The proximal carpal row comprises the floor of the carpal tunnel and the transverse carpal ligament forms the roof. The contents of the carpal tunnel include nine flexor tendons and the median nerve. . x . . Some of these causes of median nerve compression include idiopathic causes, trauma (distal radius fractures, dislocations), tumors, endocrine disorders (hypothyroidism, diabetes), pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis, ganglion cysts, amyloidosis, and tenosynovitis of the flexor tendons. . x . . Symptoms include paresthesias, numbness, tingling in the median nerve distribution in the first three digits. These symptoms may be present at night and progress to symptoms during the day. God is good, I closed on my house! Thankful and grateful for my parents @_donnamariee and of course @ochocinco for all helping in different ways! The 16hr days between 2 physical therapy contracts and staying up till 2am doing client taxes, it was all worth it. But no matter the work I’ve done, this wouldn’t be possible without God saying so. Curiosity = Soft Skill... let me explain. - My favorite part of working as a therapist was the initial intake interview l because I got to ask loads of questions and was curious to learn someone’s life story. - My favorite part of qualitative research is interviewing users because I get to engage with people in inquisitive conversation. Through an interviewing exercise you get to show your genuine curiosity about your users, ultimately becoming closer to them. - We talk about how having “soft skills” in UX is extremely important, and I think _CURIOSITY_ is a soft skill of user interviewing that we should include. A good therapist is genuinely curious about the minutia of their patients’ day-to-day lives, and seeks to understand their patients’ thoughts and behaviors through thoughtful questioning. - As user researchers, we can implement this curiosity model to our own approach of interviewing users. This looks like: taking the time to ask a few “warmup” questions about their week/day, asking lots + lots of relevant follow up questions to their responses, and asking for clarification when the response was unclear. - Try to make a user interview feel like a fun conversation and be genuinely curious. You’ll get more natural responses from users, and you might find yourself enjoying the work more so in the process. Hey, its me. Your favourite fashionista. Back ever so briefly with some updates about the indigenous students school supplies drive. It runs until this Sunday, September 20th, so if youve got stuff to donate, youve still got time! Cash donations (so far) are $2215. Of that, $935.75 was used at Costco to purchase supplies. Some of the cash will be used for shipping the Ottawa collections, the rest will continue to be used for donations (along with donating to the Kugluktuk High school winter coat drive in Nunavut - check @uog_iss for more info). You folks are absolutely fantastic! Lets do better. Lets be better. *UPDATE - $450 of the donated cash has been sent to @uog_iss from all of you for their coat drive. Travel, going out in public, and trying to get a sense of what the old normal felt like brings allot of emotions these days. @brandonbeartattoos and I are both small business owners and not being able to be open to do what we love and make a living has been really hard on both of us. I know we aren’t alone in that. . . We decided to take a last minute trip to tahoe these past 3 days and I have to be honest, I feel that it helped us both to be able to come back and continue to do our best to find the positive in this new normal for us all. Yes it was weird, but going during the week and making sure we only put ourselves in situations that felt safe for us to stay healthy while taking a mental break wasn’t that hard. I miss @timeless_beauty_bar_ and will hopefully be back in there ASAP. Stay healthy and sane everyone. “You look too young to be a doctor” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As a female physician, I’ve gotten this a lot. My colleagues can likely relate as well. Most of the time I think the patient means well, perhaps trying to break the ice or lighten the mood (it can be nerve wrecking coming in with concern you may have throat cancer). Unfortunately, this comment is filled to the brim with implicit bias. As if physicians are expected to look a certain way (sorry, we can’t all be middle aged white men 🤷🏻‍♀️). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At first when I got this comment I would give a half smile and ignore it. Now I realize it’s best to address the comment and move on. “Thank you but don’t worry Mr. X, my 10+yrs of medical education make me older than I look.” Also, make a strong first impression when you walk into the exam room. Sie haben mir alles abgefordert als ich mit schwerem Herzen zu einer Traumhochzeit nach Mallorca geflogen bin während mein Mann zur Chemotherapie im Spital war, als ich wieder einmal ein Projekt verbockt hatte und nicht wusste, wie es weitergehen soll, als ich alles losgelassen habe, was ich mir aufgebaut habe um endlich das zu machen, wofür ich hier bin (zweimal). Ich habe mit Sicherheit nicht den kürzesten Weg genommen und auch nicht den einfachsten. Rückblickend frage ich mich, warum ich es mir so schwer gemacht habe. ‘Baby Gilmour/McColl’ As the