Hoy nos enfrentamos con nuevos retos para su protección, especialmente en regiones como Latinoamérica, donde apenas se empiezan a dar los primeros pasos de exploración. En un esfuerzo para avanzar juntos como región, reunimos a un panel latinoamericano de especialistas en el tema, para conversar sobre los retos y las oportunidades de investigación del mar profundo en nuestros países. Hemos organizado este evento en el marco de la primera conferencia virtual de la Deep Sea Biology Society. Extendemos una cordial invitación a cualquier persona interesada en el tema, y sobre todo a jóvenes con interés en seguir una carrera para conocer y proteger mejor estos ambientes. “Purpetual Wonder” // Aaahhh what a dip just now with @ocean.annes, @hiimjoe88 and @ocean_phil! After all of @dslaterphoto’s purple striped jelly encounters, it was high time I swapped out the macro set up for some wide angle shenanigans. For whatever reason there’s been an uptick in the sightings of these Central Californian wonder-jellies—pretty much with the same timing as last year. Chrysaora colorata is just an absolutely superb, behemoth of a jelly—and goodness are their patterns striking and gorgeous! I’ve always come across destroyed ones, none ever alive and photogenic—but that just changed!! Out at the sea lions came this gelatinous friend, with mini mouth arms and even a tentacle or two—tattered from whatever battles it had endured. @hiimjoe88 and I danced about it, attempting to take turns enough for us to capture our respective moments of pelagic magic. This frame came entirely with my @lightandmotiondive video lights, and I’m really starting to see why Joe never brings a strobe ain’t anymore! I mean, with that look of sheer determination and focus, maybe he’s lighting his shots with pure willpower and homemade caramel corn...
