Friends are as genetically similar as their fourth cousins. Rich tends to select rich, educated tends to select educated. Tops stay at the top, bottoms stay at the bottom. Advantages and disadvantages are inherited across generations. In short, authority is not established in one day with one individual. People select each other. Society stratifies and gets linked by superior-subordinate relationships. Hierarchy trickles down. Despite all this selection and homophily, the existence of the unlike is a probabilistic certainty. In societies where differences are not accepted or even dismissed, different skills are seen as deficiencies rather than potentials. So, regardless of its strata, the unalike one always stays secluded. To protect the strata, authority must eat the unlike. From Dogu’s exposition at G.P. 08, authority is the parental home. The child feels the ascendancy of authority with its whole body, in every corner of the house. In the bathroom, at the breakfast table or behind the curtain. She has mom’s nose, dad’s hair; elderly has also shown him how to play over and over again; but, she cannot ever do well. The unlike always wants to hide as it is both his genetic disposition and what society has chosen for him. Desafio @masp. A obra desta semana é ‘A compoteira de peras’’, de Fernand Léger. De origem humilde, Léger (1881-1955) foi aprendiz em um escritório de arquitetura antes de estudar na École des Arts Décoratifs e na Académie Julian, em Paris. O cubismo de Léger foi marcado por linhas fortes que delineiam os objetos, preenchidos por áreas monocromáticas e pelo sombreamento que lhes confere volume. Esses fundamentos foram difundidos pelos seus textos, entre eles, L’esthétique de la machine [A estética da máquina] (1923). Além de suas incursões no teatro, Léger produziu, em 1924, o Ballet mécanique [Balé mecânico], primeiro filme abstrato da história do cinema, dirigido em parceria com Dudley Murphy (1897-1968), com a colaboração de Man Ray (1890-1976). A compoteira de peras dialoga com suas experiências nessas várias linguagens, ao referir-se a temas do cotidiano com um tratamento geométrico, dinâmico, que dilui na vida comum a estética e as cores da indústria. Os contornos grossos e as áreas de cor uniformes e sombreadas são influências reconhecíveis na obra da brasileira Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973), sua aluna em Paris nos anos 1920. St James Church in Mahora, Hastings, was designed by Len Hoogerbrug in 1958-59 and completed in 1963. When it first opened, the building was praised, but over the years it has been largely left out of our national architectural story. Photographer David Straight (@david_._straight) and architect Giles Reid (@gilesreidarchitects) have teamed up to create a book about this fine example of New Zealand Modernism in an effort to rescue the church from obscurity. This well-known futurist painting has been called the most outstanding example of Estonian modernism. The artist used watercolours to emphasise the dynamism and volatility of the depicted scene. The work has all the hallmarks of futurism, with the choice of location – metropolitan Paris – being the most significant. This is no River Emajõgi, slowly meandering through provincial Tartu, but the River Seine, with its speeding steamboats and banks teeming with life. ✡ Svetová architektúra v Žiline, ktorú zachránilo nadľudské úsilie. Sme radi, že prichádzame s výstavou práve do Novej synagógy. Všetkých 209 grafík uvidíte od 8. do 20. septembra. Vytvorili sme novú grafiku synagógy a prišli sme s ňou do Žiliny o deň skôr. Niekoľko kusov sme darovali ľuďom zo synagógy. Zvyšok sme zobrali na stanicu Záriečie, ktorú to isté združenie tiež premenilo na kultúrne centrum európskeho formátu. Synagógu navrhol svetoznámy nemecký architekt Peter Behrens, priekopník modernizmu aj priemyselného staviteľstva. Stala sa jednou z najdôležitejších stavieb na Slovensku a vďačiť za to môžeme architektonickej súťaži z roku 1928. Vieme, čo prišlo potom. Totalita najprv pripravila Židov o ich práva a následne väčšinu z nich zavraždili. Do synagógy sa už nikdy nevrátili. Stal sa z nej sklad obilia a nábytku. Neskôr kultúrny dom, školská aula a kino. Keď sa v roku 2011 ocitla synagóga v ponuke na prenájom, ujali sa jej záchrancovia zo združenia Truc Sphérique v zmluve na 30 rokov. Odvtedy tvrdo pracujú na jej premene na kultúrne centrum. Kúsok po kúsku, ale už nechýba veľa. Toto napísali pred rokmi: „Našou základnou motiváciou je samotná budova. Je múdra aj krásna.“ Autorom grafiky je dizajnér Ondrej Gavalda, ktorý pre nás navrhol koncepciu výstavy. V Žiline si ho pamätajú z doby, keď tvoril graffiti. “No day shall erase you from the memory of time”- Virgil #neverforget I’ll never forget where I was this day, 19 years ago. I was tying ribbons around our wedding favors. Rob and I were getting married on that Saturday - September 15. I remember tears running down my face as I watched Katie Couric reporting as the second tower was hit. It is a day, a week, a time that will forever be at the front of my mind. We took our kids to the 9/11 museum a few years ago and is where I took this photo. If you haven’t been, it is a must. A more perfect illustration of juxtaposition, there could never be, Than that of my favourite building, and the fear that lives in me. I fear a life of crisp straight lines, A life by rules and uniformity designed. Conformity enforced, a rigid acceptance criteria, The doctrines of one look, one behaviour, one thought, nothing could be scarier. My favourite building is, and you can definitely see, a clear juxtaposition of that which brings fear in me. Unique it is every way, no line can be found, in its neighbourhood it definitely sings its own sound. It speak to freedom of expression, to curves and free flow, It speaks to beauty and individuality, inspiration all will will know. The contrast profound to that which I fear, Tho opposite to my nightmares, the distinctions are clear. A bright coloured building with many shapes and forms, Breaking perceptions in its beauty defying accepted norms. Individual and unique, not governed by era or previous design. It stands for life in variety, unparalleled freedom defined. So what do you fear, what drives you to hide? What makes your world, a place in which you cannot abide? Somewhere out there, there is a voice to combat your fear. Someone, something that will comfort you and inspire you, my dear. Whatever you face, that seems to much to bare, There is a remedy, a tale, an inspiration out there. So when your fears have you whipped and confined to a cell, Remember its opposite and into it face date and yell. Cette « Histoire de la Charpenterie » a été crée pour célébrer le bicentenaire de la construction en 1820 de cette belle maison de maître par Florent Lemercier Lepré, notable angevin fortuné, bonapartiste, maire de la commune de Cornillé les Caves, mort sans postérité en 1862. Un premier logis XVe puis l’exploitation des closeries comme menuiseries charpenteries, la terre sera acquise fin XVIIIe par la famille Lemercier dont on connait les ascendants angevins au XVIIe siècle. Florent Lemercier Lepré, né en 1785 décide de faire construire en 1820 sa propre maison de famille.
