I’d like you to take a moment to appreciate the beauty that are Lined Chitons (Tonicella lineata). You’ll find these benthic mollusks in the Pacific intertidal and subtidal zones from southern Alaska to southern California. Chitons have 8 valves (plates) which protect their soft underside. They slowly graze diatoms and coralline algae, when knocked off rocks they roll into a ball for protection. These guys are another small species - they only reach 5cm in length, so if you spot one you’ve got a great eye! - - #linedchiton #tonicellalineata #shellfish #mollusca #oceandiscovery #intertidal #subtidal #tidepools #alaskacoast #oregoncoast #californiacoast - @yourdailyshellfish on Instagram

You’ve seen their battered faces; here’s an inside look at the damage done from a #rubberbullet. This 23-year-old woman was struck in the face while #protesting in Atlanta, Ga. The black arrows in images A & B point to her fractured #eye socket (comminuted fracture of the left orbital floor). The rim of her eye socket took the brunt of the impact, sparing her a more severe injury to the eye. Image C shows bleeding (subhyaloid hemorrhage) at the back of the eye and a severely bruised retina. An ophthalmologist will perform surgery to repair her fractured bone. This image from Alexander C. Barnes, MD, Lauren E. Hudson, MD, PhD, and Nieraj Jain, MD, was published in the July issue of Ophthalmology. #med #medical #medicine #surgeon #aaoeye #eyes #ophthalmology #ophthalmologist #oftalmologia #oftalmologista #眼科 #офтальмология #optometry #optometrist #optometria #optician #medicalstudent #medicalschool #medschool #medicaleducation #eyedoctor #ophthalmologyresident #NoRubberBullets #NotOneMoreEye - @aaoeye on Instagram

BIOFERTILIZERS:👇🏻 Biofertilizers are bacterial manures. The beneficial micro - organisms present in the atmosphere provide the already existing nitrogen crop and render insoluble phosphorus present in the soil soluble in water to the plants. Scientific research has shown that organic manure yields 30 to 40 kg of nitrogen per hectare and increases yield by 10 to 20 per cent. Similarly, the use of phospho bacteria and mycoraiza fertilizers increases the availability of phosphorus in a field by 20 to 30 per cent. Instead of using chemical fertilizers, organic manure is used to increase productivity and increase soil fertility. Biofertiliser useful for these crops Biofertilizers are useful for all leguminous crops. Azotobacter is useful for all crops other than legume crops. Azospririllam fertilizer is especially useful for sugarcane along with all other crops other than leguminous crops. Ever heard of #RedTide? Red tide is the common name for a type of harmful algae bloom (HAB). HAB’s are caused by a combination of factors relating to temperature, nutrient availability, salinity and other factors. Human activity and nutrient pollution has been proven to increase the chances of a HAB. Red tide HABs can be detrimental to all sorts of marine organisms, and can even cause human health problems. In recent years, Florida has been especially hard hit by red tide blooms, closing beaches in 2018 and causing local economies to suffer. Research is ongoing to study the effects of red tide on marine ecosystems. For more information, check out Mote Marine Laboratory’s FAQ page on red tide: https://mote.org/news/florida-red-tide #YouthMakingRipples #RedTide #Floridaredtide #harmfulalgaebloom #HAB #nutrientpollution #marineecosystem #phytoplankton - @youthmakingripples on Instagram

Is immune testing necessary before #IVF? I frequently get this question. Sometimes more is not better and tests that are not proven to be useful may do more harm than good. Today is the #transferversary of this embryo that now is a healthy baby. After struggling at another fertility center, this couple had all kinds of expensive tests that are not necessary before IVF. My new patient was terrified that she had an immune problem that would prevent her from carrying a term pregnancy and that would affect her health. All kinds of interventions were recommended including blood thinners, steroids, intralipids. Take a step back. We knew why this couple had infertility and it had nothing to do with her immune system. She was otherwise normal and healthy. I suggested she see a medical immunologist who agreed these tests were not necessary or predictive of any underlying immune problem. I literally wrote in her chart that we are ignoring all the prior results. It would have been easy to accept them and let another doctor prescribe unnecessary medications. She might have even gotten pregnant in spite of them and thought they helped and were necessary for her future pregnancies too. Any way, on her first transfer at #columbiafertility she conceived with a natural cycle frozen embryo transfer and delivered a healthy baby. This was good lesson why we should only order tests or recommend treatments that have solid evidence to support them unless it’s part of a research trial. #ttc #ttccommunity #ivfjourney #miscarriagesucks - @ericformanmd on Instagram
