Moving in to my final theater week as a professional. I don’t enjoy long posts but I just wanted to say how grateful I am to have been a part of @cltballet and to have danced as long as I have. Tasteful Lewds 2020 // Experiments with Light . At the end of January, my friends and I threw a music festival in Santa Cruz called Polar Palooza. As part of my creative contribution to the event, I setup a photo/projection studio with Jamie Rosenberg (JAR Photo) and let festival attendees volunteer to model using improvised shoot themes and visual content. . One of the goals of the shoot was to see what sort of results we could get from a compact studio setup that cost under $100. Our setup consisted of utilizing 2 small RGB flood lights from Amazon, 8x10 collapsible backdrop frame, and 8x15 black backdrop. Jamie brought along his trusty camera and I brought a 1024x768 Hitachi Projector (old school) I had laying around for the projection mapping portion. From setup to teardown, the shoot lasted roughly 4 hours and we managed to get through over 15 unique models. . Encased. . . This is me. I never know what “international day” it is (I’m lucky if I know what weekday it is!). I’m always out of the loop. I try too hard to keep our house clean (because literally only the people that live in it see it and they clearly do not care). I eat really healthy then like crap. I want to hold newborns forever and I want badly to have more babies (I cannot). I feel uneducated a lot but I have an extensive knowledge of useless information and song lyrics. My Pinterest thinks I’m a witch because my search history consists exclusively of plants, garden, and Halloween decor. I feel like I’m just really getting to know myself now at 33 and it’s the oddest thing. All my life I haven’t felt like I’m enough of anything. I first saw the amazing work by @flowersbyjuliarose a few years ago (see Costa’s floral beard in a previous post) and I knew I had to work with her. She’s incredible how she can create stunning botanical couture out of all kinds of plants, flowers and tree bark. The things we just walk past, she turns into wearable artworks. I was so chuffed to get the chance to create some imagery with her in what I feel like is an extension of my Extinguish project exploring the beauty in everyday found objects. Frustration - the scream Hope and frustration. When we are going through a pandemic, have a void in global leadership, it is hard to feel that all is well. However, voids are always filled. Lack of leadership results in leadership change and more reliance on ourselves. In other words, we look elsewhere. Poor if not divisive leadership around the world results in the shift from looking for political to economic and thought leadership. We have already shifted towards leadership form scientists, corporations who we can hold accountable, and ourselves. There is no surprise that politicians are always self-serving. It is not a surprise that they are not well informed, not truthful. Then we look elsewhere. Scientists have been at the forefront in exposing misinformation and deceit. Corporations have banded together and looking for an alternative more equitable environment, employment, opportunity, education. discontent at policing went unaccountable, need to be accountable even if we need to completely restructure our law enforcement effort around the nation. Democracies are slower, but when awoken and realize injustice, are unstoppable. Reform and change are in progress. Frustration is the phase before the will to change. we should embrace our anger and look forward to a better world. Before leaving Toronto I had the opportunity to do a shoot with @nuovoartisticphotography. It was the most empowering experience and different than any photoshoot I’ve ever done. I’m keeping the majority of the photos to myself and the entire shoots photos were gifted to my amazing partner for our anniversary yesterday. Thank you @citylightlinds for making the experience so amazing. The photos turned out AMAZING And I have never felt more comfortable or empowered in so little in my life. If you are thinking about shooting with Nuovo - do it. If you’re thinking about doing a photoshoot period - especially boudoir- be sure you are comfortable with your photographer before going through with it.
