[curadoria] em casa Quando fiz minha pesquisa de mestrado publicada no livro ‘Insurgências poéticas’ [6], consegui um exemplar da antologia editada pelo Afterall, da University of the Arts de Londres, hoje esgotada: ‘Art and Social Change’ [7], organizada por Charles Esche e Will Bradley. Senti uma grande afinidade com o projeto, que documentava o engajamento social de artistas e coletivos a partir de manifestos e ensaios escritos entre 1870 e 2007. O livro trouxe textos que até hoje são essenciais para minhas pesquisas–desde a participação de Gustave Courbet na Comuna de Paris [1] aos pôsteres revolucionários do Atelier Populaire [2]; da politização dos artistas argentinos em torno da obra ‘Tucumán Arde’ [3], até as ‘Inserções em circuitos ideológicos’ de Cildo Meireles [4] e o ativismo artístico do coletivo Gran Fury sobre a crise da Aids nos EUA [5]. Dez anos mais tarde, o MASP iniciou uma parceria com o Afterall, e nem poderia imaginar que, com Esche e Bradley, eu organizaria a edição revista em português do livro, com o título ‘Arte e ativismo’, que sai em janeiro de 2021. Incluímos novos textos que expandiram o arco temporal do projeto original, com as recentes práticas latino-americanas e manifestos escritos por artistas e coletivos como Tania Bruguera, Juan Carlos Romero, Allan Sekula, Chto Delat, Etcétera e Decolonize This Place, além de ensaios Ana Longoni, Gregory Sholette, Marcelo Expósito e outros. Waiting for Her Man 30x40 A new piece headed for the C.M. Russell Museum Art in Action event. This one is a little different for me. Delivering a painting last year to a collector near Jackson Hole I happened across this sight. Immediately I pulled over the truck jumped out with the camera and commenced shooting. The clouds where putting on a display of hide and seek light requiring lots of shots. Looking out across the sage flats I was overcome with the vision of a native encampment and someone waiting. Charles Russell often worked that way and one never knows when the inspiration kicks in. Thats all it took and I had to paint it. The Museum continually adds artifacts of significance to Tennessee history, art and culture to its collection. On the Stories blog (link in bio ☝️), read about some of our newest acquisitions obtained over the summer, such as a cart that was used on the Warioto Farm in Franklin, Tennessee; a self-portrait by painter Philip Perkins; and a painting by David Wright of Abraham Bledsoe (pictured), an enslaved man who was forced to journey from Virginia to the Upper Cumberland Region during the 1780s. He carried a firearm, hunted, and joined other settlers in armed conflicts with Southeastern Indians, where his skills and bravery were acknowledged and well regarded by chroniclers of the period. Bledsoe was bi-racial, which likely permitted him to obtain a higher status than other enslaved people of his time, but he still did not enjoy the same rights and freedoms as white settlers. - @tnstatemuseum on Instagram
