Chrysler Building Höchstes Gebäude New Yorks: Mai 1930-Mai 1931 319 Meter Das Chrysler Building gilt als die Architektur- und Wolkenkratzer-Ikone schlechthin und ist vermutlich das beste und berühmteste Beispiel des Art Déco. Eigentlich sollte das Hochhausprojekt vom Architekten William Van Alen das höchste der Welt werden und nach 17 langen Jahren das Woolworth Building ablösen. Leider jedoch musste man sich im April 1930 dem Projekt von H. Craig Severence und der Manhattan Bank geschlagen geben, nachdem sie mit dem Bau der Spitze das Gebäude mit 283 m über die Höhe des Chrysler Buildings drückte, welches nur 282 m erreichte. Doch um diesen Hohn zu wiederstehen baute man still und heimlich eine 37 Meter lange spitze die man am Ende durch die Krone stieß und das Gebäude so auf 319 Meter schraubte! Somit erreichte das Chrysler Building auch den Titel des höchsten Bauwerks aller Zeiten und übertraf den bereits 1889 erbauten Eiffelturm in Paris. Dieses ambitionierte Ziel hatten sich Severence und sein Team an der Wall Street nicht gesetzt. Als Resultat zählt das Chrysler Building nicht nur zu den schönsten Wolkenkratzern, wenn nicht sogar als der schönste Wolkenkratzer, sondern befand sich bis in die 1990er-Jahre auch noch unter den Top 10 der höchsten Wolkenkratzer, was zeigt, welche Meisterleistung den Ingenieuren, aber auch den Arbeiten in den 1930er-Jahren gelungen war. Die Spitze samt den charakterlichen Wasserspeiern, die Radkappen und Kühlerfiguren der Chrysler Automobile nachbildeten waren aus rostfreiem Stahl gebaut. Der Chrysler Konzern allerdings zog nie in das Gebäude ein, sondern blieb in Detroit, wollte dadurch aber nur die Macht und das Können des Unternehmen unter Beweis stellen. - @theforgottennyc on Instagram

Designed by Aedas Executive Director Cary Lau, Tak Shing House Redevelopment project is located near Theatre Lane in the heart of Hong Kong’s CBD. The Grade-A office tower will refresh the urban neighbourhood. As the preface of the development, Aedas creatively designs an elegant construction hoarding to blend the site into Hong Kong’s most prestigious central business district. Located at Theatre Lane, a street named after the former Queen’s Theatre, the design was inspired by the district’s glamour through the use of lights and shadows. A poetic design approach is adopted in addition to fulfilling the function of ensuring public safety. An intimate ambience light is created in respite of the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. This slide of a perspective drawing by Helmut Jacoby of Norman Fosters proposed extension to the Whitney Museum, New York (late 1970s) pictures the remarkable giant triangulated structure that acted as a rigid base for the tower rising above. In contrast to Breuers earlier building, Norman Foster wanted the new Whitney galleries to be open, with a full-height glazed atrium giving on to Madison Avenue.
