2019 is coming to an end. It marks our 10th anniversary as a band and another exciting year for us: the release of our album ‘Runway Markings as well as several new videos, a position in the charts, two intense tours and lots of good memories with great people. 50 years ago, John and I had the idea to do the “WAR IS OVER! (If you want it)” campaign. The experience and the memory of war was deeply imbedded in both our minds, and had become the springboard for our efforts to speak out for world peace. We did the “Bed-In for Peace”, unaware of the fact that we made our beds then, for life. Pairs of Acorns were sent to all heads of States of the world, asking them to be planted for Peace. “WAR IS OVER! (If you want it)” billboards were placed in main cities of several countries. We announced the birth of a Nutopian nation: a conceptual country anybody could join and be the ambassador of. Our white flag, and ordinary bed-sheet, symbolized a surrendering to Peace. “Give Peace A Chance” was our chant. “Imagine” was our anthem and a song of prayer. “Imagine all the people living life in peace.” This was a song asking people to imagine, to visualize, and realize our future. It was especially important that it was asking people to use the power of their own minds to make things happen. The days of one hero building a castle for all of us are over. Our world is getting too complex for that. Now we need each of us to be a hero. The human race realized its dreams and innermost desires by wishing together. Sometimes, we got sidetracked and listened to destructive powers within us. When you read the history of the last century, you wonder how we ever survived its violent events. We did. And I am sure we will. They say the darkest hour is just before the dawn. The road to Peace has been longer than John and I hoped it would be, but sitting here today as I write this, I can still see it waiting for us just over the horizon. Today, September 23, 1968, in The Beatles’ History, The Beatles were recording “Happiness Is A Warm Gun.” Studio Two, EMI Studios, Abbey Road Producer: Chris Thomas Engineer: Ken Scott One of the White Album’s highlights, ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun’, had its first recording session on this evening. The session took place from 7pm-3am. The Beatles recorded 45 takes of the song, which had the working title Happiness Is A Warm Gun In Your Hand. John played guitar and sang a guide vocal, George was on another guitar, Paul played bass, and Ringo was on drums. The song’s various changes in tempo and time signature resulting in a number of breakdowns. Music historian Ruben Molina @flacosoul, who has his own deep roots in Elysian Valley takes us on a journey through the neighborhood, also known as Frogtown, weaving in stories, and soundtracks, from a childhood spent along the Los Angeles River. Through his vivid, personal history, Molina treats us to a firsthand view of a neighborhood that has been molded by natural and manmade forces, yet like the river it borders, retains a spirit all its own. In lieu of the ridestream, we’ll be sharing audio clips plus bike safety tips from SCAG and the Metro Bike for future rides via our IG stories plus a planned future rebroadcast. This project is made possible by a mini grant through the Southern California Association of Governments’ Go Human program, funded by the CA Office of Traffic Safety. The blog days part II. The first bike I built completely for someone else was for @scottpommier. Scott is one of the best Photographers in skateboarding, and now has gone on to bigger commercial shoots as well. Building a bike for a friend is hard. We bickered like school girls, I was often an asshole, and he chewed his hummus with his mouth open. I learned a lot from Scott, you have to be patient with your customer and they have to pay you the same respect. Sometimes if I wasn’t feeling particularly creative and Scott was down here we would go and shoot photos. He was always down for a mission. Happy to still call Scott a friend. Very good condition, creased from folding with discoloration to creases, minor edgewear. Class War was an anarchist newspaper and organization started by Ian Bone in 1983, and was largely responsible for introducing Autonomist ideas to the London anarchist community. They garnered significant media and police attention for their political and confrontational actions. Class War published provocative graphics such as an image of Margaret Thatcher with an ax in her head, and enthusiastically supported striking miners, dockers, and print workers.
