On this day in 1985: 35 years ago on the 21st September 1985 a monster was lifted from the depths of Loch Ness. That monster was a Wellington Bomber, which ditched into Loch Ness during a training flight on 31st December 1940. It lay hidden at the bottom of the Loch until an American team of Nessie hunters came across it during a survey in 1976. To save the aircraft a salvage operation was launched, led by Loch Ness Wellington Association Ltd. Thanks to public donations and funding from National Heritage Memorial Fund the WW2 bomber was successfully raised out of the Loch and transported home to Brooklands, the place it was built, for restoration. The Loch Ness Wellington, ‘R for Robert’, now takes centre stage in the Brooklands Aircraft Factory exhibition and you can come and see it and discover more about its incredible story every day the Museum is open. PORTUGALSKO DESERTNO VINO; Porto je vino kontroliranog zemljopisnog pordrijetla, čija je povijest usko vezana uz grad Porto u čijim se podrumima (adegas) uz rijeku Douro to piće proizvodilo i skladištilo. Brodari koji su prevozili to vino bačvama u Englesku, dosjetili su se kako da povećaju količinu dopremljenog vina, tako što su ga u Portu prokuhali, a u Engleskoj mu dodali vode i tako su dobili veće količine. Der französische Reederei- und Logistikkonzern ist damit der erste in seiner Branche, der sich für Flüssigerdgas als Antrieb für seine größten Schiffe entscheidet. Insgesamt neun 23.300 TEU-LNG-Containerschiffe hat CMA CGM in Auftrag gegeben und bekennt sich so zum Umweltschutz und zur Energiewende der Branche. The John W. Weeks Bridge spans the Charles River and connects Harvard’s Cambridge and Allston campuses. The bridge was designed by McKim, Mead & White and is named after John W. Weeks, former Secretary of War during Warren G. Hardings administration. Harvard University gifted the bridge to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the construction was made possible through donations from thirteen friends and business associates of Weeks. #OnThisDay – On this day in 1989, the Lowcountry began feeling the effects of Hurricane Hugo, a category four storm, which made landfall around midnight on September 22. With maximum sustained winds of 135-140 mph and the largest storm tide heights ever recorded on the east coast, the storm caused tremendous damage throughout the area. Water surged over the seawall and flooded many first floors in downtown Charleston. 80% of roofs suffered damage, and over one hundred buildings were severely structurally impaired or collapsed. Mount Pleasant experienced heavy wind destruction to buildings and trees. Beach communities such as Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms and Folly Beach lost numerous homes and businesses. Roads were impassable due to debris and many went weeks without power. Truly a storm that will not be forgotten in the Lowcountry. The site for the Kentish Flats Offshore Wind Farm is a large, flat and shallow plateau north of Herne Bay and Whitstable, approximately 60 kilometres east of central London. The wind farm is arranged in a regular grid of five rows in an east-west orientation. Each row consists of six turbines, and they occupy an area of 10 km2 just outside the main Thames shipping lanes. The spacing between each turbine and the rows of turbines is 700 metres.
