To our East Nashville neighbors & artists who’ve endured massive emotional trauma or lost their homes from the tornado. Irondog 2020 was one I’ll never forget the ups and downs and everything in between. First of all I want to thank my wife and kids for always pushing me to chase my dreams. זה אני ורועי בן דוד שלי, שהוא החבר הכי טוב שלי בעולם, מבלים באיזה מועדון תת קרקעי אי שם ב-2007, לפני 13 שנה. לא הרבה אחרי הוא עבר לאוסטרליה, שם הוא גר מאז ואנחנו מנהלים שיחות טלפון ארוכות במיוחד, אחת לבין חודש לבין רבעון בממוצע, במשך כל השנים הללו. מאז שהוא עבר, התחתנתי, ילדתי ילד ודי הפכתי לבנאדם אחר לגמרי וגם הוא השתנה משמעותית דרך החוויות הפרטיות שלו והיו פרקי זמן שזה הרגיש כאילו אני מדברת עם בנאדם שכמעט זר לי אבל איכשהו תמיד מצאנו את הדרך חזרה, על בסיס חוויות הילדות המשותפות הכה רבות שלנו. כשהיינו ילדים חשבנו שאנחנו הכי מיוחדים בעולם, שני יחידי סגולה נגד העולם שתמיד היינו נוהגים להסתכל עליו מהצד עם מעטה ציניות וריחוק, כי הרגשנו אאוטסיידרים גמורים במשפחה שלנו ואף מחוצה לה. אתמול כשדיברנו בטלפון והוא סיפר לי על חלום שהיה לו בלילה שלפני, שאני הייתי בו, ונזכרתי תוך כדי בחלום חוזר שהיה לי בילדות יחד איתו, הרגשתי שזה מדהים כמה מישהו יכול להיות מושרש בך וכמה שזה בעצם משמעות החיים, שנפשך קשורה בנפשו של אדם, החוויות המשותפות, היכולת של מישהו מהצד לספר לך מי אתה, להזכיר לך מה עשית, להזכיר לך את עצמך ברגעים קשים ולדעת מתוך זה לתת לך כלים כשאתה צריך. כשאתה נמצא עם בנאדם שהוא בשבילך, אתה מרגיש ברגעים מסויימים שכמו נפתח חלון עם אור מלטף מבחוץ בזמן הליכתך במסדרון החשוך שהוא חייך. וזהו, נוסטלגיית חגים בצל סגר שכזאת. אוהבת אותך רועי ותמיד אוהב ♥️ - @mayaefratidelson on Instagram

It’s taken me a few months to really process all of this, it’s been hard, I’ve been through a lot this year; we all have. In general, pretty much most truly serious matters take me a long time to wrap my head around - anyways you would understand. . This is when I miss you the most: It’s late at night on the West Coast, I’m an hour or two out of work, trying to unwind (sometimes a little drunk, sometimes sober and straight out manic) I work different hours than most people and at this point in the day, I’m totally, utterly alone. It’s far too early for our east coast friends to be awake, and way past most of our west coast friends’ bed time. I came out here following a dream, and on some days I’d dare say I’m thriving - in no small part because of you. I was almost crying in my truck in the falling snow in the Home Depot parking lot off of the VFW parkway; crumbling under the weight of generations upon generations of immigrant ancestors who fought for our stable and safe lives in Boston. Feeling trapped in a pre-ordained existence of quiet desperation, needing so badly to break out of this cycle: You told me what I already knew - I had to roll the dice and breakout and blaze my own path. And then after six months in San Diego, when I wanted to give up and pack it in and move home, you talked me out of it just the same. Regardless of time zone lonelies and personal struggles and my own general inherent strangeness - you would always pick up the phone, always reply to my insane texts, always give credence to my weird fucking thoughts - especially when the rest of the world was asleep. I went out of my way to call one of our friends the other night, it was late where he was, and he was in crisis, and I was just leaving my job. Without you here, there was no one else to do it; that was your job. You never missed a beat, a questionable statement to the group chat would always result in an instantaneous personal follow up - I know for sure that I’m not the only one who you’ve responded to at any hour of the night. So who fills that need, our wayward captain, our patron saint of lonely feelings? It’s 3AM in my silent house. This is when I miss you the most. - @petesheakhed on Instagram

I still see us as these kids. - Really, I forget that we’re not kids anymore. - Today reality sat in a little. - I watched as they wheeled her away for surgery.. I felt that lump creeping up in my throat and had to fight back some tears. - It was a very common surgery, nothing crazy or threatening... but for a brief second I was scared because I know I’ve taken so much of our time together for granted because I do still see us as kids. I think we have all the time in the world. - I invest so much time into building a life for us and I forget that we are getting older. We’re growing up. We’re doing all the things we talked about 10 years ago. I’m just not taking the time to appreciate it. - So here’s to balance.
