmond with him on weekends to meet his friends there, Guerilla Crew. @iambobbymac went out of his way to support my very first pop punk band and then was pivotal in developing my taste in music. He let us play huge shows at Homebase, which we had no biz playing, let me cohost his college radio show once, and of course was responsible for the best shows and hardcore fest to ever exist, Posi Numbers Fest. Bobb and Dan are Wilkes Barre hardcore LEGENDS, And without these two, generations of bands and friendships might not even exist and that’s not up for debate. 25 years ago my band rocket from the crypt released “hot charity”… It was only available on vinyl until years later, and was followed up by a tour where all the shows we played were free to get into… I know right?