restrictions lift, and my suppliers and myself are starting to run more like normal... it’s probably about time to share this little bump with everyone. Especially as I’ve surprised a few clients lately at their studio visits! Feeling very blessed for this little bundle. ❤️ There was a full plan in place for things this year, events and trade fairs I’d still be attending... but things have changed a lot in the last few months. And I’ve learnt to be more resilient and flexible as a result, and that rather than make specific plans for the rest of this year and what life looks like as a business woman/mum, that I will just be doing my best moving forward and making the plans as I go. Customs will close for a little bit of course. But I’ll be around in some way before the end of the year. The last residential school closed in 1996, I was 15 years old. Residential school survivors were stolen from their families. Their traditions, their language, their childhoods and in many cases their lives were stolen from them. The result of this cultural genocide has been a loss of language, tradition and community that continues today. My weightloss journey... People are asking me how I did it. I went plant based. I just came home from the Dominican 6 months ago and decided I didnt like meat anymore watched some movies and did some research and pretty much overnight my vegan Journey began. I have almost zero cravings and when I am craving something its usually veggie samosas LOL or chips. My whole family cannot wrap their heads around it especially cuz weve all been huge meat eaters... I used to eat red meat every second day and chicken twice a day.. I never could wrap my head around it either when people told me they were vegan it actually made zero sense to me because Ive been eating meat my whole life... Would I even be a #medfluencer if didn’t post a pic after my very first didactic session in #residency? 😂 Lawlz. ⁣ ⁣ Let’s talk about 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 in #pathology! ⁣ ⁣ ✅ Pathology is related to every field of medicine, so there is a tonnn to know. ⁣ ⁣ ✅ This makes having organized lectures super important in order to learn all of the material that’ll be on your board exams at the end of 4 years. (Remember, pathology is DOUBLE board certified.)⁣ ⁣ ✅ Every program has a didactic schedule in some form or fashion, covering various AP and CP topics throughout the year. ⁣ ⁣ ✅ As a learner, I wanted to train at a facility that had an established didactic curriculum. ⁣ ⁣ ✅ When I interviewed, I asked to see didactic schedules for each program. ⁣ ⁣ ✅ Some programs had 3 hours of didactics each DAY and others had 3 hours of didactics each WEEK. ⁣ ⁣ ✅ Some programs had free coffee, breakfast, lunch, etc during didactics, which I thought was pretty awesome. Houston Methodist and UMich ftw! (Someone remind me of other places if you know!)⁣ ⁣ ✅ Like most residency programs, residents are required to give lectures throughout the year. ⁣ ⁣ ✅ My orientation starts tomorrow, so I don’t know everything about my didactic schedule yet, but I DO know that my program has lectures M-F from 8-9am and that I’m already scheduled to give four this year (with a co-resident!)⁣ ⁣ Today’s topic was a CP Lecture over lab testing for thrombophilia. Tomorrow I start orientation. And Friday I start my first rotation in Transfusion Medicine! ⁣ ⁣ (There’s no intern year for pathology, so I get to jump right into path rotations! I knew I wanted more but didn’t feel worthy of where god was leading me , full of anxiety I jumped on a plane ✈️ with a short 3 days notice — my husband stunned that I was leaving and he didn’t even understand where or what I was doing — I just asked him to trust me — it was in that moment I took a chance on myself — I traveled cross country alone to Vegas to work on me — even though I was scared — I did it anyways 😭🙏🏻💫💞 Guess what ?! I came out on the other side stronger then ever !! As you can see today the impact this moment had on me ... but it impacted my entire life including my marriage , family and biz 😭 now we are stronger because I took that leap and started working on myself taking a leap of faith that turned into a purpose within my soul !! I get judged all the time on the fact that Im a woman, that I am hispanic, even on what I wear. Ive been called a nurse. Ive been asked if I have a green card and if English is even my first language. I may not show it...but these things get to me. Not because they anger me or hurt me. But because it saddens me to think that despite all our advances in politics, medicine and society... there still exist outdated stereotypes based on race, color and gender.. as well as sexual orientation or identification. 🌙 A Few Tips for the Feel Goods: I use these especially on days where I have lots of self doubt and anxiety❤️ 🌸 Wake Up - You are Important. 🌸 Start the day with at least one thing that makes you happy and fills your proverbial “cup”. If you need to wake up a little earlier to do that make it happen. Set a zillion alarms like I do. 🌸Give social media a break for a bit- especially first thing in the morning. The overload of information, intense feelings, etc can wait. 🌸 Write in a journal or whatever you have 5-10 things you’re grateful for. On my toughest days I didn’t write anything down but I made a mental note, at least.
